நமக்கு அடிகள் ஆகிய அடிகள் (ஏ)
the god who is God to us.
பாறு தாங்கிய காடரோ
Does he live in the cremation ground which supports kites?
படுதலையரோ
Does he hold in his hand a dead skull?
மலைப்பாவை ஓர்கூறு தாங்கிய குழகரோ
is he the youth who carries as one half the beautiful daughter of the mountain?
குழைக் காதரோ
does he wear on one ear a men's ear-ring?
குறங்கோட்டு இள ஏறு தாங்கிய கொடியரோ
has he a flag on which is drawn a young bull with short horns?
சுடுபொடியரோ
does he smear the sacred ash well burnt?
விளங்கும்பிறை, ஆறு தாங்கிய சடையரோ
does he bear on his head a shining crescent and a river?

{$} நுமக்கு இசையுமா நினைத்து ஏத்துவீர்
devotees who praise Civaṉ according to your ability, thinking of him!
இட்டிதாக வந்து உரைமின் (ஓ)
come near me and tell me.
நமக்கு அடிகள் ஆகிய அடிகள் (ஏ):

கட்டி வாழ்வது நாகமோ
is it a cobra that your master ties on the neck, hands and waist?
சடைமேலும் நானு கரந்தையோ
is it indian globe thistle that he has on his caṭai also?
பட்டி ஏறு உகந்து ஏறரோ
does he ride with joy on a bull that is straying
[[பட்டி ஏறு may also mean a bull that is tethered in the cattle-shed.]]
படு வெண்தலையில் பலி கொண்டு வந்து அட்டி ஆளவும் கிற்பரோ
has he the strength to serve the alms that he receives in the dead white skull and to admit us into his grace?

{$} நமக்கு இசையுமா நினைந்து ஏத்துவீர்
see 2nd verse.
ஒன்றி நீர்கன் இட்டிதாக வந்து உரைமின் (ஓ)
you come with a single mind and tell me coming near:

குன்றி போல்வது ஓர் உருவரோ
has (he) the colour of the red seed of the crab's eye?
[[The red portion of the crab's eye is the point of similarity.]]

குறிப்பாக நீறு கொண்டு அணிவரோ
does he smear sacred ash with an aim?
இன்றியே இலர் ஆவரோ
does he beg without having anything to fall back upon?
அன்றி, உடையர் ஆய இலர் ஆவரோ
or otherwise, does he beg having everything as his?
அன்றியே, மிக (1) அறவரோ
or does he take upon himself renunciation?

தேனை ஆடும் முக்கண்ணரோ
does Civaṉ of three eyes bathe in honey?
மிகச் செய்யரோ
is he very red in colour?
வெள்ளை நீற்றரோ
does he smear on his body white sacred ash?
பால்நெய் ஆடலும் பயில்வரோ
does he bathe often in milk and ghee?
தமைப் பற்றினார்கட்கு நல்லரோ
is he a good companion to those who have him as their support?
மானை மேவிய கண்ணினாள் மலைமங்கை நங்கையை அஞ்ச ஓர்ஆனை ஈர்உரி போர்ப்பரோ
does he cover himself with the skin of an elephant wet with blood, the frighten the lady of distinction, the daughter of the mountain in whose looks are like those of the deer?

கோணல் மாமதி சூடரோ
does he wear a great and curved crescent;
[[கோணிய பிறை சூடியை (cuntarar, pāṇṭikkoṭu muṭi, 10)]]
கொடுகொட்டி (1) கால் ஓர் கழலரோ
does he perform the dance, Koṭukoṭṭi? does he wear on one leg an ornament, Kaḻal?

does he ride on a bull ? is he the origin of the vētams?
நாண் (அது) ஆக ஒர் நாகம் கொண்டு அரைக்கு ஆர்ப்பரோ
Does he tie round his waist as a waist-cord a cobra!
நலம் ஆர்தர ஆணையாக நம் அடிகளோ
will he admit us into his grace to fill us with good things?

