Akanāṉūṟu-1 (pālai)

Translation
- The forest has the appearance of the sea-shore
(19).
- It has in it the white torn flowers
of horse radish tree (முருங்கை)
of waving branches
which has no fibre in the bark
(15-16).
- Those flowers are swept
by the violent whirlwind and scattered (everywhere)
(1).
- They make a loud noise
(17).
- They rise like the tiny particles
of water on the crest of the waves
which break (on the shore)
(18).
- That forest has got withered trees
whose shade became decreased because of the hot rays
of the sun which are like fire
and so scorching as to remove all verdure
and to form cracks in the soil
(9-11).
- The rocks are scorched and (therefore) even in the springs
which are completely dried,
the paddy that is strewn there gets fired
(11-13).
- As nobody is travelling in the place the highway robbers
remain idle in the paths of the desert
which have lost their splendour
(14-15).
- Our lover crossed such a forest
(19).
- My friend! Did he who go to earn gold jewels
and other forms of wealth from a distant country
and thereby made our big shoulders
like beautiful bamboos become lean and weak,
and forget that word, ""we won't get separated
and will be united like the whet-stone
which is made by the low whet stone maker
by mixing wax with powdered stone
(5-7),''

of Potiṉi (பொதினி)
which has elephants
that have tusks that are cut and made beautiful
