the chief of the immortals, who dwells in cool Āvaṭutuṟai!
என் திருவே
my good karmam for my acquiring wealth!
செல்வமே
my wealth!
தேனே
god who is as sweet as honey when I think of you

வானோர் செழுஞ்சுடரே
the bright light of the celestials
செழுஞ்சுடர் நற்சோதி மிக்க வருவே
the visible form of the bright and effulgent light
என் உறவே
my relations!
என் ஊனே
my body!
ஊனின் உள்ளமே
the mind within my body!
உள்ளத்தின் உள்ளே நின்ற கருவே
the embryo that was within the mind!
என் கற்பகமே
my kaṟpakam tree!
[[Kaṟpakam has the divine property of granting all that one desires to get.]]
கண்ணே
god who is as precious as my eye!
கண்ணில் கருமணியே
the apple of the eye!
மணி ஆடு பாவாய்
the pupil in the apple of the eyes, that is moving!
அரு ஆய வல்வினைநோய் அடையாவண்ணம் காவாய்
protect me from the diseases of irresistible Karmams which are invisible, from reaching me.

எண்ணின் எம் பெருமான் திருவடியே அல்லால் பிறதெய்வம் எண்ணா நாயேன்
I who am as low as a dog, who do not think of any other god if I think, except the feet of my master.
என்றன் நாவில் எழுத்து அஞ்சும் மாற்றேன்
I will not forget your mantiram consisting of five letters, from my tongue (I will always be repeating it in whatever state I may be)
திருவருள்கள் மறவேன்
I will not forget the many kinds of your graces.
வஞ்சம் நெஞ்சின் ஏற்றேன்
I will not impose deception on my mind.
மேல் தான் நீ செய்வனகள் செய்யக்கண்டு நாளும் நாளும் வேதனைக்கே இடம் கொடுத்து
putting up day after day with the punishments which you mete out to me hereafter and gazing at them helplessly.
ஆற்றேன்
I cannot bear further
அடியேனை அஞ்சல் என்னாய்

வரையார் மடமங்கை பங்கா
one who has the beautiful daughter of the mountain, as a half!
கங்கை மணவாளா
the husband of Kankai!
நின் தன் நாமம் உரையா உயிர் போகப் பெறுவேனாகில்
If I am so fortunate that my life will leave the body when I am uttering your name.
உறுநோய் எத்தனையும் வந்து உற்றால் என்னே
what harm is there if all the big diseases afflict me?
கரையா நினைந்து உருகிக் கண்ணீர் மல்கி
the body becoming emaciated and the heart melting thinking of you and the eyes becoming filled with tears.
காதலித்து நின் கழலே ஏத்தும் அன்பர்க்கு அரையா
the king of those devotees who are praising your feet themselves, with love!
அடியேனை அஞ்சேல் என்னாய்
please comfort me by assuring me `Do not be afraid of anything'

சிலைத்தார் திரிபுரங்கள் தீயில் வேவச் சிலைவளைவித்து
you caused to bend the mountain into a bow to burn the three cities in the fire, of those acurar who roared out of anger.
நோக்கி
looking at (the elephant)
கலித்து ஆங்கு இரும் பிடிமேல் கை வைத்து ஓடும் களிறு உமையவள் அஞ்ச உரித்த கங்காளா
Civaṉ who bore the skeleton, and flayed the male elephant which ran placing its truck on the big female elephant roaring, to make umayavaḷ frightened!
நிலத்தார் தமக்கே பொறையாய்
myself being a burden to the earth

நாளும் நில்லா உயிர் ஓம்பும் நீதனேன் நான் அலுத்தேன்
I who am very low and who protects the transients life daily, got exhausted.

நீரில் மூழ்கி
after taking a bath in water
நறு மாமலர் கொய்து
plucking big fragrant flowers
நாள் தோறும் நின் கழலே ஏத்தி வாழ்த்தி
praising daily your feet only and singing songs of benediction
துறவாத துன்பம் தேன் தன்னைச் சூழ் உலகில் ஊழ் வனை வந்து உற்றால் என்னே
what is there if the fate approaches me who left sufferings which cannot be renounced by me otherwise, in this world girt by the ocean
உறவு ஆகி வானவர்கள் முழுதும் வேண்ட ஒலிதிரை நீர்க் கடல் நஞ்சு உண்டு உய்யக் கொண்ட அறவா
the embodiment of all righteousness who saved and admitted as your protege the celestials by drinking the poison that rose in the watery ocean of great roar, when all the celestials begged you to save them, being in friendship with you.

