[[A short note on the shrine:
This shrine was on the North bank of Koḷḷitam river, at a place called Karaimēṭu [NOTE: Kaṭalūr TK, as per 1930]; prior to the Mēṭṭūr dam, the floods in Koḷḷitam completely damaged the temple; one Paḻaṉiappa Mudaliar who belonged to the paṭukai mutaliyār family built a temple to the South of nelvāyil and established the Lord and tēvi and other deities. This is three miles to the South-East of Citamparam]]

{$} முடிமேல் மாமதியும் அரவும் துயிலும் வடிவே தாமுடையார் மகிழும் கழிப்பாலை
in Kalippālai in which the Lord who has a form on the top of which the great crescent and serpent sleep together, resides gladly.
செடியேன்
I who have committed sins.
தீவினையில் தடுமாறக் கண்டாலும்
even though he sees me tottering in the midst of evil actions.
அடியேன் ஆவ எனாது ஒழிதல் தகவு ஆமே
is it just to leave me, without showing pity, he is our protege, alas?

{$} உன் அடியேன் எங்கேனும் இருந்து உனை நினைந்தால்
If, I, your protege, think of you wherever I may be.
அங்கேவந்து என்னொடும் உடன் ஆகிநின்று அருளி
Having come there and being with me.
இங்கே என் வினையை அறுத்திட்டு எனை ஆளூம் கங்கா நாயகனே
the husband of Kaṅkā (Civaṉ) who accepts me as his protege, having destroyed my actions, in this birth itself!

கழிப்பாலை மேயானே
one who is in Kaḻippālai!

{$} அடியேன் பிழைத்தனகள் நின்அருளில் ஒறுத்தாய்
you punished me for the wrongs that I, your humble servant, committed, by your grace
[[கள்: is a superfluous plural suffix]]
[[PP_X: கற்றனங்கள் யாமும் உடன் கற்பனகள் எல்லாம்

நாயினேனைப் பொருட்படுத்து எத்தனையும் பொறுத்தாய்
you have forgiven me all my wrongs esteeming me who is as mean as a dog.
வேலைவிடம் மறியா மல்உண்டு செறுத்தாய்
you stationed the poison produced by the ocean, by swallowing it in order that the tevars might not die, minimising its severity

கண்டம் கறுத்தாய்
on account of that you made your neck black in colour.
கழிப்பாலைமேயானே

{$} கரும்பு ஆரும் கழனிக் கழிப்பாலை மேயானே
one who is in Kaḻippālai where in the fields sugar-cane grows densely!
சுரும்பு ஆர் விண்டமலர் அவை தூவி
Having strewn blossomed flowers on which bees hum
[[அவை: has no separate meaning from மலர்; hence it is called in grammar pakutipporuḷ vikuti.]]
தூங்கு கண்ணீர் அரும்பா நிற்கும் மனத்து அடியாரொடும் அன்புசெய்வான்
I shall do devotion to you along with your humble servants who have a loving mind which is the cause for suspected tears to flow in drops.
என் மனத்தால் உன்னை அல்லால் ஒருதெய்வம் விரும்பேன்
I have no desire in my mind to worship any other deity except you.

{$} கழிப்பால் கண்டல் தங்க
the fragrant screw pines grow inthe back waters.
[[Variant reading: கண்டடங்கு: கண்டல் தங்க is a better reading]]
கழி ஏந்து மா மறுகின்கழிப்பாலைமருவும் கனல் ஏந்துகையானே
one who is in Kaḻippalai where eddies are found on the surface of water! one who is holding fire on the hand!
என் வினையை ஒழிப்பாய்
you will rid me of all actions.
உகப்பாய்
Having accepted me as your belonging you would feel glad.
முனிந்தருளி
Being angry with me (at times)
தெழிப்பாய்
you will rebuke me loudly with harsh words.
விலை ஆவணம் உடையாய்
you have every right on me like an absolute saledeed. (There is nobody to order you that you should do this or do that)

{$} ஆடு அரவை அரை ஆர்புலி அதள்மேல் ஆர்த்தாய்
you tied above the tiger's skin worn round the waist, a dancing serpent spreading its hood.
யானையின் தோல் உரிவை புலால் நாறப் போர்த்தாய்
you covered your form with the flayed skin of an elephant the strench of flesh to spread from that.
பழி இல்கழிப்பாலை தொண்டு செய்வார் வினைகள் அவை போகக் காத்தாய் பார்த்தானுக்கு இடம் ஆம்
the famous Kaḻippālai is the place for the Lord who bestowed his kind looks on his devotees having protected them, their acts (both good and bad) to go away from them.
[[காத்தாய் is used in the sense of an adverbial participle.]]

{$} இமையோர்கள் இடர் கடியும் கருத்தா
the author of driving away the suffering of tevar who do not wink.
தண்கழனிக்கழிப்பாலை மேயானே
one who is in Kaḻippālai of cool fields!
முப்புரமும் எரித்தாய்
you burnt all the three cities.
பருத்தாள் வன் பகட்டைப் படமாக முன்பற்றி அதள் யானையின் தோல் உரித்தாய்
catching hold of a strong elephant of big legs you flayed its skin wishing to cover your form with it, as a blanket.
[[In the second line யானை stands in the sense of a pronoun, as பகடு has been used in the first line.]]
உலகம் தொழும் உத்தமனே
greatest person who is worshipped by the world!

{$} கடற்சாரும் கழனிக் கழிப்பாலை மேயானே
one who is in Kaḻippālai having fields situated near the sea!
ஞாலம் எல்லாம் படைத்தாய்
you created all the worlds!
படர் புன்சடை எம் பரமா
our superior Lord who has golden matted locks of hair spreading in all directions.
வேள்விதனை உடைத்தாய்
you devastated the sacrifice (of takkaṉ)
உமையாளை ஓர் கூறு உடையாய்
you have Umayāl as a half (of your form)
வல் அரக்கன் தலை பத்தொடு தோள் நெரிய அடர்த்தாய்
you pressed down (with your leg) to crush the (twenty) shoulders along with the ten heads of the strong arakkaṉ (Irāvaṇaṉ)

{$} பொய்யா நாவதனால் புகழ்வார்கள் மனத்தினுள்ளே
in the minds of people who praise him with their tongues which do not utter falsehood.
மெய்யே நின்று எரியும் விளக்கே ஒத்ததேவர்பிரான்
is the chief among tēvars, who is like the light that burns permanently without extinguishing.
செய்யானும் கரிய நிறத்தானும் தெரிவரியான்
He could not be understood by the red-coloured one (Piramaṉ) and the black-coloured one (tirumal)
கழிப்பாலை மையார் கண்ணியொடும் மகிழ்வான்
He is gladly residing in Kaḻippālai with a lady on whose eyes collyrium is coated permanently.

{$} பழிசேர்இல் புகழான்
the Lord with a fame without any blot attached to it.

பரமேட்டி
one who is in the highest place.
கழிஆர் செல்வம் மல்கும் கழிப்பாலை மேயானை
on the Lord who is in Kaḻippālai where the wealth got from the back-water is increasing.
தொழுவான் நாவலர் கோன் ஆரூரன் உரைத்த தமிழ்மாலை வழுவா வல்லார் வானோர் உலகு ஆள்பவரே
those who are capable of reciting without mistakes the garland of verses sung by ārūnaṉ, the chief of the inhabitants of nāvalūr, who worships the Lord, will definitely rule over heaven.
