• The king having gone to the battle-field has brought the war to a victorious end (1).
• The enemies have paid the tributes which were decided to be paid by them and became his kith and kin (1-2).
• The two armies which had the greatest enmity towards each other beat the war drum, signifying their oneness. These warriors bearing the names of Naṉṉaṉ, Ēṟṟai, Atti who wore good jewels, Kaṅkaṉ, of such great valour as his enemies were afraid of coming close to him, and Puṉṟuṟai who had golden ornaments and a bow that can pierce through many aims had confederated among themselves and were ready to fight (7-9)
• Paḻayaṉ fought with them in the enemies'tents whose greatness could not be measured, for the kites to hover over the battle-field, and fell in the battle (10-11)
• Perumpūṭceṉṉi on seeing that, could not brook it and captured Kaḻumalam in addition to Kaṇaiyaṉ who had strong chariots (12-3).
• Kutavāyil which belongs to that Ceṉṉi who has a chaplet tied round his head (14),
• never ceasing income like Aḻumpil, a place in Pāṇtiya country (15),
• old paddy in abundance, dense and spreading population (16),
• deep tanks in which elephants immerse themselves for bathing. (17)
• and a green forest for defence (17)
• our talaivi is like that cool Kuṭavāyil (18)
• In order to enjoy sweet sleep lying on the breasts of our talaivi who endured the separation till our return without dying (19)
• charioteer! drive your chariot which is in front of the army, not to lag behind avoiding and giving way to chariots that have returned, and to leave the desert behind us.

NOTES

Paḻayaṉ is the commander of Cōḻaṉ's forces. Kaṇayaṉ, the commander of Ceraṉ's forces. Kaḻumalam should not confused with Cīkāḻi in Cōḻanāṭu. This is in Cēranaṭu. "குடடுவன் கழுமலத்தன்ன" (அகம்:270-9) This place is mentioned in paḻamoḻi also in stanza 62. Paḻayaṉ is mentioned in Naṟṟiṇai, 10 : 5-8, akam, 186 : 14-16, 326 : 8-12)