கோன் நாரணன் அங்கம் தோள் மேற் கொண்டு
carrying on the shoulders the skeleton of the chief, nāraṇaṉ
கொழுமலாரான் தன் சிரத்தைக்கையில் ஏந்தி
holding the head (skull) of the Piramaṉ who is in a fertile (lotus) flower
கான் ஆர் களிற்று உரிவைப் போர்வை மூடி
covering yourself with the skin flayed from the elephant that lives in the forest
கங்காள வேடராய் எங்கும் செல்வீர்
you go everywhere having the form of adorning yourself with the skeleton
நான் ஆர்
what claim have I to your grace?
உமக்கு ஓர் வினைக்கேடனேன்
I am a useless person to you
நல்வினையும் தீவினையும் எல்லாம் முன்னே ஆனாய்
you were before, all the good acts and sinful acts.
அடியேனை அஞ்சேல் என்னாய்
please comfort your slave by assuring freedom from fear.

uttering sounds

மாமயில்கள் 1. ஆலும் சோலை ஆவடுதண்துறை உறையும் அமரர் ஏறே
the chief of the immortals, who dwells in cool āvaṭutuṟai which has gardens where big peacocks dance.
உழை மான் உரித்து உரிதோல் உடையானே
Civaṉ who flayed the deer and dressed himself with that skin?
உமையவள் தம் பெருமானே
the master of Umayavaḷ!
இமையோர் ஏறே
the chief of the celestials who do not wink
கழை இறுத்த கருங்கடல் நஞ்சு உண்ட கண்டா
who has a neck where you stationed the poison that rose in the black ocean which broke many banboos used to fathon its depth.
கயிலாய மலையானே
who is in the mountain Kayilāyam!
பெரியோய்
the great god!
உன்பால் அன்பர் பிழை பொறுத்தி என்பதுவும் கடன் அன்றே
is it not your duty to forgive the faults of those who cherish you with love?

உலந்தார் தலை கலன் ஒன்று எந்தி வானோர் உலகம் பலிதிரிவாய்
you wander in the world of the celestials for alms holding a skull of dead Piramaṉ, as a bowl
உன் பால் அன்பு கலந்தார் மனம் கவரும் காதலானே
Lord of boundless grace who captivates the minds of those who are in intimate love with you!
கனல் ஆடும் கையவனே
one in whose hand the fire is moving.

the eternal truth!
மலம் தாங்கு உயிர்ப்பிறிவி மாக்காய மயக்குளே விழுந்து அழுந்தி
having sunk falling into the mental delusion about transcient body into which the soul which has impurities is born.
நாளும் நாளும் அலந்தேன்
I suffered day after day.

பல் ஆர்ந்த வெண்தலை கையில் ஏந்தி
holding in the hand a skull with all the teeth intact
பசு ஏறி
riding on a bull
ஊர் ஊரன் பலி கொள்வானே
Civaṉ who receives alms in every village!
கல் ஆர்ந்த மலை மகளும் 1. நீயும் எல்லாம் கரிகாட்டில் ஆட்டு உகந்தீர்
you and the daughter of the mountain which is full of boulders desired dancing in the cremation ground where everything was scorched.
கருதீராகில்
if both of you do not think of admitting me as your protege.
எல்லாரும் என் தன்னை இகழ்வர் (போலும்)
all people will despise me.
ஏழை அமண் குண்டர் 2. சாக்கியர்கள் ஒன்றுக்கு அல்லாதார் திறத்து ஒழிந்தேன்
I have completely left the path of the ignorant and low people, amaṇar and cākkiyar (buddhists) who are not useful for anything
அஞ்சல் என்னாய்
please comfort me by asssuring me, Do not be afraid of anything.

துறந்தார் தம் தூநெறிக்கண் சென்றேன் அல்லேன்
I did not tread the spotless path of those who sincerely renounced the world.
துணைமாலை சூட்ட நான் துயேன் அல்லேன்
I am not pure enough to adorn you with garlands by stringing flowers.
நின் திருவருளே பேசின் பிறந்தேன்
If I talk about your grace I think myself to have been born as a human being.
பேசாத நாள் எல்லாம் பிறவா நாளே
those days in which I did not talk about it, they amount to my not being born as a human being

செறிந்து ஆர் மதில் இலங்கைக் கோமான் தன்னைச் செறுவரைக் கீழ் அடர்த்து அருள் இச் செய்கை எல்லாம் அறிந்தேன்
I knew the act of granting your grace after pressing under the mountain which caused pain, the King of ilaṇkai which is surrounded by hard and strong walls of fortifications.
