Translation
- At this time when the rains completely fail
and as a result of that the human beings
inhabiting that region begin to die,
when the sun of dazzling heat is red as fire,
scorches all the crops in the fields to wither,
and there is a shortage in yield
and people doubt whether this is the time
for the world to depart from its side,

- (our talaivar) crossed the forest
where the eagles remove, carry the eyes
(11)
- of people who lie surrounded by rows of fat
and blood gushing from wounds

- and they resemble dead bodies
on which wreaths of red cleander
(செவ்வலரி மாலை)
are placed,
in every path which appear ugly having lost
its beauty, and who died on account
of being killed by arrows discharged
by the petty chieftains residing in small strongholds
which have stones
(7-9),
- and put them into the mouths
of their young ones which are living
in the upper forked branches of yā
(யாமரம்) trees
of very tall stature devoid of all leaves
(5-6).
- People do not complain, `The talaivar has gone,
at this time

- having crossed many mountain
which are situated in countries
where different languages are spoken,

- and which are outside the lands ruled
by all the three tamiḻ kings
who destroy their enemies in the battle
fought with bows and enjoy the tributes
obtained by that victory
and who lead a life of great valour'
