மூத்தவனாய் உலகுக்கு முந்தினானே
Being senior by age to all others, Civaṉ who existed even before the world was created.!
முறைமையால் எல்லாம் படைக்கின்றானே
who creates every thing according to plan.
ஏத்தவனாய் ஏழ் உலகும் ஆயினானே
who is the seven worlds besides being worthy of praise by all people!
காத்தவனாய் எல்லாம் தான் காண்கின்றானே
who perceives all things besides being their protector!
கடுவினையேன் தீவினையைக்கண்டு போகத் தீர்த்தவனே
who completely destroyed seeing the sins belonging to me who had evil destiny!
திருச் சோற்றுத்துறை உளானே
who is in tiruccōṟṟuttuṟai.
சிவனே
Civaṉ!
நான் உன் அபயம்
I took refuge in you to free me from fear.

தலையவனாய் உலகுக்கு ஓர் தன்மையானே
Civaṉ who is the chief of the world and has a uniform beneficial nature
தத்துவனாய்
being the ultimate reality.
சார்ந்தார்க்கு இன்னமுது ஆனானே
who is the sweet nectar to those who approach him!
நிலையவனாய் நின் ஒப்பார் இல்லாதானே
Being permanent you who are without equal in any respect!
நின்று உணராக் கூற்றைச் சீறிப்பாய்ந்த கொலையவனே
who killed the god of death who did not understand his action by concentration, pouncing upon him with anger!
கொல்யானைத் தோல் மேல் இட்ட கூற்றுவனே
who was the god of death in killing the elephant capable of killing and covering himself with its skin, flaying it!
கொடி மதில்கள் மூன்றும் எய்த சீலையவனே
who shot an arrow from a bow on the three forts on which flags were flying!

{$} முற்றாத பால் மதியம் சூடினானே
Civaṉ who wears a crescent that has not grown to its full size!
முளைத்து எழுந்த கற்பகத்தின் கொழுந்து ஒப்பானே
who is the like the tender leaf of the Kaṟpakam tree which has sprouts.
உற்றார் என்று ஒருவரையும் இல்லாதானே
who has none to be claimed as blood relations.
உலகு ஓம்பும் ஒண்சுடரே
who is the bright light that protects the world.
ஓதும் வேதம் கற்றானே
who is well-versed in the vētam that is chanted.
எல்லாக்கலை ஞானமும் கல்லாதேன் தீவினை நோய் கண்டு போகச் செற்றானே
who destroyed seeing the diseases and sins of mine who does not possess knowledge of any one of the arts,to leave me!
திருச் சோற்றுத்துறை உளானே
who is in tiruccōṟṟuttuṟai!
திகழ் ஒளியே! சிவனே! உன் அபயம் நானே

கண்ணவனாய் உலகு எல்லாம் காக்கின்றானே
Civaṉ who protect all the worlds, being as important to them as the eye!
காலங்கள் ஊழி கண்டு இருக்கின்றானே
who survives after seeing many acons!
விண்ணவனாய் விண்ணவர்க்கு அருள் செய்வானே
Being himself a celestial out of his own will, who bestows grace on celestials too!
வேதனாய் வேதம் விரித்திட்டானே
Himself chanting the vetams, he revealed the vētams!
1. எண் அவனே
Being capable of doing anything out of free will

எண்ணார் புரங்கள் மூன்றும் இமையா முன் எரி கொளுவ நோக்கிநக்க திண்ணவனே
the strong god who laughed gazing at the three cities of the enemies, to set them ablaze within the twinkling of the eye.

நம்பனே
Civaṉ in whom devotees can repose their confidence!
நான் மறைகள் ஆயினானே
who is himself the four vētams!
நடம் ஆட வல்லானே
who is capable of dancing!
ஞானக் கூத்தா
one whose dance grants spiritual wisdom!
கம்பனே கச்சி மாநகர் உளானே
who is in Ēkampam and other temples in the big city of Kacci
[[கம்பம் = ஏகம்பன் the first letter is dropped.
As ēkampam is an eminent shrine it is mentioned by name and other shrines are clubbed together]]

கடிமதில்கள் மூன்றினையும் பொடியா எய்த அம்பனே
who shot an arrow at the guarded three forts to reduce them to ash!
அளவு இலாப் பெருமையானே
whose greatness cannot be measured
அடியார்கட்கு ஆரமுதே
who is as sweet as the rare ambrosia to his devotees.
ஆன் ஏறு ஏறும் செம்பொனே
the pure gold who rides on a bull

