நொந்தா ஒண்சுடரே
Civaṉ who is like the lamp which is burning brightly without trimming! (perpetual lamp)
எந்தைபிரான்
the master of my father.
திருமேற்றளி உறையும் எந்தாய்
my father who dwells in Tiru Mēṟṟaḷi.
நுனையே நினைந்திருந்தேன் மனமே புகுந்து நின்ற சிந்தாய்
the object of meditation which entered into my mind which was always thinking of you only.
வந்தாய் போய் அறியாய்
having entered into my mind you do not know to leave it.
உன்னை அல்லால் இனி ஏத்த மாட்டேன்
definitely I will not praise any one else here after.

சேட்டு ஆர் மாளிகை சூழ் திருமேற்றளி உறையும் மாட்டே
my wealth that dwells in tirumēṟṟaḷi surrounded by great mansions!

ஆள்தான் பட்டமையால்
having become your slave.
அடியார்க்குத் தொண்டு பட்டு
doing service to your devotees.
கேட்டேன் கேட்பது எல்லாம்
I received all that I request you to grant me.
(1) பிறவாவகை கேட்டு ஒழிந்தேன்
I stopped with asking from you the means for not being born again.
உன்னை அல்லால் மகிழ்ந்து ஏத்த மாட்டேனே
definitely I will not praise with joy any one else except you.

சேறு ஆர் தண் கழனித் திருமேற்றளி உறையும் ஏறே
Civaṉ who is like the lion and dwells in Tirumeṟṟaḷi surrounded by cool fields full of mire!
மோறாந்து ஓர் ஒருகால் நினையாதிருந்தாலும்
though I may not think of you at some times out of laziness.
[[மோறாந்து may also mean being like a savage.]]
வேறாவந்து என் உள்ளம் புகவல்ல மெய்ப்பொருளே
the real thing that is capable of entering into my mind by some other way
உன்னை அல்லால் இனி ஏத்தமாட்டேனே
.... definitely I will not haire anyone hereafter.

திருமேற்றளியுறையும் பற்றே
the support which dwells in tirumēṟṟaḷi!
உற்றார் சுற்றம் என்னும்(ம்) அதுவிட்டு நுன் அடைந்தேன்
I approached you renouncing near relatives and distant relatives
[[உற்றார் denotes wife and children who are near relatives.]]
எற்றால் என்குறை
is there any want for my by anything?
என் இடரைத் துறந்து ஒழிந்தேன்
I definitely renounced my sufferings.
மும்மதிலும் செற்றாய்
you destroyed all the three forts.
(1) நுன்னை அல்லால் பணிந்து ஏத்தமாட்டேனே
definitely I will not praise any one else except you, bowing before them.

மெய்ம்மால் ஆயின தீர்த்து அருள்செய்யும் மெய்ப்பொருளே
the real thing that grants its grace removing the confusion born out of this body.
கனம் மேற்றளி உறையும் பெம்மான்
the god who dwells in the eminent mēṟṟaḷi!
கைம்மா ஈர் உரியாய்
you who wears a skin wet with blood flayed from an elephant!
(1) எம்மான் எம்மானை என்றவர் இட்டு இறந்து ஒழிந்தார்
those who are my father and my mother are dead and gone, leaving me to shift for myself.
உன்னை அல்லால் பெரிது ஏத்த மாட்டேனே
definitely I will not praise any other god except you thinking him to be great.

உன் அடியே நினைந்தேன்
I meditated on your feet only.
நினைதலுமே
as soon as I did so.
ஊண் ஏர் இவ்வுடலம் புகுந்தாய்
you entered into this body of mine which is made of flesh.
உன்னை அல்லால் குளிர்ந்து ஏத்த மாட்டேனே
definitely I will not praise any other god except you to the gratification of my mind.

செய்யார் பைங்கமலத் திருமேற்றளி உறையும் ஐயா
the master who dwells in tirumēṟṟali which has fertile lotuses growing in the fields!

my god, Civaṉ!
கை ஆர் வெஞ்சிலை நாண் அதன்மேல் சரம் கோத்தேமும் மதிலும் எரியுண்ணச் சரம்கோத்தாய்
you fixed arrow on the bow-string of the cruel bow held in the hand and discharged it for the fire to consume all the three forts.
உன்னை அல்லால் அறிந்து ஏத்த மாட்டேனே
definitely I will not praise any other god except you, knowing your greatness and their inferiority;

திரையார் தண் கழனித் திருமேற்றளியுறையும் அரையா
the King in tirumēṟṟaḷi which has cool fields which have water with waves.
இனி உன்னை அல்லால் உடலில் உயிர் உள்ளளவும் நரவதனால் உரையேன்
I will not speak about others as gods, as long as life exists in my body, now with my tongue.
உன்னை அல்லால் அறிந்து ஏத்தமாட்டேன்
definitely I will not praise any other god except you esteeming him superior to you.

சிலை ஆர் மாமதில் சூழ் திருமேற்றளியுறையும் மலையே
Civaṉ who is the mountain who dwells in tirumēṟṟali surrounded by big walls of fortifications built with granite stones.
நிலையா நின் அடியே நினைந்தேன்
I meditated on your feet only steadfastly.
நினைத்தலுமே
as I did so.
நின்நினையப் பணித்தாய்
you ordered me to think of you only without wavering.
சலம் ஒழிந்தேன்
I had my sufferings removed.
உன்னை அல்லால் மகிழ்ந்து ஏத்த மாட்டேனே
definitely I will not praise any other god except you; with joy.

பார் ஊர் பல்லவன் ஊர் மதில்காஞ்சி மாநகர்வாய்
in the big city of Kāñci which is the capital of the pallavaṉ whose away extends over the whole world.
சீர்ஊரும் புறவின் திருமேற்றளிச் சிவனை
on Civaṉ who dwells in tirumēṟṟali which has forest tracts whose renown has spread everywhere.
ஆரூரன்(ன்) அடியான் அடித்தொண்டன் ஆரூரன் சொன்ன சீர் ஊர் பாடல் வல்லார் சிவலோகம் சேர்வாரே
those who are able to sing the songs which have measure of time composed by ārūraṉ who venders service in the sanctum of Civaṉ and who is the slave of the god in ārūr.
