தனக்கே தலையும் என் நாவும் நெஞ்சமும் வைத்தனன்
I set apart my head, tongue and my heart to Civaṉ only to the exclusion of other gods.
வஞ்சம் ஒன்று இன்றித் தனக்கே திருவடிக்கு அடிமை உய்த்தனன்
I have directed my service to his holy feet to the exclusion of other gods, without any deception.
உரைத்தக்கால் உவமனே ஒக்கும்
If I myself say this it will amount to falsehood.
பைத்த பாம்பு ஆர்த்து
tying a cobra with a spread-out hood.
ஓர்கோவணத்தோடு
wearing only a loin-cloth.
பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து எம்பரமர்
our superior god who is in Paccilāccirāmam.
பித்தரே ஒத்து
resembling almost a mad man.
ஓர்நச்சுஇலராகி
though he does not take the slightest pity on me.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லை
there is no other master who will protect me except him; what can I do?

அன்னையே என்னேன்
I did not think of my mother as my companion.
அத்தனே என்னேன்
I did not think of my father as my companion.
அடிகளே அமையும் என்று இருந்தேன்
I thought that my God was enough for me.
என்னையும் ஒருவன் உளன் என்று கருதி இறை இறை திருவருள் (1) காட்டார்
he will not show me his grace little by little in the midst of his thoughts about his devotees thinking of me that there is also one like me.
அன்னம் ஆம் பொய்கை சூழ்தரு பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து உறை அடிகள்
the god who dwells with pāccilāccirāmam surrounded by natural tanke where swans live in large numbers.
பின்னையே அடியார்க்கு அருள் செய்வதாகில்
if he grants his grace only after death and does not do so in this birth itself.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லை (ஓ)
there is no other master to protect me except him in this birth; what can I do?

உற்றபோது அல்லால் உறுதியை உணரேன்
except when I am beset with dificulties I do not know what is good for me.
உள்ளமே அமையும் என்றிருந்தேன்
I was thinking that my mind would suffice for me.
செற்றவர் புரம் மூன்றும் எரிஎழச் செற்ற செஞ்சடை நஞ்சு அடை கண்டர்
Civaṉ of red caṭai in whose neck there is poison and who destroyed the three cities of enemies to be consumed by fire.
அற்றவர்க்கு அருள்செய் பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து அடிகள்தாம்
the god in pāccilāccirāmam who grants his grace to those who have given up all attachments.
யாது சொன்னாலும்
though I may beg saying all that I can say.
பெற்றபோது உகந்து
pitying me when he feels happy.
பெறாவிடில் இகழில்
and though he does not pity me when he does not feel happy.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
there is no other master who protect me except him; what can I do?

நெஞ்சே
my mind!
பொன் வினைகழனிப் புள்ளினம் சிலம்பும் ஆம் பொய்கைப் பாச்சிலாச் சிராமத்து அடிகள் என்ற இவர் (தாம்)
Civaṉ in pāccilāccirāmam which has fields in which gold can be produced and has natural tanks in which flocks of birds are making noise.
நமர் பிறர் என்று நாச்சிலபேசி
saying about some that these are our people and about some others that they strangers.
நன்று தீது என்கிலர்
does not praise what others say as good nor despise as bad.
மற்று ஓர்பூச்சு இலை
and moreover does not flatter people.
பலரையும் ஆட்கொள்வர்
he will admit as his servants people of all sorts.
பரிந்து ஓர்பேச்சு இலர்
thereafter he does not speak any kind word having love towards them.
ஒன்றைத்தரவு இலராகில்
though he does not give anything to me (தரவு giving)
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
there is no other master who can protect me$$l what can I do.

வரிந்த வெஞ்சிலையால் அந்தரத்து எயிலைவாட்டியவகையினரேனும்
though Civaṉ destroyed the forts that wandered in the sky with a cruel bow of many bands, and is hand-hearted.
புரிந்த அந்நாளே புகழ் (1) தக்க அடிமைபோகும் நாள் வீழும் நாள் ஆகிப் பரிந்தவர்க்கு அருள் செய் பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து அடிகள் (தாம்)
the god in paccilāccirāmam who grants his grace to those who cherish with love him, thinking that those days when one performs service to god are praiseworthy and those days when one does not perform service to god are wasted days.
யாது சொனாலும்
(in my case) whatever I may say (it will not reach his ear)
பிரிந்து இறைப்போதில் (2) பேர்வதே ஆகில்
though he has the nature of leaving me in the twinking of the eye.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
there is no other master to protection except him; what can I do?

தீவினை செற்றிடும் என்று செடித்தவம் செய்வார் சென்றுழிச் செல்லேன்
I won't go to the place where people who perform sinful penance live, fearing the blemish that will come to me by committing mistakes.
அடித்தவம் அல்லால் ஆரையும் அறியேன்
I do not know service to anyone except service to his feet which is equal to penance.
எம் அடிகள் ஆவதும் அறிவர்
our god knows well my nature being such.
படைத்தலைச் சூலம் பற்றியகையர்
he holds in his hand a trident, prominent among weapons.
பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து எம் பரமர்
Our supreme God in pāccilāccirāmam.
பிடித்த வெண்ணீறு (1)பூசுவது ஆனால்
though his nature is besmearing himself with the pasts of sacred white ash mixed with water.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
there is no other master to protect me except him what can I do?

