[[When Cuntarar went South after visiting Chidambaram he came near Cīkāḻi. As it was the birth-place of Ñāṉacampantar, he was afraid of treading on the sacred ground and therefore he worshipped God from the outskirts of that place. God gave darshaṉ to him. This was composed at that time]]


{7:58}__1+
{$} கடல் கொள மிதந்த கழுமலவளநகர்
In the fertile city of Kaḻumalam which floated above when the ocean envelopped the whole earth.
சாதலும் பிறத்தலும் தவிர்த்து
Having removed death at the end of this life and rebirth after this life.
எனை வகுத்து
and having created me as a new soul.
தன் அருள்தந்த எம் தலைவனை
our master who bestowed on me his grace.
மலையின் மாதினை மதித்து அங்கு ஒர்பால் கொண்ட மணியை
the ruby that had on its part a lady, daughter of the mountain, honouring her.
வருபுனல் சடையிடை வைத்த எம்மானை
our Lord who kept on his matted hairs the water (of Kaṅkai) discarded from heaven.
ஏதில் என் மனத்துக்கு ஓர் இரும்பு உண்ட நீரை
one who is like the water that is absorbed by a red-hot iron, to my mind which is alien to god, and who has merged within me without being alien to me.
எண்வகை ஒருவனை
the peerless god who has eight forms
[[eight forms: five elements, sun and moon, and the one who performs sacrifices]]
எங்கள்பிரானை
our benefactor (master)
காதில் வெண்குழையனை
and one who wears a white ear-ring made of conch
கண்டுகொண்டேன்
I saw him clearly as he was seated majestically in Kayilai;
[[Therefore I am not wanting in anything]]

{$} மற்று ஒருதுணை இனிமறுமைக்கும் காணேன்
I do not see any other help now for the next birth also.
வருந்தலுற்றேன்
I suffered.
மறவா வரம் பெற்றேன்
I got the boon from god not to forget him.
சுற்றியசுற்றமும் துணையென்று கருதேன்
I would not consider the relations that surrounded me, as helpful.
துணையென்று நான் தொழப்பட்ட ஒண்கடரை
the effulgent light which was worthy of my worship, thinking him only as my help.
முத்தியும் ஞானமும் வானவர் அறியா முறைமுறை பல நெறிகளும் காட்டி
showing me eternal bliss, spiritual wisdom and step by step very many paths which could not be known even by the celestials.
கற்பனை கற்பித்த கடவுளை
and the god who taught me knowledge of himself.
அடியேன்
I, who am his devotee,
கழுமல வளநகர்க் கண்டு கொண்டேன்
saw him in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam as I would see him in Kayilai.
(I would not seek a help not only for this birth but also for the next birth)

{$} திருத்தினை நகர் உறை சேந்தன் அப்பன்
the father of Cētaṉ (Murukaṉ), who dwells in Tirut Tiṉainakar;

செய்வினை யறுத்திடும் செம்பொனை
one who is as valuable as gold and cuts at the root of all my previous karmas.
அம்பொன் ஒருத்தனை அல்லது
except the pearless one who has a form as brilliant as gold.
இங்கு ஆரையும் உணரேன்
I will not think of any one else as god in this world.
உய்யும் காரணம் தன்னால் உணர்வுபெற்றேன
As I had reasons to be saved I got clear discernment.
விருத்தனைப் பாலனை
the god who is both an old man and a young man. (He existed before everything else came into existence; so he is an old man; He survives after everything is destroyed; so he is a young man)
கனவிடை விரவி
Having seen him near me in my dream.
விழித்து எங்கும் காணமாட்டாது விட்டிருந்தேன்
I was separated from him unable to see him anywhere, having woken up from sleep.
கருத்தனை
one who is in my mind.
நிருத்தம் செய் காலனை
and one who dances lifting his left leg.
சேலைக்கழுமலவள நகர்க்கண்டு கொண்டேன்
I saw him in the fertile of city of Kaḻumalam which is proximate to the sea, as I would see him in Kayilai (Therefore I am without the separation)