வல்லவா நினைந்து ஏத்துவீர்
Devotees who praise Civaṉ according to your ability, meditating on him!
மூடனேனுக்கு வந்து சொல்லுமின்
please come and tell me, the ignorant.

வந்த சாயினை அறிவரோ
will he know the weariness that comes to us;

தம்மை வாழ்த்தினார்கட்கு நல்லரோ
does he do good to those who sing songs of benediction?
புந்தியால் உரை கொள்வரோ
does he not accept words spoken with intention?
அன்றிப் பொய்இல் மெய் உரைத்து ஆள்வரோ
if not, will he admit us as his protege, by speaking truth unadultarated with falsehood?
அன்றியே, மிக(1) அறவரோ
if he is not that, is he the embodiment of all virtues?

நமரங்காள்
devotees who are our relations
வல்லவா நினைந்து ஏத்துவீர்
and capable of praising the Lord with utmost meditation on him!
மெய் என்
what is the truth you have understood about him?
மூடனேனுக்குச் சொல்லுமின்

கையில் சூலம் (அது) உடையரோ
does he hold a trident in his hand?
கரிகாடரோ
does he live in the scorched cremation ground?
கறைக்கண்டரோ
Hes he a black neck?
வெய்ய பாம்பு அரை ஆர்ப்பரோ
does he tie a cruel cobra round his waist?
விடை ஏறரோ
does he ride on a bull?
கடைதோறும் சென்று ஐயம் கொள்ளும் அவ்வடிகளோ
is he such a god without attachment and does he receive alms going to every entrance of houses?

{$} நமக்கு அடிகள் ஆகிய அடிகள் (ஏ):

நீடு வாழ்பதி உடையரோ
has he the world always as his abode, where he dwells without any change?
அயன், நெடியமாலுக்கும் நெடியரோ
is he greater than Ayaṉ and the tall Māl?
பாடுவாரையும் உடையரோ
does he have people who sing his praises and who are protected by him?
தமைப் பற்றினார்கட்கு நல்லரோ
does he do good to those who hold him as their support?
காடுதான் அரங்காகவே கைகள் எட்டினோடு இலயம் பட ஆடுவார் எனப்படுவரோ
is he spoken eminently as one who dances to the measure of time, making suggestions by his eight hands, and dances, having the cremation ground as his stage?
[[நீடுவாழ்பதி is the civalōkam, the world of bliss.]]

{$} நமக்கு அடிகள் ஆகிய அடிகள் (ஏ):
see 1st verse.
(1) குமணமாமலைக் குன்றுபோல் நின்று
standing as the hills by the side of the big mountain and issuing foul smell
தங்கள் கூறை ஒன்று இன்றியே
without the slightest dress (being naked)
ஞமணம், ஞாஞணம், ஞாண ஞோணம் என்று ஓதி
uttering the words ñamaṇam, ñāñaṇam, ñāṇam and ñōṇam,
[[These are the mantirams chanted by amaṇar.]]
யாரையும் நாண் இலர்
without feeling shame the slightest in the presence of any one.
நமணநந்தியும்
Namaṇananti,
கருமவீரனும்
Karumavīraṉ,
தருமசேனனும் என்ற இவர் அமணரால் பழிப்பு உடையரோ
is our Lord the object of contempt by such amaṇar as Tarumacēṉaṉ also?

devotees!
பணிந்து ஏத்தினேன்
I praised you, submitting my homage.
படிசெய் நீர்மையில்
imitating the actions of sincere devotees.
வடியிலான்
I having no perfection.
திருநாவலூரன்
a native of tirunāvalūr.
வனப்பகை அப்பன்
the father of vaṉappakai.
வன் தொண்டன்
with the title of vaṉtoṇtaṉ.
செடியன் ஆகிலும்
although I may be a sinner.
தீயன் ஆகிலும்
and a wicked person.

தம்மையே மனம் சிந்திக்கும் அடியன் ஊரனை ஆள்வரோ
will he admit ārūraṉ who is his slave and always meditates on him only?
