The lord of the maritime tract of soft land of the shore where birds are staying for long in the black, big and firm branches of the mast wood tree (புன்னை) which has a curved, old trunk and which has put forth soft-buds resembling in appearance stars in the sky (2-4),
by receiving the particles of water of the rising waves in the big expanse of the sea! (1)
If you think of parting from this lady to make her Collirium-coated eyes resembling white indian water-lily (நெய்தல்) flowers to shed tears out of suffering (5-6)
you are taking upon yourself a great and difficult task (6-7)
If the beauty of this lady is to remain with her only (7)
The beauty of this lady who is comparable to Toṇṭi which has plenty of every kind (13)
and where the fishermen having destroyed the old fishing net boat which lies on the sand dune which is dashed by the colourful waves of the sea rising on account of the eastern wind (8-10)
and have new nets (10)
distribute to many people by cutting into pieces the sharks washed by the waves and lying in the sea-shore of high sand-dunes of the sea side (பாக்கம்) from where fragrance spreads (11-12)
Chief you must take her to your place after finishing marriage (8)

புலம்ப(4)! பெரும(7)! பிரிதல் எண்ணினை ஆயின்(6) அரிது துற்றனை(7)! தொண்டி அன்ன இவள் நலன்(13) உரிதினின்(7) கொண்டு(8) ஆங்குப் பெயர்தல் வேண்டும்(8).
