2. miruṅkaḻi yiṭaiccura nīnti yiraviṉ
3. vantōy maṉṟa taṇkaṭaṟ cērppa
4. niṉakkeva ṉariyamō yāmē yentai
5. puṇartiraip parappakan tuḻaiit tanta 5
6. paṉmī ṉuṇaṅkaṟ paṭupu ḷōpputu
7. muṇṭakaṅ kalitta mutunī raṭaikarai

• At night, swimming the desert in the middle of dark backwaters,
• where the swordfish roams, along with the bent-legged crocodile,
• you have indeed been coming, o man from the coast of the cool sea.
• Why are we difficult [to reach] for you?
• We shall drive away the birds falling in on the drying [spread] of many fish
• brought by my father after stirring within the surface of uniting waves.
• Come at midday to the seashore grove of Puṉṉai trees,
• that drop cool fragrant fresh pollen from [their] opening golden
• [flowers] in shining clusters that glitter among the leaves [like] lightning,
• impelling [your] long chariot with horses with grouped bells,
• so that the wheels cut off the soft creepers with red lustre
• of the leafy Aṭumpu with bright many-blossomed twigs
• on the set shore of the old water where the Muṇṭakam has swollen.
