- O man from the ghat,
- where the fisher people, joyful when uniting with [their] companions,
- after drawing fish in groups, while the singing of the sea dies(?)[FNote_7],
- with [their] pretty nets with small eyes encircled by a long rope,
- join together, young and old, along with [their] relatives,
- crowding as the bulls drawing the chariot,
- whom the salt-carrying merchants make pass the difficult ford,
- dragging(?)[FNote_8] so that the shore firmly set with fine sand is sounding,
- throwing [pieces] so as to fill the empty pots of the beggars,
- as ploughmen brought together on the big threshing floor(?)[FNote_9],
- appointing many [pieces] of the catch(?) [and] announcing the price,
- [and] sleep in the firm sand high with peaks,
- - will [your] great word get lost? "Having come
- one day to the cool fragrant seashore grove
- of Puṉṉai trees that budded unbathed pearls,
- what [will become] of your colour", you said, "if [I] go?"
