- O soft man of the seashore,
- where the hunters for various fish wear with the Ñāḻal
- blue [lotus] with pure petals that has come to bloom in the dark backwaters,
- in [their] villages with small homes in fish-reeking streets,
- [her] shoulders are emaciated.
- She, looking at the big ghat by the seashore grove,
- where the coming waves with foaming spray that stirred red prawn
- touch the bending branches of the large-trunked Puṉṉai trees,
- she is agitated, with her eyes sleepless,
- so that the old integrity gets lost in [her] body, pretty [and] dark
- as the Kaḻumalam of Kuṭṭuvaṉ with good chariot,
- the king liberal of hand, [his] horses with plucked manes,
- --- you,
- you should think of your village,
- the whole(?) night, when the little dark she-bird,
- not united with [its] male is unpleasantly exhausted,
- in the nest set close in the thorns of the tree with a god.
- Ah, I ache.
