{$} எத்தாயர் எத்தந்தை எச்சுற்றத்தார் ஏவர் நல்லார்
among mothers however great they may be, father however great, and relations however great and others who are good people?

எம்மாடு சும்மாடாம்
wealth however plenty it may be is only a burden
[[சும்மாடு pad on the head for carrying loads]]
செத்தால் வந்து உதவுவார் ஒருவர் (உம்) இல்லை
if we die no one will come and be of help to us.
சிறுவிறகால் தீமூட்டிச் செல்லா நிற்பர்
they will be leaving quickly the cremation ground by lighting the funeral pyre, without staying till it is completely burnt.
சித்துஆய வேடத்தாய்
one who has a form which is pure knowledge
நீடுபொன்னித் திருவானைக்கா உடைய செல்வா
God who has Āṉaikkā as his abode, by the side of the Poṉṉi in which water flows throughout the year!
என்தன் அத்தா
my father!
உன் பொற்பாதம் அடையப்பெற்றால்
As I have approached your golden feet
[[பெற்றால் not used in he sense if I approach but is used in the sense as I have approached]]
அல்லகண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
Shall I, your protege, feel pain by the afflictions

{$} ஊன் ஆகி
Being the bodies
உயிர் ஆகி
Being the life that is in them
அதனுள் நின்ற உணர்வு ஆகி
and being the knowledge that is within them
பிற அனைத்தும் நீயாய் நின்றாய்
you were all other things.
நான் ஏதும் அறியாமே என்னுள் வந்து
entering into me without my knowing that even a little
நல்லனவும் தீயனவும் காட்டா நின்றாய்
you showed me good and bad things.
தேன்ஆரும் கொன்றையனே
one who adorns himself with koṉṟai flowers having plenty of honey!
நின்றியூராய்
one who is in Niṉṟiyūr!
திருவானைக்காவில் உறை சிவனே
Civaṉ who dwells in Tiruvāṉaikkā!
ஞானம் ஆனாய்
you are the spiritual wisdom!
உன்பொற்பாதம் அடையப் பெற்றால்
as I have approached your golden feet.
அல்லகண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
Shall I, your protege, feel pain by the afflictions?

{$} ஒன்றலாத்தவத்தாரோடு உடனே நின்று
standing in the company of jains who do penance which is not suited to them.
துப்பு ஆரும் குறை அடிசில்
and eating the gruel which is intended for eating

நற்று உன் திறம் மறந்து திரிவேனை ஒப்பாய் இவ்வுலகத்தோடு ஒட்டிவாழ்வான் நீ வந்து காத்து
protecting me who was wandering forgetting completely your nature to lead a life in common united with the people of this world, by coming voluntarily to me.
எப்பாலும் நுன் உணர்வே ஆக்கி
having made me realise knowledge about you in all things.
என்னை ஆண்டவனே
one who admitted me as your protege!
எழில் ஆனைக்காவா
one who is in Āṉaikka!
வானோர் அப்பா
the father of the celestials!
உன்பொற்பாதம் அடையப்பெற்றால்
as I have approached your golden feet.
அல்ல கண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
shall I, your protege, feel pain by the afflictions?

{$} நினைத்தவர்கள் நெஞ்சு உளாய்
one who dwells in the minds of those who think about you!
வஞ்சக்கள்வா
the deceitful robber
[[As Civaṉ himself dwells in the minds of those who do not think about him he is addressed as such]]
நிறைமதியம் சடைவைத்தாய்
who placed a crescent having fullness of light!
உன்பால் அடையாது முனைத்தவர்கள் புரம் மூன்றும் எரியச் செற்றாய்
you who destroyed by burning the all the three cities of those who were prepared to fight against you, without reaching you!
முன் ஆனைத்தோல் போர்த்தமுதல்வா
the chief who covered yourself with the skin of an elephant, long ago!
என்றும் கனைத்துவரும் எருது எறும் காளகண்டா
one with a black neck who always rides on a bellowing bull.
கயிலாயமலையாய்
one who is in the mountain Kayilāyam!
அனைத்து உலகும் ஆள்வானே-
ruler of all the worlds!
ஆனைக்காவா
one who dwells in Āṉaikkā!
நின்கழலே சேர்ந்தேன்
I reached your feet only
அல்ல கண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
shall I, your protege, suffer pain by the afflictions.

{$} இம்மாயப்பிறப்பென்னும் கடலாம் துன்பத்திடைச் சுழிப்பட்டு இளைப்பேனை இளையாவண்ணம்
To make me who was caught in the whirlpool of sufferings which are like the ocean in this birth which is transient and feel exhausted, not to feel exhausted.
கைம்மான மனத்துஉதவி
helping me seated in my mind, like the hand

கருணைசெய்து
bestowing grace upon me
காதல் அருள் அவை வைத்தாய்
You placed on me your many graces out of love towards me.
[[This refers to his being separated from camaṇar and saving from all kinds of religious persecutions as a result of that]]
காணநில்லாய்
Though you have done so much for me you do not stand before me to be seen by me.
வெம்மான மதகரியின் உரிவை போர்த்த வேதியனே
the brahmin who covered himself with the skin of a cruel and proud elephant having must!
தென் ஆனைக்காவுள் மேய அம்மான்
god who is in beautiful Āṉaikkā!
நின்பொற்பாதம் அடையப்பெற்றால்
As I have approached you golden feet,
அல்லகண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
shall I, your protage, suffer pain by the afflictions?

