1.mey_elām veṇnīṟu caṇṇitta mēṉiyāṉ tāḷ toḻātē
without worshipping the fest of Civaṉ who has a body completely smeared with white sacred ash.

_uyyal _ām _eṉṟu _eṇṇi,
thinking that I can save myself.
_uṟi tūkki
carrying in the hand a network of ropes in which is placed the ascetics pitcher.

I wandered.
_uḷḷam viṭṭu,
being robbed of my mind.
koy _ulā malarccōlaik kuyil kūva mayil _ālum _ārūraraik kaiyiṉāl toḻātu _oḻintu,
completely giving up worshipping with joined hands the Lord in Ārūr where in the gardens flowers are plucked and where the indian cuckoos sing and the peacocks dance.
kaṉi _irukkak kāy kavarnta kaḷvaṉēṉē!
I am a robber who stole unripe fruits when there were ripe fruits to eat; (KuRal, 100).
[[Nāvukaracar calls himself a robber as one cannot steal even unripe fruits with the consent of the owner. Having been a jain is compared to eating the unripe fruits.]]

2. _eṉpu _irutti,
having fixed bones
narampu tōl pukap peytiṭṭu,
and putting into it nerves and skin.
_eṉṉai _ōr _uruvam _ākki,
and endowing me with a body.
_iṉpu _irutti,
and placing me in happiness.
muṉpu _irunta viṉai tīrttiṭṭu,
having removed all my Karmas that were accumulated.
_eṉ _uḷḷam kōyil _ākki,
and converting my heart into a temple.
_aṉpu _irutti,
having placed me steady in love.
_aṭiyēṉaik kūḻ _āṭkoṇṭu _aruḷceyta _ārūrartam muṉpu _irukkum viti _iṉṟi,
without having the good fortune to be in the presence of the Lord in Ārūr who bestowed his grace and admitted me as his slave simply for food (periyāLvār, tiruppallāṇṭu, 3);
muyal viṭṭuk kākkaippiṉ pōṉa_āṟē!
is like giving up hunting for hares and following crows.

3. perukuvittu [A2]

having multiplied my sins listening only to the words of the low people, camaṉar before I re-embraced caivism.

_urukuvittu,
causing me to melt.
_eṉ _uḷḷattiṉ uḷ _irunta kaḷḷattait taḷḷip pōkki,
having removed and driving away the deceitful nature which was in my mind.
_arukuvittu,
having become scarce.
piṇi kāṭṭi,
causing the disease in the stomach.
_āṭkoṇṭu,
admitting me as his slave
piṇi tīrtta _ārūrartam _aruku _irukkum viti _iṉṟi,
without having the good fortune to stay by the side of the Lord in Ārūr who removed the three impurities of the soul ie; āṉavam, mayai and Kaṉmam.
_aṟam _irukka
when there was virtue to be had by even paying the price for it.
maṟam vilaikkuk koṇṭa_āṟē!
my nature is like a ignorant person who bought evils by getting them free of cost which act is to be detested.

4. kuṇṭaṉāyt
Being a strong stout person
talai paṟittu,
plucking the hairs on the head.
kuvimulaiyār nakai kāṇātu, _uḻitarvēṉaip paṇṭamāp paṭuttu,
converting me as a person of substance who was wandering without being ashamed of the derisive laughter of ladies having conical breasts.
_eṉṉaip pāl talaiyil-teḷittu,
sprinkling on my head milk to purify me.
taṉ pātam kāṭṭi,
showing his feet.
toṇṭu_elām _icai pāṭa
when all the devotees sing his praises.
tū muṟuval _aruḷceyyum _ārūraraip
paṇṭu_elām _aṟiyātē,
without esteeming when I was a camaṇar, the Lord in Ārūr who grants his holy smile on the devotees.
paṉinīrāl paravai ceyap pāvittēṉē!
I conceived of creating an ocean with cool water.

5. tuṉ nākattēṉ _āki,
Being like a cruel cobra.
turccaṉavar col kēṭṭu,
listening to the words of wicked persons.
tuvar vāykkoṇṭu
filling the mouth with the powder of gall-nut of astringent taste.
_eṉ ākat tiritantu, _īṅku _irukai _ēṟṟiṭa {V-}_uṇṭēṉ,{-V} _ēḻaiyēṉ nāṉ,
I, who am ignorant, who ate food which was given, by receving it in both the hands, and wandering without any use, unmindful of my own duties and without paying attention to anything else.

