{$} கற்றவர் தொழுது ஏத்தும் சீர்க்கறையூரில் பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி நற்றவா
God who is the form of severe penance and who dwells at Pāṇṭikkotumuṭi in famous Kaṟaiyūr which is worshipped and praised by learned people!
பற்று மற்று எனக்கு இன்றி
as there is no other support for me.
நின் திருப்பாதமே மனம் பாவித்தேன்
I meditated upon your holy feet only.
பெற்றலும்
as I did so.
பிறந்தேன்
I enjoyed the good fortune of being born as a human being.
இனிவந்து பிறவாத தன்மை எய்தினேன்
I got the state of not-being born again in this world.
உனை நான் (1) மறக்கினும்
even if I may forget you.
நா நமச்சிவாயவே சொல்லும்
my tongue will be uttering your name, ``namaccivāya'' without ceasing.

{$} கிளர் புனல் காவிரி வட்ட வாசிகை கொண்டு அடி தொழுது ஏத்து பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி நட்டவா
my friend in Pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi which the river Kāviri of rising water worship and praises bringing with it a garland circular in shape!
(1) இட்டன்
I, who was desired by you.
(1) உம்அடி ஏத்துவார் இகழ்ந்திட்ட நாள்
those days when I was despised by devotees who praise your feet, as a fickleminded person.
மறந்திட்ட நாள்
and those days when I forgot you which were the cause for their despising me.
கெட்டநாள் என்று அலால் கருதேன்
I would consider those days as wasted days only, I would not think otherwise,
உனை நான் மறக்கினும் நமச்சிவாயவே நா சொல்லும்

{$} பரஞ்சோதி
supreme being as the light divine!
புனல்காவிரி பாவு தண்புனல் வந்து இழி பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி நாவலா
the great orator who is in Pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi where the cool floods of the Kāviri with water spreads coming to that place!
ஓவும் நாள்
the days when I did not think of you.
உணர்வு அழியும் நாள், உயிர்போகும் நாள், உயர் பாடைமேல் காவும் நாள் இவை என்று அலால் கருதேன்
I would not consider otherwise the days when I lost consciousness, when life leaves my body and I am carried on a funeral bier which is carried high, except as wasted.
உனை நான் மறக்கினும் நாநமச்சிவாயவே சொல்லும்

{$} எல்லை இல்புகழ் எம்பிரான்
our master whose fame is limitless!
எந்தை தம்பிரான்
the master of my father!
என்பொன், என் மாமணி
who is like my gold! who is like the big gem in my possession.
கல்லை உந்தி
pushing out stones
[[கல் may also mean precious stones]]
வளம்பொழிந்து
pouring abundantly wealth everywhere.
இழிகாவிரிஅதன் கரைவாய்
on the bank of the flowing Kāviri.
நல்லவர் தொழுது ஏத்தும் சீர்க் கறையூரில் பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி வல்லவா
God of ability who dwells at pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi in Kāṟaiyūr which good people worship with joined hands and praise!
நான் மறக்கினும் நா ... சொல்லும்

{$} பஞ்சின் மெல்அடிப் பாவைமார் குடைந்து ஆடு பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி நஞ்சு அணிகண்ட
Civaṉ who has a neck made beautiful by poison and who is in pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi where the ladies who are as beautiful as a portrait and whose feet are painted with red-cotton dye plunge and bathe!
அஞ்சினார்க்கு அரண்ஆதி என்று
with the thought that you afford protection to those who are afraid of the cycle of birth and death, and seek refuge in you.
அடியேன் நானும் மிக அஞ்சினேன்
I too who is your slave was very much afraid of that, and sought refuge in you
அஞ்சல் என்று அடித்தொண்டனேற்கு அருள் நல்கினாய்க்கு அழிகின்றது என்
you granted your grace to me who is your slave saying Do not fear. What do you lose by that?
நான் மறக்கினும் நா ... சொல்லும்