(1) உலகு எலாம் நீயே ஆகி ஆர்ந்தவனே
one who pervades everywhere being all the worlds.
அமைந்தவனே
one who is without any deficiency
அளவு இலாப் பெருமையானே
one whose greatness is unlimited.
கூர்ந்தவனே
one who is compassionate on all beings
குற்றாலம்மேய கூத்தா
one who is the dancer in Kuṟṟālam.
கொடு மூ இலையது ஓர் சூலம் ஏந்திப் பேர்ந்தவனே
one who wandered holding a trident which has three curved blades.
(2) பிரளயங்கள் எல்லாம் ஆய பெம்மான் என்று எப்போதும் பேசும் நெஞ்சில் சேர்ந்தவனே
one who dwells in the minds of devotees who always speak about him as the great one who has absorbed everything into him.

{$} வானவனாய் வண்மை மனத்தினானே
one who is a celestial and a liberal-minded person!
மாமணி சேர் வானோர் பெருமான் நீயே
only you are the Lord of the celestials who possess the great gem, Cintāmaṇi.
கானவனாய் ஏனத்தின்பின் சென்றானே
one who followed the pig in the disguise of a hunter.
கடிய அரணங்கள் மூன்று அட்டானே
one who destroyed the dreadful three forts!
தானவனாய்த்தண் கயிலை மேவினானே
one who is seated in cool Kayilai being munificent
[[தானவன் is derived from தானம் donation.]]
தன் ஒப்பார் இல்லாத மங்கைக்கு என்றும் தேனவனே
one who is always as sweet as honey to a lady (Umai) who has no equal.

தன்னவனாய்
Being independant.
உலகு எலாம் தானே ஆகி
and pervading all worlds.
தத்துவனாய்
and being the ultimate reality
சார்ந்தார்க்கு இன்னமுது ஆனானே
one who is the sweet nectar to his devotees who approach him
என்னவனாய்
being by right my relation.
என் இதயம் மேவினானே
one who dwells in my heart.
ஈசனே
Lord Civaṉ!
பாச வினைகள் தீர்க்கும் மன்னவனே
the King who removes the Karmams that bind the soul like ropes!
மாலைமங்கை பாகமாக வைத்தவனே
one who placed the daughter of the mountain as one half!
வானோர் வணங்கும் பொன்னித் தென்னவனே
one who has his temple on the southern bank of the river, poṉṉi, which is worshipped by the residents of heaven.

{$} எறிந்தானே
one who destroyed everything!
எண் திசைக்கும் கண் ஆனானே
who is the real eye for the eight directions.
ஏழ் உலகம் எல்லாம் முன் ஆய் நின்றானே
one who existed even before the seven worlds came into existence.
[[The first line indicates that Civaṉ is the cause for creation, sustaining and destruction]]
அறிந்தார் தாம் ஓர் இருவர் அறியாவண்ணம் ஆதியும் அந்தமும் ஆகி அங்கே பிறிந்தானே
one who was different from those two (Māl and Piramaṉ) not to be known by them though they knew all other things, himself being the beginning and end of all things.
[[பிரிந்தான் has become பிறிந்தான் to suit rhyme (etukai)]]
பிறர் ஒருவர் அறியாவண்ணம் பெம்மான் என்று எப்போதும் ஏத்தும் நெஞ்சிற்செறிந்தானே
one who occupies fully the minds of those who praise him without being known to others, always saying `the great one'

{$} மை அனைய கண்டத்தாய்
one who has a neck which is like the collyrium (மை may also mean cloud;
கொண்டலும் நீலமும் புரை திரு மிடறர் (campantār, tirukkaḻumalam (2) 2).]]
மாலும் மற்றை வானவரும் அறியா வண்ணச் சூலக்கையவனே
one who holds in his hand a trident and who could not be known by Māl andother celestials (Māl is mentioned by name separately though he can be included among (வானவர் by his eminence).
கடி இலங்கைக் கோனை அன்று கால்விரலால் கதிர் முடியும் தோளும் செற்ற மெய்யவனே
the reality that destroyed the glittering crowns and shoulders of the King of ilankai which is guarded by the sea, in the distant past!
அடியார்கள் வேண்டிற்று ஈயும் விண்ணவனே
the god who grants the request of devotees!
விண்ணப்பம் கேட்டு நல்கும் செய்யவனே
the impartial god who grants boons hearing the petitions of devotees!
