Civaṉ who covers himself with the skin of a frenzied elephant having a trunk with which it can fight;

காண்பு அரிய செழுஞ்சுடரை
the effulgent divine light that cannot be seen with the physical eyes.
கனகக்குன்றை
a hill of gold.
இருங்கனக மதில் ஆரூர் மூலட்டானத்து எழுந்தருளியிருந்தானை
who condescended to dwell in ārūr mūlaṭṭāṉam which has a big fortified wall of gold.
இமையோர் ஏத்தும் அருந்தவனை
one who performed severe penance and who is praised by the celestials who do not wink;

who opened his frontal eye to destroy Mataṉ who is well-versed in using his bow.
விசயனுக்கு வேடுவனாய் நின்றான் தன்னை
who stood before Vicayaṉ in the form of a hunter.
பொற்பு அமரும் பொழில் ஆரூர் மூலட்டானம் பொருந்திய எம் பெருமானை
our Lord who dwells in Ārūr Mūlaṭṭāṉam which has prospering gardens.
பொருந்தார் சிந்தை அற்புதனை
who is nothingness in the minds of those who have no love towards him.

1. பாசூரும் பரங்குன்றும் மேயான் தன்னை

who is the brahmin among gods (who chants the vetams is another meaning)
தன் அடியார்க்கு எளியானை
who is easily accessible to his devotees.
மெய்ஞ் ஞான விளக்கானை

விரையே நாறும் போது இயலும் பொழில் ஆரூர் மூலட்டானம் புற்று இடங் கொண்டிருந்தானை

who is in tūṅkāṉai māṭam in peṇṇākaṭam which has a self-brilliant liṅkam.

the wall of sanctum sanctoram is apaidal in shape, like the backside of the elephant.]]
விடக்கு இடு காடு இடமாக உடையான் தன்னை
who has as his place where the burial corpses are left without burning or burying and where there is flesh.
மிக்க அரணம் எரியூட்ட வல்லான் தன்னை
who is capable of seting fire to the superior forts (மிக்கரணம் = மிக்க அரணம்)
மடல் குலவு பொழில் ஆரூர் மூலட்டானம் மன்னிய எம் பெருமானை
our god who dwelt permanently in mūlaṭṭāṉam in ārūr which has gardens in which the petals are shining.
மதியார் வேள்வி அடர்த்தவனை
who destroyed the sacrifice performed by tākkaṉ with the help of tevar who were afraid of takkan's power

மாயவனும் மலரவனும் வானோர் (உம்) ஏத்த மறிகடல் நஞ்சு உண்டு உகந்த மைந்தன் தன்னை
the strong youth who become superior when he consumed the poison of the ocean of rolling waves at the request of māyavaṉ, Piramaṉ who is seated in a (lotus) flower and the celestials

பொழில் ஆரூர் மேயவனை
who dwells with desire in ārūr which has gardens.
மூலட்டானம் விரும்பிய எம் பெருமானை

who existed before everything came into existence and performed their functions.

பொருள் இயல் நற்சொற்பதங்கள் ஆயினானை
Civaṉ who united with the meanings of words that are articulate and the inarticulate sounds
புகலூரும் புறம் பயமும் மேயான் தன்னை
who dwells with desire in pukalūr and puṟampayam
மருள் இயலும் சிந்தையர்க்கு மருந்து தன்னை
who is the medicine that cures the confusion of those who do not realise god as the real thing but think of other things that are unreal.
மறைக்காடும் சாய்க்காடும் மன்னினானை
who resides permanently in maṟaikkātu and caikkaṭu.
இருள் இயல் நற்பொழில் ஆரூர் மூலட்டானத்து இனிது அமரும் பெருமானை
the god who dwells with pleasure in mūlaṭṭāṉam in ārūr which has flourishing gardens which are always dark.
இமையோர் ஏத்த அருளியனை
who granted his grace when the celestials who do not wink; praised him.

who sits under the banyan tree which puts forth tender leaves like the coral;
