{$} தம்மானை அறியாத சாதியார் உளரே
is there any one who by nature does not know his chief?
(there is none)
கறை கொண்ட கண்டத்து அம்மான் தன் அடிக்கொண்டு என் முடிமேல் வைத்திடும் என்னும் ஆசையால் வாழ்கின்ற அறிவிலா நாயேன் நான்
I who am as low as a dog, and who am without intelligence, desiring that the god who has a black neck will place his feet on my head.
சடைமேற்கொள் பிறையானை
Civaṉ who wears a crescent on the caṭai.
விடைமேற்கொள்விகிர்தன்(ஐ)
who rides on a bull and who is different from the world.
கைம்மாவின் உரியானை
who has a skin of an elephant of long trunk.
கரிகாட்டில் ஆடல் உடையானை
who dances in the scorched cremation ground.
விடையானை
who has a flag of a bull.
எம்மானை
who is my Lord.
எறிகெடிலவீரட்டானத்து உறைவானை இறைபோதும் இகழ்வக் போல்
perhaps I was negligent for a moment about the Lord who dwells in Vīraṭṭam on the north bank of Keṭilam which throws waves, when he came to place his feet on my head, without knowing its greatness; Alas! what a pity my ignorance was so great! perhaps it would not happen at any time here after.

{$} முன்னே எம்பெருமானை மறந்து என்சொல் மறவாது ஒழிந்து என்கொல்
what did I lose before he admitted me as his protege by forgetting him? what did I gain by always remembering him?
மறவாத சிந்தையால் வாழ்வேன்
I live without forgetting him in my mind after he admitted me as his protege.
பொன்னே, நல்மணியே, வெண்முத்தே, செம்பவளக்குன்றமே ஈசன் என்று (1) உன்னையே புகழ்வேன்
I shall praise you only thinking about you, as gold' flawless gem, white pearl, hill made of red coral and the Lord of the universe.
அன்னே என் அத்தா' என்று அமரரால் அமரப்படுவானை
who is desired by the immortals as our mother, our father,
அதிகை மாநகருள் வாழ்பவனை
who dwells in the big city of Atikai.
எறிகெடில வீரட்டானத்து என் உறைவானை இறைபோதும் யான் இகழ்வன்போல்
I was perhaps negligent about my Lord who dwells in Vīraṭṭāṉam on the north bank of the Keṭilam which throws waves, for a moment, when he came to place his feet on my head, Alas! what a pity my ignorance was so great. It would not occur at any time hereafter.

{$} காதல் சேர் மாதராள் கங்கையாள் நங்கைவரும் புனலும் சடைக்கு அணிந்து வளராத பிறையும் வரி அரவும் உடன்துயில (1) வைத்தருளும் எந்தை
my father who adorned his caṭai with the Kaṅkai, a lady of distinction who came in the form of water, when there was already a loving lady on one half of the body, was gracious enough to cause to sleep together a crescent which does not wax, a cobra with lines on it.
இரும்புனல் வந்து எறி கெடில வீரட்டானத்து உறைவானை
and the Lord who dwells in the Vīraṭṭāṉam on the northern bank of Keṭilam which dashes its floods on the banks.
விண்ணவர்தம் பெருமானே
the Lord of the celestials!
மன்னவர் நின்று ஏத்தும் கரும்பே, என் கட்டி என்று உள்ளத்தால் உள்கி
thinking of him in my mind as the sweet sugar-cane, which is praised without ceasing by the people of this world, my sweet jaggery'.
விரும்பினேற்கு
to me who desired him.
எனது உள்ளம் (1) விடகிலா விதியே
as my fate did not leave my mind.
இறைபோதும் இகழ்வன்போல் யான் (ஏ)

{$} நால்தானத்து ஒருவனை
the unequalled god who is superior to the three gods, Piramaṉ, Māl and Urattiraṉ.

நான் ஆயபரனை
the supreme being who is united with me without separate identity.
நள்ளாற்று நம்பியை, வெள்ளாற்று விதியை
the perfect soul in Naḷḷāṟu, the righteous conduct in Veḷḷāṟu.
காற்றானை, தீயானை, கடலானை, மலையின் தலையானை
who is himself the air, the fire, the ocean, who dwells on the peak of the mountain, Kayilāyam.
கடுங்கலுழிக் கங்கை நீர் வெள்ள ஆற்றானை
who contained on his head the puddle of swift river of flood of Kaṅkai.

