- at evening, lifting [branches] so that the Tāḻai trees droops,
- at the time when night is imminent, when the moving bees are humming,
- while the multitude of soft wings of the herons filled with fish
- join [their] nests in the dark Puṉṉai trees in heaps,
- while the blue-coloured great sea rises to sing [and] sounds,
- while the flowers close in the backwaters, at evening in the seashore grove,
- - let not the friendship he possesses subside.
- Hating to stay there, in the absence of love/pity,
- may it not come, friend,
- my heart that had gone for the chest [that gives] sweet sleep
- of the man from the ghat, where the broad-footed egrets(?)[FNote_11],
- frightened by the Taṇṇumai drum that resounds after(?)[FNote_12] the cutters
- of white rice in the fields, rest on the inner stems
- of the palmyra trees, trumpeting like horns with tight clasps.
