Civan who remains as the sky and the other four elements! Let you protect me!
மீளாமே ஆள் என்னைக் கொண்டாய் (போற்றி)
you admitted me as your slave without redemption.
ஊற்று ஆகி
being a spring of joy.
உள்ளே ஒளித்தாய் (போற்றி)
you hid yourself without being seen by the physical eye, in the intelligence of the soul.
ஓவாத சத்தத்து ஒலியே (போற்றி)
the letters born out of the increasing sound.
ஆற்று ஆகி அங்கே அமர்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you remained in the five elements, mind and the light.
ஆறு அங்கம் நால்வேதம் ஆனாய் (போற்றி)
you are the six ankams and the four vetams.
காற்று ஆகி எங்கும் கலந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you pervaded everywhere like the air.

the master who completely removes births!
வைச்சு ஆடல் (1) நன்று மகிழ்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
placing the living being in many kinds of birth, greatly rejoiced in seeing them functioning.
மருவி என் சிந்தை புகுந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you entered into my mind coming near me.
பொய்ச்சார் புரம் மூன்றும் எய்தாய் (போற்றி)
you shot an arrow on all the three cities of the acurar who were not steadfast in their love towards you (பொய்ச்சார்-பொய்த்தார்) போகாது என் சிந்தை புகுந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you entered into my mind never leaving it.

you tied a cobra as a girdle in your waist.

the different classe of wealth!
தேசம் பரவப் படுவாய் (போற்றி)
you are praised by the people of this world.
கரு ஆகி ஓடும் முகிலே (போற்றி)
the clouds that run having drawn water!

the nectar which is praised by the celestials.

Lord who has a holy form which removes defects.
ஓங்கி அழலாய் நிமிர்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you shot up as a column of fire rising high.
தேனத்தை வார்த்த தெளியே (போற்றி)
the essence of the honey which is filtered.
தேவர்க்கும் தேவனாய் நின்றாய் போற்றி)
you remained as superior even to the celestials.
கானத்தீ ஆடல் உகந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you rejoiced in dancing in the fire of the cremation-ground.

the world which has many places.
ஓங்கி அழலாய் நிமிர்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)

you spread yourself everywhere in the form of fame.
பெயராது என் சிந்தை புகுந்தாய் (போற்றி)

நீர் ஆவி ஆன நிழலே (போற்றி)
you are the vapour and the shadow (நிழல் here refers to the shadow of living beings found in water)
நேர்வார் ஒருவரையும் இல்லாய் (போற்றி)
you have no one to be compared to you.
கார் ஆகி நின்ற முகிலே (போற்றி)
the cloud that has the black colour!

you consolidated yourself into one form, at first being many different deities and granting your grace to them.

the god whom the ordinary celestials could not know.
புல் உயிர்க்கும் பூட்சி புணர்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you endowed even the small living beings with bodies.
போகாது என்சிந்தை புகுந்தாய் (போற்றி)

பல் உயிராய் பார்தோறும் நின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you remained in every world as many beings.
பற்றி உலகை விடாதாய் (போற்றி)
you do not leave the world having caught hold of it, because of your grace
கல் உயிராய் நின்ற கனலே (போற்றி)
the fire that is found in the living being in stones.

you remained as the music produced by the aggregation of the seven notes of the diatonic scale.
பாவிப்பார் பாவம் அறுப்பார் (போற்றி)
you cut at the root of the sins of those who meditate on you.
எண்ணும் எழுத்தும் சொல் ஆனாய் (போற்றி)
you are the numbers, the letters and words.
என் சிந்தை நீங்கா இறைவா (போற்றி)
you have never taken leave of my mind.
விண்ணும் நிலனும் தீ (உம்) ஆனாய் (போற்றி)
you are the sky, the earth, the fire, (the air and the water)
மேலவர்க்கும் மேல் ஆகி நின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you remained superior to those who are considered superior celestials.
கண்ணின் மணி ஆகி நின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you remained as the apply of my eye.

you were without winking and breathing unlike other being endowed with bodies.

the all-pervading god who does not leave my mind.
உமை பாகம் ஆகத்து அணைத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you joined the part of Umai in your body.
ஊழி ஏழ் ஆன ஒருவா (போற்றி)
the unequalled god who is himself the seven aeons

அருமையா அருநஞ்சம் ஆர்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you consumed the rare poison which is not suited to the body.

you remained as the supreme being, being the primordial one.
கமை ஆகி நின்ற கனலே (போற்றி)
the fire that has patience (perhaps this refers to the submarine fire in the shape of a mare's head believed to consume the world at the end of an aeon, but inactive till that time)

you are not born, do not become aged and die.
முன்னமே தோன்றி முளைத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you came into existence before everything was created.

god whom the celestials Ayaṉ, ari and uruttiran worships!
எங்கும் சென்று எறிப் பரந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you pervaded everything going there.
ஆவா! அடியேனுக்கு எல்லாம் (போற்றி)
you are all things to me (ஆவா an exclamation expressive of joy)
அல்லல் நலிய அலந்தேன் (போற்றி)
I suffered when mis-fortune inflicted on me pain.
கனகத் திரளே காவாய் (போற்றி)
the help of gold! protect me.

you remained without being known when Māl and Piramaṉ searched the feet and head being in opposition to each other.

you kicked the cruel and strong god of death.

you occupied my mind as your temple

எண்ணா இலங்கைக் கோன் தன்னை இறை விரலால் வைத்து உகந்த ஈசா (போற்றி, போற்றி)
the Lord of the universe who rejoiced after punishing the king of ilaṅkai who did not consider lifting the mountain as a sacrilege by fixing your toe a little.
பண் ஆர் இசை இன் சொல் கேட்டாய் (போற்றி)
you listened to the sweet words which contained music in them.
பண்டே என்சிந்தை புகுந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you entered into my mind from very early times.
கண் ஆய் உலகுக்கு நின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you remained as the eye for the world.