Civaṉ who has the beautiful colour and affection of the daughter of the mountain who is the mother of Murukaṉ.
அதிகை மாநகருள் வாழ்பவனை
who dwells in the great temple of Atikai.
கூந்தல் தாழ்புனல் மங்கை குயில் அன்ன மொழியாள் சடையில்
having rejoiced when he received in the catai Kaṅkai who is in the form of water, who has tresses of hair hanging low and words as sweet as the voice of the indian cuckoo.
கயல் இனங்கள் குதிகொள்ளக் குலாவி
shining when the groups of carp fish jump.
வாய்ந்த நீர் வர
when the floods swell in it.
உந்தி மராமரங்கள் வணக்கி
bending the catampa tree by the rising waves.
மலை ஆரம்வாரி
taking in a sweep sandal wood trees growing in the mountain.
மறிகடலை இடம் கொள்வான்
to occupy the ocean where waves roll up and down.
ஏந்து நீர் எறி கெடில வீரட்டானத்து உறைவானை இறைபோதும் இகழ்வன்போல் யானே

the great ascetic who adorned himself with the tusk of a strong hog.
வானோர் தம்மானை
the chief of the celestials.
தன்மதியும் பாம்பும் தடுமாறும் சடையானை
who has on his catai a cool crescent and a cobra which are tossed about as they are afraid of each other.
தாழ்வரைக் கை வென்ற (1) வெம்மான மதகரியின் உரியானை
who has the skin of an elephant of must, cruel and proud, which has victory to its credit and lives in the slopes of the mountain.
வேதவிதியானை
who is the right conduct mentioned in the Vētams.
வெண்ணீறு சண்ணித்தமேனி எம்மானை
our master who smears his body with white sacred ash;

{$} வெய்து ஆய வினைக் கடலில் தடுமாறும் உயிர்க்குமிக இரங்கி அருள் புரிந்து வீடுபேறு ஆக்கம் பெய்தானை
Civaṉ who granted the gain of eternal bliss taking much pity on the souls which are perplexed being caught in the cruel acts which are like an ocean, bestowing his grace on them.
பிஞ்ஞகனை
who is the destroyer of all things.
மைஞ்ஞவிலும் கண்டத்து எண்தோள் எம்பெருமானை
who is our god who has eight shoulders and a neck like the cloud.
பெண்பாகம் ஒருபால் செய்தானை
who made one half of his body the half of a lady.
செக்கர்வான் ஒளியானை
who has the colour of the red sky.
தீவாய் அரவு ஆடு சடையானை
who has a caṭai in which the cobra with a cruel mouth dances spreading its hood.
திரிபுரங்கள் வேவ எய்தானை
who discharged an arrow to burn the three cities.
எறிகெடில வடவீரட்டானத்து உறைவானை இறைபோதும், இகழ்வன்போல் யானே
I was perhaps negligent about the Lord who dwells in Vīraṭṭāṉam on the northern bank of the river Keṭilam which throws waves on the banks, for a small moment, when he came to adorn my head with his feet; what a pity my ignorance was so great! This will not happen again hereafter.

பொடிஆடு திருமேனி நெடுமாறன் முடிமேல் குடபாலின் வடபாலின் குணபால் சேராத சிந்தையான்
Civaṉ who is in the southern country and stood placing his feet on Netumāṟaṉ who did not think of conquering countries in the west; north and east and annexing them to his own;

{$} திருந்தாதவாள் அவுணர் புரம் மூன்றும் வேவச்சிலை வளைவித்து ஒருகணையால்தொழில் பூண்டசிவனை
Civaṉ who took upon himself the act of fighting, and destroying all the three cities of the inimical and cruel avuṇar to burn by bending the bow and discharging a single arrow.
கருந்தாள (1) மதகளிற்றின் உரியானை
who has a skin of a elephant of must and big legs.
பெரியகண் மூன்றும் உடையானை
who has famous three eyes.
கருதாத அரக்கன் (2) பெருந்தோள்கள் நால் ஐந்தும் ஈர்ஐந்தும் ஈர்ஐந்து முடியும் உடையானைப் (3) பேய் உருவம் ஊன்றும் உற மலைமேல் இருந்தானை
who sat on the mountain without leaving it, and who pressed down the form of the arakkaṉ which was dreadful, like that of the pēy and who had twenty big shoulders and ten heads and who did not consider as a sin to uproot the mountain.
