{$} அண்டம் கடந்த சுவடும் உண்டோ
is there any sign of Civaṉ having gone beyond the universe?
[[this refers to Civaṉ's form in the form of a column of fire to make Māl and Piramaṉ to search it]]
அனல் அங்கை ஏந்தி ஆடல் உண்டோ
Does he dance holding in the palm fire?
பண்டை எழுவர் படியும் உண்டோ
Is there in him the form of the seven sages of old?
[[the seven sages are akattiyaṉ, pulattiyaṉ, aṅkiracu, kautamaṉ, vaciṭṭaṉ, kācipaṉ and mārkkaṇṭaṉ/(mārkkaṇṭēyaṉ)]]
பாரீடங்கள் பலசூழப்போந்த்து உண்டோ
Is there a practice of his going out surrounded by many pūtams?
கண்டம் இதையே கறுத்தது உண்டோ
Is there a little black spot in his neck?
கண்ணின்மேல்(1) கண் ஒன்று உடையது உண்டோ
is there an eye above the two eyes in the face?
தொண்டர்கள் சூழத் தொடர்ச்சி உண்டோ
has he a following of devotees who surround him?
எம்பிரானாரைக் கண்டஆறே சொல்லீர்
(Devotees!) please tell me as you have had a vision of our Lord!

{$} எரிகின்ற இளஞாயிறு அன்னமேனி இலங்குஇழை ஓர்பால் உண்டோ
is there on one half a lady wearing shining jewels, in the body which is like the rising sun which has scorching heat?
வெள்ஏறு உண்டோ
is there one white bull?
விரிகின்ற பொறி அரவத்து அழலும் உண்டோ
is there fire which makes a sound when burning and sends sparks spreading everywhere?
வேழத்தின்உரி உண்டோ
is there an elephant's skin?
வெண்ணூல் உண்டோ
is there the white sacred thread?
வரிநின்ற பொறிஅரவச் சடையும் உண்டோ
is there also the caṭai in which there is a cobra having spots and lines on its body?
அச்சடைமேல் இளமதியம் வைத்து உண்டோ
is there a crescent which has been placed on that caṭai?
சொறிகின்ற புனல் உண்டோ
is there water which is flowing?

there a chaplet of a crescent on the red caṭai?
நெறிறிமேல் கண் உண்டோ
is there an eye on the forehead.
நீறுசாந்தோ
is the sacred ash the sandal-paste?
புலால் நாறு வெள்ளெலும்பு பூண்டது உண்டோ
is there an adornment of white bones from which issues the strench of flesh?
பூதம் தற்சூழ்ந்தனவோ
did the pūtam-s surround him?
போர் ஏறு உண்டோ
is there a bull capable of fighting?
கலாம் மாலை வேற்கண்ணாள் (1)பாகத்து உண்டோ
is there a lady whose eyes are like the weapon, vēl which has the nature of giving battle?
கார்கொன்றை மாலை கலந்தது உண்டோ
is the garland of koṉṟai which blossoms in winter united with him?
சுலாமாலை ஆடு அரவம் தோள்மேல் உண்டோ
is there a cobra which can dance and which is like a round garland on the shoulder?
சொல்லீர் எம்பிரானாரைக் கண்டஆறே

{$} பண் ஆர்ந்த வீணை பயின்றது உண்டோ
has Civaṉ practised playing on the vīṇai which is full of melody-types?
பாரிடங்கள் பல சூழப் போந்தது உண்டோ

உண்ணா அருநஞ்சம் உண்டது உண்டோ
Has he consumed the poison which has no antidote and which no one else dared to consume?

ஊழித்தீ அன்ன ஒளிதான் உண்டோ
is there the brilliance of the fire that appears at the end of the worlds?
கண்ஆர் கழல் காலற் செற்றது உண்டோ
did his kaḻal which produces joy in the mind of devotees destroy the god of death?
காமனையும் கண் அழலால் காய்ந்தது உண்டோ
did he cause the destruction of even Kāmaṉ, by the fire of the frontal eye.
எண்ணார் திரிபுரங்கள் எய்தது உண்டோ
did he shoot an arrow on the three cities of enemies?

what is the manner by which you had a vision of our master?

is there a half of his holy body which is smeared with sacred ash?

