TRANSLATION
- The old and young fishermen
who were full of joy as they had joined their comrades
and standing close together with their relations
hauled in an abundant measure several kinds of fish
in their nets of small holes
to which was tied tightening big ropes
to make the ocean to lose its richness
(1-4)
- They dragged the nets in the adjoining shore
where fine sand is thick, making an uproarious noise,
(7)
- on account of the weight, by joining together
like the strong bullocks which are yoked to the carts
of salt sellers who carry salt to places inland
and who drive them into the empty vessels
of supplicants to fill them up,
as the farmers who have heaped
the paddy in the big treshing floor (would do)
(8-9)
- They divide the remainder into several portions
and sell them and sleep in the expanse
of dense sand of great bank.
Chief of that ghat! Will it spoil your greatness
(12)
- if you come one day to the cool
and fragrant foreshore garden which has mast wood trees
which put forth buds like unpolished pearls (buds)
(13-14)
- and ask us, `How is the colour of your complexion?'
and then go away?'
(14-15)