{$} கழைக்கரும்பும் கதலிப்பலசோலைக் கழுமல வளநகர்
in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam which has many gardens of sugar-cane and plantains.
மழைக்கு அரும்பும் மலர்க்கொன்றையினானை
the god who wears flowers of koṉṟai which puts forth buds in the rainy season.
வளைக்கல் உற்றேன் மறவாமனம் பெற்றேன்
I bound him so as not go away from me as I had a mind which thinks about him without forgetting.
பிழைத்து ஒருகால் இனிப் போய்ப் பிறவாமைப் பெருமை பெற்றேன்
I had the greatness of not being born again, never erring from this state, at any time.
பெற்றது ஆர் பெறுகிற்பார்
is anyone else capable of attaining that grace which I got?
குழைக்கருங் கண்டனைக் கண்டு கொள்வானே பாடுகின்றேன்
I sing his praise in order to see that god with a black neck, wearing an ear-ring.
சென்று கூடவும் வல்லேன்
I am capable of being united with him after my journey in this world is over.
கண்டுகொண்டேன்
I saw him as he would be seated majestically in Kayilai; (therefore I have nothing to want)

{$} குண்டலம் திகழ் காதனே என்றும்
uttering the names, one who wears on the ear a shining ear-ring!
கொடு மழுவாட்படைக் குழகனே என்றும்
and a young man holding a cruel battle-axe.
வண்டு அலம்பும் மலர்க் கொன்றையன் என்றும்
and one who wears koṉṟai flowers on which bees are humming.
வாய் வெருவித் தொழுதேன்
I worshipped him in my sleep prating these names incoherently.
விதியாலே பண்டை நம் பல மணமும் களைந்து ஒன்றாய்
having concentrated my mind which usually goes in many ways as of old as it is its usual nature.
பலநாளும் பசுபதி பதி வினவி
and questioning people about the shrines where pacupati, Civaṉ dwells. (பசுபதி the master of all living beings) for many days, in the hope of seeing him in any of the shrines.
கண்டல் அம் கழிக்கரை ஓதம் வந்து உலவும் கழுமலவள நகர்க்கண்டு கொண்டேன்
I saw him in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam where the waves of the sea move about near back-water which has mangrove trees, as he could be seated majestically in Kayilai (Therefore I have no wants to be fulfilled)

{$} பெருவல்வினைவரும் என்று எண்ணி இருந்து வருந்தலுற்றேன்
I suffered in mind sitting helplessly thinking Big and irresistible Karmas will reach me and afflict me and so I fixed him in my mind without forgetting him even for a moment.
விதியால்
according to the injunctions in sacred works.
விரும்பி என் மனத்திடை மெய் குளிர்ப்பு எய்தி வேண்டி (1) நின்றே தொழுதேன்
I worshipped him intentionally my hairs on my body standing on end, and desiring him in my mind.
பெருஞ்செந்நெல் நெருங்கிய கழனிக் கழுமலவளநகர்
in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam which has fields where the big red paddy crop grows densely.
அரும்பினை, அலரினை, அமுதிணை, தேனை, ஐயனை, அறவன் (ஐ) என் பிறவி வேர் அறுக்கும் கரும்பினைக் கண்டுகொண்டேன்
I saw the god who gives me pleasure like buds, flowers, nectar and the juice of sugar-cane, who is the master of all, who is the embodiment of aṟam, and who cuts at the root of my birth, as I would see him sitting majestically in Kayilai

{$} புயலினைத்திருவினை
(to reach) God who is like the cloud and wealth.
பொன்னினது ஒளியை, மின்னினது உருவை
and who is as brilliant as the lustre of gold and the brightness of lightning.
என்னிடைப்பொருளை
and the riches that are with me.
அயலவர் பரவவும்
when those who are at a distance adore him.
அடியவர் தொழவும்
and when his devotees are worshipping him.
அன்பர்கள் சாயலுள் அடையலுற்றிருந்தேன்
I took shelter under the protection of his devotees.
(1) முயல்பவர் பின் சென்று
following those who wish to reach god.
முயல்வலை யானை படும் என (2) மொழிந்தவர் வழி முழுது எண்ணி
pondering over the sayings of those who said, An elephant can be caught in a net spread for catching a hare, and was firmly catching hold of that idea, (I was pretending like his devotees assuming their guise).
கயல் இனம் சேலொடுவயல் விளையாடும் கழுமலவளநகர்க் கண்டு கொண்டேன்
but due to the result of some good act done in previous births I saw him as he would be seated majestically in Kayilai, in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam where the group of carp and carnatic carp play together in the fields. (Therefore all my wishes were fulfilled).

