- Lines 1-11 paṇṇi, the commander of the forces
of Pāṇṭiyaṉ and his performance of a sacrifice

Translation
- The Commander of the army of Teṉṉavaṉ
about whose chest Lakshmi
(திரு)
is fond of and who adorns himself beautifully
with the garland of pearl that is produced in his sea,
and the āram of sandalwood
which the inhabitants of the hilly tract
(குற்வர்)
offer him after worshipping
the god who does not afflict her devotees,
residing in his mountain, which belongs to the kin
who has such valour so as to make his enemies
pay them as tribute to him

- Paṇṇi, the chieftain of Kōtai (Kōttūr),
who has sharp tipped arrows
and who always gives away freely,
not keeping any thing to himself,
untamed elephants which have been captured
in the pit, except for a brief duration of time
when they are taught and trained
to understand commands and obey them,
to supplicants
(7-11)
- Though excellent things may accrue
from the wealth that you may acquire,
as in the case of the sacrifice
performed by Paṇṇi on the battlefield
which will yield benefits

- the cold dewy days

- when northern wind which brings with it
solitude and has the true nature
of the dewy season

- blows on the white crane

- which is perched on the beautiful stem
of the tall sugar-cane
with shining beautiful flowers

- to make it to cry aloud

- and makes the moving ears of paddy
in the fields which are broad equally
on all sides which has put forth blades

in the fields and which has sprouted
from many splitted stems, to move to and fro
in the field lying on the ridges
as their beds

- If you go to a strange country
by parting from this tender-natured lady
who will be a pleasant companion
for the autumn season when the clouds rise
and go having poured down excessive rain
when the real nature of winter
is to be found in the autumn season ()
(12-14).
- Let that pass away
without the pleasure derived from union
in the bed (kept) in their proper places,
on which pure white cloths without dirt
are spread, if it is to be lost
(15-17).
- Let not any distemper befall the wealth
that you intend to acquire
(15-17).
