- she has begun to cry, o great one, lamenting
- unendingly that [her] glorious integrity should be wasted,
- [her] little soft grace adorned with great shame. Therefore,
- the mules, [their] legs with wounds inflicted by the sharks in the backwaters,
- being weary, motion slackened in the dark backwaters by the long water,
- is it waste if [you] go,
- not going at night with your strong-bowed young [attendants],
- after having joined[FNote_46]
- our land of great backwaters with small-eared blue water-lilies,
- that place where the Aṉṟil calls
- in gardens of white sand where the palmyras are high?