{$} நினைதரு பாவங்கள் நாசங்களாக
wishing the sins which are abstract things to be destroyed.
நினைத்து முன்தொழுது எழப்பட்ட ஒண்சுடரை
the effulgent light which was worshipping by me with joined hands and with intention.
மனைதருமலைமகள் கணவனை
the husband of the daughter of the mountain desiring her as his consort.
வானோர் மாமணி மாணிக்கத்தை
God who is as precious as the precious stone of ruby to the celestials, which is worn on the head.
மறைப்பொருளை
the meaning of the maṟai (vētam)
புனைதரு புகழினை
the fame that is praised beautifully.
எங்களது ஒளியை
our light.
இருவரும் ஒருவன் என்று உணர்வு அரியவனை
and the one who could not be found out as a pearless person by both Māl and Piramaṉ.
கனைதரு கருங்கடல் ஓதம்வந்து உலவும் கழுமல வளநகர்க் கண்டுகொண்டேன்
I saw such a god in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam where the waves of the black and roaring sea come and move about, as I would see him seated majestically in Kayilai.

{$} மறையிடத் துணிந்தவர் மனையிடை இருப்ப
Fully knowing that those who have determined that the performance of Karmam prescribed in vētam, do not leave attachments and remain as house-holders.
வஞ்சனைசெய்தவர் (1) பொய் கையுள் மாய
and the falsehood of the deceitful people like camaṇar and buddhists perish quickly (It is evident to actual vision) that being the case.
துறையுறக்குளித்து உளதாக வைத்து உய்த்த உண்மை எனும் தகவின்மையை ஓரேன்
without paying serious attention to the unworthiness of the so-called truth which they showed to the world, being themselves sunk in mire but pretending to have bathed in a ghat of clear water.
பிறையுடைச்சடையனை எங்கள் பிரான்
our Lord, one who has a crescent on his matted hairs.
பேரருளாளனை
one who has boundless grace.
கார் இருள் போன்ற கறைஅணிமிடறுடை அடிகளை
and the deity who has a neck which is adorned with black poison and is like the thick darkness
அடியேன்
I who am his devotee.
கழுமலவள நகர்க் கண்டு கொண்டேன்
saw in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam as I would see him seated majestically in Kayilai. (The meaning of the first two lines is obscure. Perhaps the words hint about the miracle cuntarar performed in aviṉāci, where he brought back to life a brahmin boy devoured by a crocodile)

{$} கெழுமலர்க் கொன்றையும் கூவிள மலரும் விரவிய சடைமுடி அடிகளை நினைந்திட்டு
thinking of the Lord who wears on his matted hairs coiled like a crown, fertile koṉṟai flowers and leaves of bael.
அழுமலர்க்கண் இணை அடியவர்க்கு அல்லால்
except for those devotees who shed tears out of joy from their eyes.
அவன் திருவடிஇணை அறிவுஅரிது
it is difficult to know his two holy feet.
இரண்டும் கழுமல வளநகர்க்கண்டு கொண்டு
having a vision of those two feet in the fertile city of Kaḻumalam.
ஊரன், சடையன் தன் காதலன் பாடிய பத்தும்
with all the ten verses which were sung by the son of cataiyaṉ, ārūraṉ.
தொழுமலர் எடுத்தகை அடியவர்தம்மைத் துன்பமும் இடும்பையும் சூழ்கிலா
physical sufferings and mental afflictions will not come near the devotees who hold in their hands flowers for worship.