நெற்றிமேல் ஒற்றைக்கண் முற்றும் உண்டோ
is there the frontal eye which is full of fire?
கூறுஉடைய கொடுமழுவாள் கையில் உண்டோ
is there the weapon of a curved battle-axe which is sharp?

is there the skin of a tiger which is capable of killing, worn as dress in the form he assumed?
ஆறு உடைய சடை உண்டோ
is there a caṭai which has the river, Kaṅkai?
அரவம் உண்டோ, அதன் அருகே பிறை உண்டோ
is there a cobra? is there a crescent by its side?
அளவு இலாத ஏறு உடைய கொடி உண்டோ
is there a flag of a bull which has no superior or comparable thing?
இலயம் உண்டோ
is there dance?

{$} பட்டமும் தோடும் ஓர்பாலில் கண்டேன்
I saw a plate of gold on the forehead on the right half and a women's ear-ring on the left half.
பார் திகழப் பலி திரிந்து போதக் கண்டேன்
I saw Civaṉ wandering and going for alms to make the earth beautiful.
கொட்டி நின்று இலயங்கள் ஆடக்கண்டேன்
I saw him perform dances of many kinds in the standing posture when the pūtam-s play on the instruments

குழை காதில், பிறை சென்னி இலங்கக் கண்டேன்
I saw the men's ear-ring on the ear and the crescent on the head to shine brightly.
கட்டங்கக்கொடி திண்தோள் ஆடக் கண்டேன்
I saw the flag on which the battle-axe is drawn to move on the strong shoulder

I saw the heavy weapon of a battle-axe to shine in the right hand
சிட்டனைத் திருவாலவாயில் கண்டேன்
I saw the eminent god, Civaṉ in Tiruvālavāy.
தேவனைக் கனவில் நான் கண்டஆறு (ஏ)
this is how I saw god in my dream.

{$} அலைத்து ஓடு புனல்கங்கை சடையில் கண்டேன்
I saw in the caṭai Kaṅkai which has running water throwing waves.
அலர்கொன்றைத்தார் அணிந்த ஆறு கண்டேன்
I saw the manner of his wearing a garland of blossomed koṉṟai on the chest.
பலிக்கு ஓடித் திரிவார் கைப் பாம்பு கண்டேன்
saw a cobra in the hand of Civaṉ who wanders running for alms.
பழனம் புகுவாரைப் பகலே கண்டேன்
saw in the day-time itself Civaṉ who enters into the shrine at Paḻaṉam?
கலிக்கச்சி மேற்றளியே இருக்கக் கண்டேன்
saw him seated in the temple Mēṟṟaḷi, in Kacci of great bustle.
கறைமிடறும் கண்டேன்; கனலும் கண்டேன்
saw the neck also with poison, saw the fire also.
வலித்து உடுத்த மான்தோல் (1) அரையில் கண்டேன்
saw the deer skin which was fastened tightly in the waist.
மறைவல்ல மாதவனைக் கண்ட ஆறு (ஏ)
this is how I saw the great ascetic who is well-versed in the Vētam-s.

{$} நீறு ஏறு திருமேனி நிகழக் கண்டேன்
I saw the holy body which was profusely smeared with sacred ash, to shine;
[[நிகழ்தல் shining,
வளன்அற நிகழ்ந்து வாழுநர் பலர்பட (patiṟṟuppattu, 49-15)]]
நீள்சடைமேல் நிறைகங்கை ஏறக்கண்டேன்
saw Kaṅkai full of floods of climb up the long caṭai.
கூறு ஏறு கொடுமழுவாள் கொள்ளக் கண்டேன்
saw the cruel and very sharp weapon of a battle-axe to be held in the hand

கொடுகொட்டி கையலகு கையில் கண்டேன்
saw the musical instruments koṭukoṭṭi and kaiyalaku in the hand
[[$$$கையலகு: I think it is a scribal error; it occurs only for the first in this verse. It should be கல்லலகு which நெடும்புருவக் கபாலம் ஏந்தி (Tiruvatikai Vīraṭṭāṉam (16) 1)
கல்லலகு தாம் கொண்டு (Do Tiruvāmāttūr, (2) 9);
கல்லலகு பாணி பயின்றார் போலும் (Do. tiru ākkūr, 1)]]
ஆறு ஏறு சென்னி அணி மதியும் கண்டேன்
saw the crescent also on the head on which the river had climbed up.
அடியார்கட்கு ஆர் அமுதமாகக் கண்டேன்
saw him as the rare nectar to his devotees.
ஏறு ஏறி இந்நெறியே போதக் கண்டேன்
saw him go this way riding on a bull.
இவ்வகை எம்பெருமானைக் கண்டஆறு (ஏ)
this is the manner in which I saw our Lord.