Having made me take a golden body

6. pappu _ōtip
studying works which increase the cycle of birth and death (is derived from)
pavaṇaṉāyp
having got the name of pavaṉanti
paṟittatu _oru talaiyōṭē [*tiritarvēṉai*]
with the head from which the hairs have been plucked.
_oppu _ōṭa _ōtuvittu,
having taught me spiritual wisdom that has no equal.
_eṉ _uḷḷattiṉuḷ _iruntu, _aṅku _uṟuti kāṭṭi,
showing me the appropriate good thing to do, being seated in the innermost recess of my heart.
_appōtaikku _appōtum _aṭiyavarkaṭku _ār _amutu_ām _ārūrarai _eppōtum niṉaiyātē,
without always thinking of the Lord in Ārūr who is like the rare nectar for his devotees when they think of him from time to time.
_iruṭṭu _aṟaiyil malaṭu kaṟantu _eytta_āṟē!
is like being exhausted by milking a sterile cow in a dark room.

7. kati _oṉṟum _aṟiyātē,
without knowing even a little about the higher states of existence.
kaṇ _aḻalat talai paṟittu,
plucking the hairs on the head for the eyes to burn.
kaiyil _uṇṭu,
eating the food in the hands.
pati _oṉṟu neṭuvītip palar kāṇa nakai nāṇātu _uḻitarvēṟku
to me who was wandering in the long streets in the cities, and without being ashamed of the derisive laughter, and to be seen by many people.
mati tanta _ārūril vār tēṉai vāymaṭuttup paruki
drinking the honey which flows in Ārūr which bestowed on me good sense, pouring it into my mouth.
_uyyum viti _iṉṟi,
without having the good fortune to save myself;
mati_iliyēṉ,
I who an devoid of intelligence.
viḷakku _irukka miṉmiṉit tīk kāynta_āṟē!
is just like wearing oneself to remove cold with the heat of the glow-worm when thereis a lamp; (11th book, Kōpappiracātam, 79-80)

8. pūvai_āyt talai paṟittu,
plucking the hairs on the head like a woman.
poṟi _aṟṟa camaṇ nīcar collē kēṭṭu,
accepting only the words of the low camaṇar who have no wisdom.
kāvi cēr kaṇ maṭavārk kaṇṭu _ōṭik
running on seeing the ladies whose eyes resemble the blue nelumbo-flowers.
katavu _aṭaikkum kaḷvaṉēṉ taṉ _āviyaip pōkāmē tavirttu,
preventing the life without leaving the body of mine who is a robber and who closes the door, ashamed of seeing those ladies.
_eṉṉai _āṭkoṇṭa _ārūraraip pāviyēṉ _aṟiyātē,
without esteeming the Lord in Ārūr who admitted as a protege me who am a sinner.
pāḻ_ūril payikkam pukku _eytta_āṟē!
is like feeling exhausted after entering into a deserted village to beg alms.

9. _oṭṭāta vāḷ _avuṇar purammūṉṟum _ōr _ampiṉvāyiṉ vīḻak kaṭṭāṉai,
Civaṉ who weeded out all the three cities of the inimical and cruel acurar by the pointed end of an arrow to fall down as dust.
kāmaṉaiyum kālaṉaiyum kaṇṇiṉoṭu kāliṉ vīḻa _aṭṭāṉai,
who killed Kāmaṉ by his frontal eye and Kalaṉ (the god of death) by his leg.
_ārūril _ammāṉai,
God, our father in Ārūr.
_ārvac ceṟṟak kurōtam taṭṭāṉai,
who is unaffected by desire, anger and rancour. (God who is above all the six inner enemies of the soul)
tavam _irukka _avam ceytu tarukkiṉēṉ [*ē*]!
I was puffed with pride by doing wasteful acts when there was penance to be undertaken

10. maṟuttāṉ _or val_arakkaṉ _īr _aintu muṭiyiṉoṭu tōḷum tāḷum _iṟuttāṉai,
Civaṉ who crushed the ten heads and shoulders and feet of the strong arakkaṉ who refused to listen to the advice of Nanti

_eḻil muḷarittaviciṉ micai _iruntāṉ taṉ talaiyil _oṉṟai _aṟuttāṉai,
who cut one of the heads of Piramaṉ who is sitting on the seat of a beautiful lotus.
_ārūril _ammāṉai,
our father in Ārūr.
_ālālam _uṇṭu kaṇṭam kaṟuttāṉai, karutātē,
without regarding Civaṉ who has a black neck by consuming the poison named ālālan.
karumpu _irukka _irumpu kaṭittu _eytta_āṟē!
this act is like feeling exhausted by biting the hard iron rod when there is sweet sugarcane to be enjoyed.
