திருவாரூர் கோயிலாக் கொண்ட நாளே
the day when you had Tiruvārūr as your temple.
ஒருவனாய் உலகு ஏத்த நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you stood as the unequalled chief to be praised by the people of this world!
ஓர் உருவே மூ உருவம் ஆனநாளோ
is it the day when the single form divided itself into three forms as Ayaṉ, Ari and Araṉ?
கருவனாய்க் காலனை முன் காய்ந்த நாளோ
is it the day when you got angry with the god of death and killed him?

காமனையும் கண் அழலால் விழித்த நாளோ
is it the day when you opened your frontal eye and destroyed Kāmaṉ too with the fire issuing from it?
மருவனாய் மண்ணும் விண்ணும் தெரித்த நாளோ
is it the day when you were united with the earth and the sky and created them?
மான் மறிக்கை ஏந்தி ஓர் மாது ஓர் பாகம் திருவினாள் சேர்வதற்கு முன்னோ பின்னோ
is it before or after the beautiful lady, Umai, was united with you as a half and your holding a young deer in the hand?

மலையார் பொற் பாவையொடு மகிழந்த நாளோ
is it the day when you rejoiced with a beautiful damsel of the mountain?
வானவரை வலி அமுதம் ஊட்டி அந்நாள் நிலை பேறு பெறுவித்து நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you gave stability to the celestials after feeding with the nectar which had the strength of preventing death?
நினைப்பு அரிய தழற் பிழம்பாய் நிமிர்ந்த நாளோ
is it the day when you shot up as a mass of fire which is even difficult to think of ?
அலைசாமே அலைகடல் நஞ்சு உண்ட நாளோ
is it the day when you consumed the poison that rose in the moving ocean, without any sign of distress?
அமரர் கணம் புடை சூழ இருந்தநாளோ
is it the day when you sat majestically to be surrounded on all sides by the groups of immortals.
சிலையால் முப்புரம் எரித்த முன்னோ பின்னோ
is it the day before or after you burnt the three cities with a bow.

பாடகம் சேர் மெல்லடி நற் பாவையாளும் நீயும் போய்ப் பார்த்தனது பலத்தைக்காண்பான், வேடனாய் வில் வாங்கி எய்த நாளோ
is it the day when you and the good damsel with soft feet wearing an ornament by name pāṭakam, went to the place where pārṭṭaṉ performed penance and saw in person his strength by disguising yourself as a hunter and bending the bow

is it the day before or after you entered in the hall where precious stones are shining in tiḷḷai where mansions with storeys are prosperity, to dance there permanently?

வளர் ஆரூர் கோயிலாக் கொண்ட நாள்
the day when you had ārūr which is increasing in greatness, as your temple.
ஓங்கி உயர்ந்து நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you rose and grew tall as a column of fire.
ஓர் உலகம் போல் ஏழ் உலகமாய் நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you did the functions of creation etc., in seven aeons as you did it in one aeon;
[[ஏழ் is used in the sense of many;
ஒரு நாள் எழுநாள் போல் செல்லும் சேட்சென்றார், வரு நாள்வைத்து ஏங்குபவர்க்கு ( kuṟal 1269);
ஏழ் என்பது அதற்கு மேலாய பன்மை குறித்து நின்றது ஒருவர் கூறை எழுவர் உடுத்து என்றாற் போல (Do. parimēlaḻakar)]]
தாங்கிய சீர்த்தலையான வானோர் செய்த தக்கன் தன் பெருவேள்வி தகர்த்த நாளோ
is it that day when you laid waste the big sacrifice performed by takkaṉ joining with the eminent celestials possessing fame (the eminent celestials are Ayaṉ Māl, the sun and the moon and other)
நீங்கிய நீர்த் தாமரையான் நெடுமாலோடு நில்லாய், எம்பொருமானே என்று அங்கு ஏத்தி
Piramaṉ who is in the lotus that does not grow in water, along with the tall Māl, praising you, `our Lord! please stay in our hearts without leaving them'.
மதி வாங்கி வைப்பதற்கு முன்னோ பின்னோ
is it the day before or after they received you in their minds to meditate on you?

