Translation
- Charioteer who is stronger than others
in driving the chariot! (10)
- In the cool and fragant forest
where the white-crested and short bush
of small and black bedaly emitic nut
(பிடவு) blossoms
like a chaplet (1-2),
- the eminent stag having two twisted horns
which resemble the forked stick
carried on the head of the hunter
who wears slippers (3-4)
- feeds the young female deer
which has its young ones playing by its side (6),
with the soft bunches and the red stem
of bermuda grass (அறுகம்புல்)
which has crowding leaves (5-6)
- and is keeping guard over them
where they sleep in the long sandy banks
where clear laving water is surrounding them,
with its cheeks moving when chewing the cud (7-8).
- On seeing that grand sight my mind became weak
when I thought, `I was not lucky like these to fondle my wife' (3, 9)
- Let the chariot go fast (10)
- in order to make my mind feel happy (9)
- and to make the lady with shyness to regain her glorious beauty (18).
- She holds on her forearm a green parrot
with a red neck-strip (14),
- in the precincts of the guarded house (13)
- where the swans which have pure white feathers (12)
- like the starch which is sticking on clothes
and which is washed from them
and rinsed in the ghat by the washerwoman
who has big shoulders, and fingers with which she removes it (11-2),
- play with their mates (13)
- and, says to it, `in a low tone (16),
- fearing lest it should be overheard
by other inmates in the house (16),
- teaches to talk prattling sweet words
(மழலைச் சொல்.) (17),
- "If at all you tell something
about our talaivar who parted from us,
please tell me that he will return today' (15)