கையதுகபாலம்
a skull is in the hand.
காடு உறை வாழ்க்கை
Civaṉ lives in the cremation ground.
கட்டங்கம் ஏந்தியகையர்
he holds a battle-axe in his hand.
மெய்யது புரிநூல்
on the chest there is a sacred thread of there strands.
மிளிரும் புன்சடைமேல் வெண்திங்கள் சூடிய விகிர்தர்
one who is different from this world and wears on his shining golden caṭai a white crescent.
பைஅரவு அல்குல் பாவையர் ஆடும் பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து எம் பரமர்
our supreme god in pāccilāccirāmam where beautiful ladies who have waists comparable to the hood of cobras, perform dance.
மெய்யரே ஒத்து
appearing like a truthful person.
ஓர் பொய் செய்வது ஆகில்
if he commits false acts.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
There is no other master to protect me except him; what can I do?

நிணம்படும் உடலை நிலைமை என்று ஓரேன்
without thinking that this body which has fat, would be permanent.
நெஞ்சம் தஞ்சமே என்றிருந்தேன்
I decided that my mind belonged to god by right.
கங்குலும் பகலும் கணம் படிந்து ஏத்தி
mixing myself with the crowd of devotees night and day pressing him.
கருத்தினால் கைதொழுது எழுவேன்
I worship him intentionally with joined hands; this being so.
பணம் படும் அரவம் பற்றிய கையர், பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து எம்பரமர்
our supreme god in pāccilāccirāmam who holds in his hand a cobra having a hood.
பிணம் படுகாட்டில் ஆடுவது ஆகில்
if he dances in the cremation ground having corpses.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
There is no other master to protect me except him; what can I do?

நெஞ்சே
my mind!
குழைத்து உவந்து ஓடிக் கூடுதி, நாள்தொறும் குற்றேவல் செய்வான்
you reach god daily, your heart having melted running with joy to perform menial service to him
[[குழைந்து has become குழைத்து becoming hard in sound, as a soft consonant]]
இழைத்த நாள் கடவார் அன்பிலரேனும்
though some people who cannot live beyond the destined span of life, are naturally without love.
எம்பெருமான் என்று எப்போதும் அழைத்தவர்க்கு அருள் பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து அடிகள் (தாம்)
The god who bestows his grace on those if they invoke the name. Civaṉ is our god', and who is in pāccilāccirāman (தாம் expletive)
யாதுசொன்னாலும்
whatever you might request him.
பிழைத்து பொறுத்து ஒன்று ஈகிலராகில்
though if he does not give anything pardoning wrong.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
There is no other master to protect me except him; what can I do?

துணிப்படும் உடையும்
a loin cloth torn from a big cloth.
சுண்ண வெண்ணீறும்
sacred ash in the form of a fragrant power
தோற்றமும்
and other appearances.
சிந்தித்து
thinking of the greatness of these things.
காணில்
if I see them.
மணிப்படு கண்டனை வாயினால் கூறி மனத்தினால் தொண்டனேன் நினைவேன்
I who am his devotee presume to have seen in my mind Civaṉ who has a blue neck and will praise him with my tongue; when that is so.
பணிப்படும் அரவம் பற்றியகையர்
god who holds in his hand a cobra which serves him as an ornament.
பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து எம் பரமர்
and our supreme Lord in pāccilāccirāmam.
பிணிப்பட ஆண்டு
having admitted me into his grace having bound me to him.
(1) பணிப்பு இலராகில்
though he does not grant me anything.
இவர் அலாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
There is no other master to protect me except him; what can I do?

ஒருமையே அல்லேன்
I am not a servant of God in this single birth.
எழுமையும் அடியேன்
I have been his servant in all the seven prarious births.
அடியவர்க்கு அடியனும் ஆனேன்
not only that; I became the servant of his servants also.
உரிமையால் உரியேன்
He has very right to sell me and to mortgage me.
உள்ளமும் உருகும்
my heart also melts.
ஒண்மலர்ச் சேவடி காட்டாய்
you do not show me your red feet which are like the flowers and (which are my great companions)
அருமையாம் புகழார்க்கு அருள்செயும் பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்து (1) எம் தம் அடிகள்
our god in pāccilāccirāmam who grants his grace to great people who have fame which is not easy of attainment.
பெருமைகள் பேசி
talking tall things.
சிறுமைகள் செய்யில்
if he does low things.
இவர் அலாது பிரனார் இல்லையோ
There is no other master to protect me except him; what can I do?

ஏசின அல்ல
neither these words are intentionally despising the Lord.
இகழ்ந்தன அல்ல
nor are they words of abuse.
எம்பெருமான் என்று எப்போதும் பாயின புகழான்
Civaṉ whose fame has spread far and wide as is called affectionately as our Lord by his devotees.
பாச்சிலாச்சிராமத்தி அடிகளை அடிதொழ
to worship with joined hands the feet of the Lord in pāccilāccirāmam.
பன்னாள்
on many days.
வளவயல்நாவல் ஆரூரன்
ārūraṉ, a native of nāvalūr of fertile fields.
வாயினால் கூறி
praising his fame which is the function of the mouth.
மனத்தினான்நினைவான்
and meditating on that in his mind.
பேசின பேச்சைப் பொறுத்திலர் ஆகில்
if he does not forgive the words spoken.
இவர் அல்லாது பிரானார் இல்லையோ
there is no other master who can protect me except him; what can I do?