{$} விரையுண்ட வெண்ணீறுதானும் உண்டு
there was white sacred ash to which was added perfume.
வெண்தலை உண்டு; ஒரு கைவீணை உண்டு
there is a white skull; there is a Vīṇai in one hand.
சுரை உண்டு
there is a pitcher-like vessel made of the sheel of a bottle-gourd
(perhaps this is the vessel to receive alms)
சூடும் பிறை ஒன்று உண்டு
there is one crescent which is worn on the head.
சூலமும் தண்டும் சுமந்தது உண்டு
he carried a trident and a club.
அரை உண்ட கோவணஆடை உண்டு
there is a dress of a loin cloth worn on the waist.
(1) வலிக்கோலும் தோலும் அழகா உண்டு
there are a staff which he uses for support and a skin which are beautiful.
(2) இரை உண்டு அறியாத பாம்பும் உண்டு
there is also a cobra that does not know having eaten its prey.
இமையோர் பெருமான் இலாதது என் (ஏ)
what is the thing that is not in Civaṉ who is the Lord of the celestials who do not wink
(He has every thing as his possession)
(Did you, his devotees, see those things!)

{$} மைப்படிந்த கண்ணாளும் தானும் கச்சிமயானத்தான் வார்சடையன் என்னின் அல்லான்
if you describes Kacci mayaṉattāṉ having a lady who has eyes in which colliriyum has settled, as the god who has a long caṭai, he is not so
(It is not his complete nature).
ஒப்பு உடையன் அல்லன்
he has not accepted these things for his sake.
ஒருவன் அல்லன்
he is not any one of the things of the world.
ஓர் ஊரன் அல்லன்
one cannot say the he confined to one place to the exclusion of others.
ஓர் ஊரன் அல்லன்
one cannor say the he confined to one place to the exclusion of others.
ஓர் உவமன் இல்லி
he has no one and nothing comparable to him.
அப்படியும்
those attributes like kacci mayāṉattāṉ, God who has a long caṭai.
அந்நிறமும்
that colour.
அவ்வண்ணமும்
and that nature.
அவன்அருளே கண் ஆகக் காணின் அல்லால்
unless we are able to have a vision of him being endowed with an eye which is his grace.
இப்படியன்
he is such and such a person.
இந்நிறத்தன்
he has this colour
இவ்வண்ணத்தன்
he has this nature.
இவன் இறைவன் என்று எழுதிக் கொட்டொணாது (ஏ)
It is difficult to show him drawing a portrait that this is Lord, Civaṉ.

{$} பொன் ஒத்த மேனிமேல் பொடியும் கண்டேன்
I saw the powder of sacred ash on the body which is as bright as gold.
புலித்தோல் உடைகண்டேன்
saw him dressed in the skin of a tiger.
புணரத்தன்மேல் மின் ஒத்த நுண் இடையான் பாகம் கண்டேன்
saw the half of a lady, Umai who has a minute waist to be united with him.
(1) மிளிர்வது ஒரு பாம்பும் அரைமேல் கண்டேன்
saw in the waist a shining cobra.
அன்னத்தேர் ஊர்ந்த அரக்கன்தன்னை அலற அடர்த்திட்ட அடியும் கண்டேன்
saw the foot also that pressed down the arakkaṉ who flew in puṭpakam which was as white as the swan, to roar.
சின்னம் மலர்க் கொன்றைக் கண்ணி கண்டேன்
saw the chaplet of koṉṟai flowers which is Civaṉ's insignia
சிவனை நான் சிந்தையுள் கண்ட ஆறு(ஏ)
this is how I saw Civaṉ in my mind
(I saw him as such with my physical eyes. Did you also see him, devotees?)
