AKAM 26
(26) marutam
- Lines 1-4. Description of the village
belonging to the chief
- (5-10). His flattery in former times
- (11-15). The talaivi's wish at present
- (16-26) talaivi accepting and embracing him
and narrating it to her companion.
Translation
- The talaivaṉ formerly said,
"Do not prevent the breasts which have black teats,
and which have the beauty of the ornamental bond
made of iron fixed to the tusks of elephants
which break open, by battering the big doors
of fortified walls, from embracing my chest
so as to completely hide into it."
(6-9)
- There were times when he flattered these
even when I said feeling pain, "you please stop this',
not agreeing to it
(9-11).
- But now when we very much wish that our breasts
which are adorned with spreading yellow spots
and which are beautiful and soft
and which droop downwards with the weight of milk
which prevented my son from wishing any other thing
should be swollen when the milk flows in the colourful chest
of the talaivaṉ adorned with fragrant sandal-paste
and be in tight embrace,
he is afraid of the milk spilling on his chest
(12-16).
- At that juncture, on noticing the loosening
of his hands which formerly would not leave
from the sung embrace I saw my son
who was slowly walking in the arms
of the foster-mother and said to him,
"you are united to your beautiful harlots;
we would be united to this beloved son"
and slowly moved near my son
(16-21)
- On seeing that
(21)
- the talaivaṉ said, "I too have attachment towards him"
and, bowing low,
(22)
- he embraced my back
(23).
- My mind became tender
(25-26)
- like the red soil in the field
which was ploughed several times
and which received copious downpour of rain
(23-25)
- and deserted me at night
(5)
- "Friend,! Is it possible for me
who has a mind which went after him
forsaking me
(26)
- to be sullenly to the chief of the village
which has beautiful fields of great fertility
(4-5)
- where the girls who indulge in games
collect for adorning during festival
the black flowers with white stalks
which resemble the white bones
of fish and which drop from the circular bunches
of thorny plant which has curved thorns
(1-3)?
The talaimakaṉ requested the companion for mediation.
Not getting mediation from her,
he entered into the house having as mediation
his own unbearableness and has union with the talaivi.
The talaimakaḷ narrated this to her companion
who entered into the house at the time of his exit.
