Translation
- Our lady of black colour has many tiny dots
of freckles which increase in number
and shine forth in the fair complexion
of māmai (மாமை)
shining beauty, which resembles the drops of honey
in the pollen which flows gently on the tender leaves
in the cool and fragrant bunches of flowers
on which bees of soft feathers settle (13-6)
- At that pleasant season the forest appears
at its beat full of foliage and fertile flowers (9-10).
- Then at daybreak when the darkness which
had stayed on the earth clears up, the buffaloes
spread to graze in large numbers (1)
- The swarms of bees make a loud humming noise
in the branches having blossomed fire like flowers
of coral tree {{murukku}} with big buds
which were there for a long time and which
unfolded themselves (2-3)
- The clear sound of farmers (6-7)
- who drive the bullocks, choosing them (6)
- plough the fields having harvested stubbles
for the lower layer of soil to come up (6)
- by combining together in the garden
whic has clods of earth which
are pointed at the top (5)
- in the fields where the tall paddy
seedlings had been planted (4)
- spreads in every place (7)
- and the forest is beautiful
with fertile bunches of flowers
that the trees have put forth
and is pleasant to look at (8-9).
- (In this season) did she, whose shouldersl
which were glorious with natural beauty,
knowing not at all what is separation,
have lost their beauty and become weak
and lean now, because of the loneliness
caused by our separation, suffer much? (10-12)