{$} கொல்புலித் தோலின்மேல் ஆடு பாம்பு (அது) அரைக்கு அசைத்த அழகனே
beautiful god who tied on the waist a dancing cobra on the skin of the tiger which is capable of killing!
பரஞ்சோதி
the supreme being as the light divine!
அம்தண் காவிரிப்பாடு தண்புனல் வந்து இழி பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடிச்சேடனே
the great god who is in pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi where the cool water comes and flows into the beautiful and cool Kāviri!
[[சேடன்: when all things are destroyed Civaṉ only remains, surviving all of them is another meaning]]
ஏடுவான் இளந்திங்கள் சூடினை
you wore a crescent that shines in the sky which resembles the petal of a flower.
பின்என்
what is there after that to praise about your affording protection to those who surrender to you
[[The moon sought the protection of Civaṉ when he lost all phases except one on account of Takkaṉ's curse; Civaṉ wore it on his head and granted it the life of waxing and waning]]

{$} குரும்பை மென்முலைக் கோதைமார் குடைந்து ஆடு, நெருங்கி வண்பொழில் சூழ்ந்து எழில்பெற நின்ற காவிரிக் கோட்டிடைப் பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி விரும்பனே
God who is liked by all and who dwells in pāṇṭikkotumuṭi on the bank of the Kāviri where the fertile gardens are close to one another and beautifully situated, and where the young girls who are like soft garlands and have breasts like immature cocoanuts dive and bathe!
விரும்பிநின் மலர்ப்பாதமே நினைந்தேன்
I meditated upon your feet only cherishing them with love.
வினைகளும் விண்டன
all my acts got separated from me.
உனைநான் மறக்கினும் ... சொல்லம்

{$} செம்பொன் நேர் சடையாய்
Civaṉ who has a caṭai like superior gold!
திரிபுரம் தீ எழச்சிலை கோலினாய்
who bent the bow for the fire to rise in the three cities!
வம்பு உலாம் குழலானைப் பாகம் அமர்ந்து
having placed with desire a lady from whose tresses of hair fragrance spreads.
காவிரிக் கோட்டிடை, கொம்பின் மேல் குயில் (1) கூவ மாமயில் ஆடு பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி நம்பனே
Civaṉ fit to be desired who is in pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi on the bank of the Kāviri, where on the branches of trees the great peacocks dance when the indian cuckoo cries!
உனை நான் மறக்கினும் ... சொல்லும்

{$} நாரணன் பிரமன் தொழும் கறையூரில் பாண்டிக்கொடு முடிக்காரணா
Civaṉ, the cause of all things, who is at the temple pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi in Kaṟaiyur, and who is worshipped by nāraṇaṉ and Piramaṉ!
எணாயிரகோடி தேவர்
countless tēvar.
சாரணன்
one who is the shelter for all things!
தந்தை
father!
எம்பிரான்
our master!
எந்தை தம்பிரான்
the master of my father!
என்பொன்
my gold!
மாமணி
big gem!
என்று
praising like this
பேர் பிதற்றி நின்று பிரிகலார்
prating these names, are incapable of leaving you.
நான் உனைமறக்கினும் ... சொல்லும்

{$} கோணிய பிறைசூடியை
on Civaṉ who wore a curved crescent
கறையூரில் பாண்டிக்கொடுமுடி பேணிய பெருமான்
the god who desired pāṇṭikkoṭumuṭi in Kaṟaiyūr
பிஞ்ஞகப் பித்தனை
pittaṉ who is the destroyer of all things.
பிறப்பு இல்லியை
one who is not born;
[[cf.பிறவா யாக்கைப் பெரியோன் கோயிலும் (cilappatikāram, 5-169)]]
பண் உலாவரிவண்டு அறை கொன்றைத்தாரனை
who wears garlands of koṉṟai on which the bees with lines move to and fro with humming music.
படப்பாம்பு அரைநாணனை
and who has a waist cord of a cobra which has a hood.
தொண்டன் ஊரன் சொல் இவை சொல்லுவார்க்கு (1) இல்லைத் துன்பம் (ஏ)
those who are able to recite these words of the devotee, Nampi Ārūraṉ, will not have sufferings