பாலனாய் வளர்ந்திலாப் பான்மையானே
Civaṉ who did not grow into an adult passing through the stage of a boy!
பணிவார்கட்கு அங்கங்கே பற்று ஆனானே
who is the support to those who pay homage to you in their own places!
நீலமா மணிகண்டத்து எண்தோளானே
who has eight shoulders and a neck as blue as the sapphire.
1. நெருநலையாய் இன்று ஆகி நாளை ஆகும் சீலமே
who is the nature of having been the past and the present and becoming the future!
சிவலோக நெறியே ஆகும் சீர்மையே
the nature of being worthy of praise being the way to attain civalokam
கூர்மையே
the sharp intelligence!

குளிர் ஆரூர் கோயிலாக் கொண்ட நாளே

and showing the efforts to be taken.
சிறியையாய்ப் பெரியையாய் நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you stood as a small thing and also a big thing?
மறம் பலவும் உடையாரை மயக்கம் தீர்த்து
curing those who had sinful ways, of their confusion.
மா முனிவர்க்கு அருள் செய்து அங்கு இருந்த நாளோ
is it the day when you bestowed your grace on the great sages?
பிறங்கிய சீர்ப்பிரமன் தன் தலைகை ஏந்திப் பிச்சை ஏற்று உண்டு 1. உழன்று நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you received alms holding the skull of Piramaṉ of exalted fame, and wandering eating it?
அறம் பலவும் உரைப்பதற்கு முன்னோ பின்னோ
is it before or after you gave moral instruction to four sages.

தண் ஆரூர் கோயிலாக் கொண்ட நாள்
the day when you had as your abode the temple in cool ārūr.
(நிலந்தரந்து) நிலத்து அந்தரத்து நீண்ட உருவம் ஆன நாளோ
is it the day when you assumed the form of a column of fire touching the earth and the sky?
நிற்பனவும் நடப்பனவும் நீயே ஆகிக் கலந்து
your yourself being the beings which are immovable and movable and combining with them.
உரைக்கக் கற்பகமாய் நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you were praised as you stood as Kaṟpakam!
காரணத்தால்
for a particular reason.
நாரணனைக் கற்பித்து
creating nāraṇaṉ
வல் அசுரர் மாண்டு வீழ வலம் சுருக்கி
reducing the strength of strong acurar to make them fall dead.
வானோர் உய்ய வாசுகியை வாய் மடுத்து
drinking the poison split by the serpent vācuki, to save the celestials.

பாதத்தால் முயலகனைப் பாதுகாத்து
restraining by your foot the acuraṉ, muyalakaṉ
பாரகத்தே பரஞ்சுடராய் நின்ற நாளோ
is it the day when you stood as the supreme divine light in this world?
கீதத்தை மிகப்படும் அடியார்க்கு என்றும் கேடு இலாவான் உலகம் கொடுத்த நாளோ
is it the day when you granted the world, civalōkam which never knows destruction at any time, to the devotees who sing songs of your praise;

is that the day before or after you expounded and explained the vetams to the residents of heaven?

புகை எட்டும்
the eight kinds of birth the soul takes.
[[The eight are: tēvar, human beings, crawling beings, acquatic beings, birds, beasts, immovable things and those who are in hell.]]
போக்கு எட்டும்
the eight defects.
[[They are ignorance, delusion, ego, attachment towards one's body and other things, likes, dislikes, virtuous acts and sins]]
புலன் எட்டும்
the aids like the sensation,
[[There are the rudimentary or subtle elements from which the five sensations of taste, sight touch, sound and smell are produced, 2) the five elements, 3) the five sensory organs, 4) the five organs of motor actions (5) quality 6) mūlappakuti, the ultimate reality of purutaṉ 7) internal intellect 8) the faculties of the mind]]
பூதலங்கள் அவை எட்டும்
the earth combined with the seven upper worlds or the nether regions.

the eight islands?
[[They are, நாவல், சாகம், குசை, சிரௌஞ்சம், சான்மலி, கோமேதகம், புட்கரம் and the abode of the celestials which is gold]]
கலை எட்டும்
the seven oceans
[[The salty sea, ocean of milk, ocean of curd, ocean of ghee, ocean of sugar-cane juice, ocean of honey, ocean of fresh water and the big ocean surrounding the cakkaravālakiri;
They are calledகலை as they form as the dress for the respective islands]]
காப்பு எட்டும்
the mountains that stand as fortifications to those oceans
[[They are the seven, mountains surrounding the seven oceans and the cakkaravālakiri which girts the heaven of gold]]
காட்சி எட்டும்
the eight different sights that can be seen in the seven worlds

the four positive objective of human pursuit

is it the day when you were the fragrant flowers and the balmy southern breeze which the people enjoy.

is it the day when you gave the flowers with pollen
