- Laughter [is] something good, alas, in itself(?)[FNote_155],
- in our noisy village with long dark palmyra palms
- by the three-watered [sea], where singing rises [and] sounds:
- an old victory[FNote_156], alas, has become new
- in a good way, seeing, while buds open [and] blossom,
- many together, so that the unripe young nectar gives fragrance,
- on the blue-water-lilies in the long water given by the ocean,
- with leaves coming into swinging in the dark backwaters abounding in flowers,
- the day the soft man from a land of loneliness came,
- with ghats, swimming the desert placed(?)[FNote_157] in the waters of darkness
- there in the depth of muddy mire with fine sand,
- going setting off, as if one had seen wind,
- through the white sand in the cold wind, as if one had seen milk,
- with the strong motion of sturdy legs, as arrows passing by,
- on the firm chariot with horses, being as if the flood had sprung up,
- in the breaking ford, while the mindful/spirited(?) charioteer directs [them],
- having fastened many layers/weapons with flower dots,
- joining the yoke [for them] to bear swarmingly(?) on the swelling necks
- of the good four with curved head[gear?] as if the ears were overflowing
- on the red millet, while going as one harmoniously(?) in a row,
- becoming full of rich cooked rice, while they hated ghee[-soaked] lumps,
- becoming big, for [their] necks with plucked hair to become rough,
- by blue head-ornaments, of a birth befitting the śāstra,
- for good work that they had here, while they were driven, enjoyed by many(?),
- so that our secret love departs(?) that abided in the seashore-grove,
- longingly, [meaning] gossip even if [we] crossed the house [and] staid with him.