{$} உரை ஆரும் புகழானே
Civaṉ whose fame is contained in every word of praise!
கச்சிஏகம்பனே
Ēkampaṉ in Kacci
காரோணத்தாய்
one who is Kārōṇam!
[[Kārōṇam may mean any of the three shrines so called]]
விரை ஆரும் மலர்தூவி வணங்குவார்பால் மிக்கானே
Civaṉ who is partial towards people who adore him scattering flowers full of fragrance
அக்கு அரவம் ஆரம் பூண்டாய்
you who adorned yourself with garlands of chank beads and cobras.
திரை ஆரும் புனற்பொன்னித் தீர்த்தம் மல்கு திருவானைக்காவில் உறைதேனே
the honey that dwells in Āṉaikkā where the holy river of Poṉṉi, which has water full of waves, increases in greatness!
வானோர் அரையா
the King of the celestials!
உன்பொற்பாதம் அடையப்பெற்றால்
As I have approached your golden feet.
அல்ல கண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
Shall I, your protege suffer pain by the afflictions?

{$} மை ஆரும் மணிமிடற்றாய்
Civaṉ who has a beautiful neck where there is black poison!
மாது ஓர் கூறாய்
who has on one half a lady!
மான் மறியும் மாமழுவும் அனலும் ஏந்தும் கையானே
who holds in the hands a young deer, a big battle-axe and fire!
காலன் உடல்மாளச் செற்ற கங்காளா
who bore a skeleton and who destroyed the body of kālaṉ to die!
முன்கோளும் விளைவும் ஆனாய்
who is the Karmams committed in many births and their fruits!
திருமேனி செய்யானே
who has a holy body which is red!
அரியாய்
who is difficult to be known by all!
தேவர்குலக்கொழுந்தே
who is the tender shoot in the creeper of the group of Tēvar!
தென் ஆனைக்காவுள்மேய ஐயா
the master, who is in the beautiful Āṉaikkā!
உன் பொற்பாதம் அடையப் பெற்றால்
as I have approached your golden feet
அல்லகண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
shall I, your protege, suffer pain by the afflictions?

{$} இலை ஆரும் சூலத்தாய்
one who has a trident of (three) blades!
எண்தோளானே
who has eight shoulders!
எவ்விடத்தும் நீ அல்லாது இல்லை என்று தலையாரக் கும்பிடுவார் தன்மையானே
who adapts to the nature of those who worship with joined hands placed on the head, thinking all the while that there is no one else everywhere except you!
[[we can see the presence of Civaṉ in civañāṉis]]
தழல்மடுத்த கையில் வைத்த மாமேருச் சிலையானே
one who has the bow of Mēru held in the hand and with which you set fire (to the three cities)!
திருவானைக்காவுள்மேயதீயாடி
one who dances in the fire and dwells in Tiruvāṉaikkā!
சிறுநோயால் நலிவுண்டு உள்ளம் (1) அலையாதே
without my mind suffering, afflicted by small ailments
நின்அடியே அடையப்பெற்றால்
as I have approached your feet only
அல்லகண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என் செய்கேன்
shall I, your protege suffer pain by the afflictionss?

{$} விண் ஆரும் புனல் பொதிந்த நெஞ்சடையாய்
Civaṉ who contained within his caṭai the water which was in heaven!
வேதநெறியானே
one who is the vedic religion!
எறிகடலின் நஞ்சு உண்டாய்
who drank the poison of the ocean which throws waves!
எண் ஆரும் புகழானே
who has a fame which is always in the minds of devotees
உன்னை எம்மானே என்று என்றே நாவினில் உன்னி
thinking about you without ceasing as `my master' and speaking about you in my speech
எப்போதும் கண்ணாரக்கண்டிருக்கக்களித்து
and always feeling happy by seeing you with my physical eyes to satisfy them
கடிபொழில்சூழ்தென் ஆனைக்காவுள்மேய அண்ணா
my master who is in the beautiful Āṉaikkā surrounded by fragrant gardens!
நின்பொற்பாதம் அடையப் பெற்றால்
as I have approached your golden feet.
அல்லகண்டம் கொண்டு அடியேன் என்செய்கேன்
shall I, your protege, suffer pain by the afflictions?

{$} கொடி ஏயும் வெள்ளேற்றாய்
one who has on his banner a white bull!
கூளிபாட
when the pēys sing
குறள் பூதம் கூத்தாட
and when the dwarf pūtams dance in unison with the songs
நீயும் ஆடி
you who are without equal aso danced.
வடிவு ஏயும் மங்கைதனை வைத்த மைந்தா
the strong youth who placed a lady of beautiful form on one half.
மதில் ஆனைக்கா உளாய்
Civaṉ who is in Āṉaikka which has a wall of enclosure!
மாகாளத்தாய்
who is in Mākaḷam
[[There are two shrine in Tamiḻ Nāṭu having the ending mākāḷam: Ampar mākāḷam, Irumpai mākāḷam; in north india there is one shrine by name Uncai mākāḷam; it may refer to any one of these three]]
படி ஏயும் கடல் இலங்கைக் கோமான் தன்னைப் பருமுடியும் திரள்தோளும் அடர்த்து உகந்த அடியேவந்து அடைந்து அடிமையாகப் பெற்றால்
As I have become a devotee coming and approaching your feet which become great by pressing down the group of twenty shoulders and big heads of the King of Ilaṇgai surrounded by the ocean, which can stand as comparison to other cities
