Translation
- (My mind) Having explained clearly the business
of acquiring wealth which is good as aṟam
(அறம்)
etc. are derived from it, you have made our talaivi
of glorious chastity and bright forehead
to stay at home (1-2)
- Having come so far in the difficult paths of desert,
without telling then itself that they are difficult
to be traversed by people who part from their beloved ones; (7-8)
- where the male kite of swift flight capable of seizing its prey
and capable of making a shrill sound, calls its mate of bending beak
to come to its side, and which is perched
on the very tall and solitary branch of yā
(யாமரம்)
without twigs and of straight trunk
which has no forked branch and which has dropped
all its cleft leaves, and its sweet voice
is sounding like the note iḷi (the 5th note of gamut)
(இளி.,) (3-7)
- Here you remembered the looks of her beautiful cool eyes
coated with collyrium which were not clear (8-10).
- If you thought of parting from us and returning home
to leave us to our solitude, after having crossed many hills
of paths of sharp and not pebbles which are comparable
to the sharp edge of the chisel (10-13),
- it would have been better if you had not parted from the lady
of sparkling white teeth and
waist (அல்குல்)
made beautiful by yellow spots and having big shoulders
with bending joints, resembling the small bamboos
growing in the high peaks
of kolli (கொல்லி)
which belongs to Vāṉavaṉ (வானவன்)
of victorious battles, from very ancient times (14-17) {{MS?: 14-3-17}}
- Even if you parted without knowing truly try to stand
as an obstacle in the way of the business
which we have finished upto a certain limit,
in the middle of the way, would you not become
the laughing stock of all people (18-20)?
The talaimakaṉ spoke to his mind in the middle of the desert region.
