• While the row of fish-eating green-legged herons
• grip the sky, with a mouth red as the sandal
• on the chest of long(?)[FNote_45] Murukaṉ, [and] ascends in flight,
• the many-rayed sun joins the rocks
• on the western side, daylight being gently spent.
• She, while [her] proud [and] graceful rain eyes are dimming,
• she has begun to cry, o great one, lamenting
• unendingly that [her] glorious integrity should be wasted,
• [her] little soft grace adorned with great shame. Therefore,
• the mules, [their] legs with wounds inflicted by the sharks in the backwaters,
• being weary, motion slackened in the dark backwaters by the long water,
• is it waste if [you] go,
• not going at night with your strong-bowed young [attendants],
• after having joined[FNote_46]
• our land of great backwaters with small-eared blue water-lilies,
• that place where the Aṉṟil calls
• in gardens of white sand where the palmyras are high?
