கரையும் கடலும் மலையும் காலையும் மாலையும் எல்லாம் உரையில் விரவி வருவான்
Civaṉ is united in all places like the land, sea, and mountain, and in my speech at all times such as morning and evening.
ஒருவன்
the unequalled god.
உருத்திரலோகன்
has as his abode Uruttiralōkam.
வரையின் மடமகள் கேள்வன்
is the husband of the young daughter of the mountain.
வானவர் தானவர்க்கு எல்லாம் அரையன் இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
Ārūr is the abode where the King of all celestials and acurar, dwells permanently.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர்
will he admit us two into his grace! please ask his will about it.

தனியன் என்று எள்கி அறியேன்
I did not slight Civaṉ about his being lonely without father mother and other relations.

தன்னைப் பெரிதும் உகப்பன்
I like him very much contrary to that.
முனிபவர் தம்மை முனிவன்
I hate people who hate him.
முகம் பல பேசி மொழியேன்
I won't talk words which are sweet on their surface, but not sweet from the bottom of the heart.
இனியன் இருப்பதும் கனிகள் பலவுடைச் சோலைக் (1) காய்க்குலை ஈன்ற கமுகின் ஆரூர்
the abode of the god who is sweet to me is ārūr which has many araca-palms which have putforth clusters of fruits in the gardens which have many kinds of fruits.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ கேளீர்

சொல்லின்குலா அன்றிச் சொல்லேன்
If I talk about anything I do not talk about anything else except my greatness.
தொடர்ந்தவர்க்கும் துணை அல்லேன்
I am not of any help even to my relations, not to speak of others.
கல்லின் வலிய மனத்தேன்
I have a heart which is harder than the stone.
கற்றபெரும் புலவாணர் அல்லல் பெரிதும் அறுப்பான்
Civaṉ who completely removes the sufferings of great learned people who live by their knowledge.
அருமறை ஆறு அங்கம் ஓதும் எல்லை இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
ārūr is the place where Civaṉ the meaning of all the abstruse vētams and six aṅkams lead.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர்

(1) நெறியும் அறிவும் செறிவும் நீதியும் நான் மிகப்பொல்லேன்
I am bad in the path I follow in my knowledge, in my relationship with others and in the right moral conduct.
மிறையும் தறியும் உகப்பன்
I am desirous of inflicting suffering on others and separating friends.
வேண்டிற்றுச் செய்து திரிவேன்
I wander doing things according to my whom.
பிறையும் அரவும் புனலும் பிறங்கிய செஞ்சடைவைத்த இறைவன் இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
ārūr is the place where the Lord who bare on his shining red caṭai a crescent a cobra and water resides.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர்

நீதியில் ஒன்றும் வழுவேன்
I wont swerve even a little from moral conduct.
(1) நிட்கண்டகம் செய்து வாழ்வேன்
I shall live affording people freedom from trouble.
வேதியர் தம்மை வெகுளேன்
I will not be angry with people well-versed in vētams (It applies to members of other castes also who follow the path laid down in the vētams).
வெகுண்டவர்க்கும் துணையாகேன்
I won't be a party even to those who are angry with them.
சோதியில் சோதி; எம் ஆனை
Civaṉ who is the brilliance in the light, he is like an elephant to us.
சுண்ணவெண்ணீறு அணிந்திட்ட ஆதி இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
ārūr is the place where the cause of all things; who smeared himself with the fins powder of white sacred ash resides.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர்

அருத்தம் பெரிதும் உகப்பன்
I would value wealth more than anything else.
(1) அலவலையேன்
I do things that come to my mind without considering the consequence;

அலவலை வந்து அப்பூச்சி காட்டுகின்றான்;
சிசுபாலன் தன்னை அலவலை மைதவிர்த்த அழகன் (periyāḻvār tirumoḻi; 2-1-2; 4-3-5)]]
அலவலையேன்
I have no senses of shame,
[[அல்லவை செய்யும் அலவலையும் (tirukaṭukam, 100)]]
அலந்தார்கள் ஒருத்தர்க்கு (உம்) உதவியேன் அல்லேன்
I did not give any help even to a single individual among people who are in want.
உற்றவர்க்கும் துணை அல்லேன்
I am not a help mate even to my relations.
பொருத்தமேல் ஒன்றும் இலாதேன்
as this is my nature I do not possess any pleasing qualities.
புற்று எடுத்திட்டு இடம் கொண்ட அருத்தன் இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
ārūr is the place where our wealth, Civaṉ who created an ant-hill and had it as his abode.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர்

சந்தம்பல அறுக்கில்லேன்
I cannot compose verses containing vaṇṇam

சார்ந்தவர் தம்மடிச் சாரேன்
I will not approach the feet of devotees who have approached god.
முந்திப் பொரு விடைஏறி
riding on a fighting bull which gives battle first.
மூவுலகும் திரிவானே
though he will wander in all the three worlds

கந்தம் கமழ் கொன்றை மாலைக்கண்ணியன் விண்ணவர் ஏத்தும் எந்தை இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
though he is like that, ārūr is the place where our father whom the celestials praise and who wears a chaplet and garland of koṉṟai flowers which spread their fragrance, dwells.

மெய்ப்பொருள் அன்றி உணரேன்
I will not think about things untrue except the truth.
மிண்டர்க்கு மிண்டு அலால் பேசேன்
I will not speak sweet words to rude people, except harsh words.
நெண்டிக் கொண்டேயும் (1) கலாய்ப்பன்
though limping in arguments I shall get angry and kick up a row with people.

நமர் பிறர் என்பது அறியேன்
I do not make any difference between our people and others.
நான் கண்டதே கண்டு வாழ்வேன்
I shall despise what others say being adamant in my opinion about what is the truth.
தமரம் பெரிதும் உகப்பன்
I shall like noise very much.
தக்க ஆறு ஒன்றும் இலாதேன்
I do not have even a single right way of conduct.
குமரன் திருமால் பிரமன் கூடிய தேவர் வணங்கும் அமரன் இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
ārūr is the place where the god who is bowed by Kumaraṉ, tirumāl and Piramaṉ in the company of other celestials resides.

ஆசைபல அறுக்கில்லேன்
I am incapable of rooting out many desires.
ஆரையும் அன்றி (1) உரைப்பன்
as anger is born out of unfulfilled desire, I talk angrily to all people.
பேசின் சழக்கு அலால் பேசேன்
if at all I speak, I speak wicked words, which are contrary to good manners.
ஓசைபெரிதும் (2) உகப்பன்
I desire an empty fame very much.
மனம் தன்னால் பிழைப்பு உடையேன்
I commit mistakes intentionally.
ஒலிகடல் நஞ்சு அமுது உண்ட ஈசன் இருப்பதும் ஆரூர்
ārūr is the place of the Lord of the Universe who consumed poison that rose in the roaring sea, as if it were nectar.
அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர்

திருமருவும் திரள் தோளன்
one who has globular shoulders on which the goddess of victory dwells.
மந்தம் முழவம் இயம்பும் வளவயல் நாவல் ஆரூரன்
ārūraṉ, a native of the village, naval which has fertile fields and where the muḻavu is played in a low pitch.
எந்தை இருப்பதும் ஆரூர், அவர் எம்மையும் ஆள்வரோ? கேளீர் என்று சிந்தைசெயும் திறம் வல்லான்
being capable of questioning the devotees, ārūr is the place where our father dwells; will he admit us too as his protage?
சந்தம் இசையொடும் வல்லார் (தாம்)
these who are able to sing the musical songs with the appropriate music, composed by him.
புகழ் எய்துவர் (தாம், ஏ)
will attain fame.
