நெஞ்சே
my mind!
இடர் கெடுமாறு எண்ணுதியேல் நீ வா
come to me listen to me if you think your sufferings should be destroyed.
அலறா நில்
Keep on crying aloud.
ஈண்டு ஒளி சேர் கங்கைச் சடையாய் என்றும்
saying Civaṉ who has a very bright caṭai on which there is Kaṅkai!
சுடர் ஒளியாய் உள் விளங்கு சோதீ என்றும்
and the light divine which shines within you with increasing brightness!
தூ நீறு சேர்ந்து இலங்கு தோளாய் என்றும்
one who smears pure sacred ash which is shinning on the shoulders!
கடல்விடம் (அது) உண்டு இருண்ட கண்டா என்றும்
who has a neck having become black by consuming the poison that rose in the ocean
கலைமான் மறி ஏந்து கையா என்றும்
and one who holds in his hand a young stag.
அடல் விடையாய்! ஆரமுதே! ஆதீ என்றும்
saying `one who has a strong bull, rare nectar, the source of all things.'
ஆரூரா என்று என்று
and saying many times, the Lord in Ārūr.

நெஞ்சமே
my mind!
செடி ஏறு தீவினைகள் தீரும் வண்ணம் திண்ணமாக சிந்தித்தே
thinking with determination that the evil actions which are very sinful, should be destroyed.
பொடி ஏறு திருமேனி உடையாய் என்றும்
saying `you who have a holy body on which sacred ash is thickly smeared'!
புரந்தரன் தன் தோள் துணித்த புனிதா என்றும்
the pure one who cut the shoulders of Intiraṉ;

அடியேனை ஆளாக் கொண்டாய் என்றும்
who admitted me into your grace as your slave'.
அம்மானே, ஆரூர் எம் அரசே என்றும்
saying our father! our King in Ārūr!
கடி நாறு பொழில் கச்சிக் கம்பா என்றும்
saying `Kampā in Kacci which has gardens which spread their fragrance.'
கற்பகமே என்று என்றே (2) கதறா நில்
Keep on crying aloud saying many times `O Kaṟpakam'

my mind! come here.
நிலை பெறுமாறு எண்ணுதியேல்
if you thinking of having resting place for you.
நித்தலும் எம்பிரானுடைய கோயில் புக்கு
entering into the temple of our master, daily.
புலர்வதன் முன் அலகிட்டு
sweeping that place before day-break.
மெழுக்கும் இட்டு
cleanning the floor with cow-dung water.
பூமாலை புனைந்து, ஏத்தி, புகழ்ந்து பாடி
singing his fame praising him, and adorning him with flower-garlands.
1. தலை ஆரக்கும்பிட்டு
worshipping with joined hands placing them on the head.
கூத்தும் ஆடி
dancing out of ecstasy.
சங்கரா
one who does good!
சயபோற்றி போற்றி என்றும்
saying `may victory attend thee; Let you protect me; Let you protect me'.
அலைபுனல் சேர் செஞ்சடை எம் ஆதீ என்றும்
saying `our first cause to whose red catai moving water is attacked'
ஆரூரா என்று என்றே அலறா நில்
keep on crying aloud saying many times `the Lord in ārūr'

நெஞ்சமே
my mind!
புண்ணியமும் நன்னெறியும் ஆவது எல்லாம் இது (கண்டாய்)
this is what all includes the right path which leads to virtuous acts.
பொருந்தக்கேள்; நீ
you listen to what is suitable to you.
நுண்ணிய வெண்ணூல் கிடந்த மார்பா என்றும்
saying `one on whose chest a minute and white sacred thread is lying'
நுந்தாத ஒண் சுடரே என்றும்
the bright light divine which does not require trimming (நுந்தாத ஒண் சுடர் perpetual lamp)
நாளும்
daily
விண் இயங்கு தேவர்களும் வேதம் நான்கும் விரைமலர் மேல் நான் முகனும் மாலும் கூடி எண் அரிய
the tevar who move in heaven, the four vētams, Piramaṉ of four faces who is seated on a fragrant lotus flower and Māl joining together, cannot count in so many numbers.
திரு நாமம் உடையாய் என்றும்
`you who have a large number of sacred names'
எழில் ஆரூரா என்று என்றே ஏத்தா நில்
Be praising `many times' the Lord in ārūr which is beautiful'

நெஞ்சே
my mind.
இழைத்த நாள் எல்லை கடப்பது 1. அன்று ஆல்
you cannot live beyond the span of life which you are destined to live;
[[cf. இழைத்த நாள் எல்லை இகவா பிழைத்து ஒரீ இக், கூற்றம் குதித்து உய்ந்தார் ஈங்கு இல்லை (nālaṭuyar, 6)]]
இரவினொடு நண்பகலும் ஏத்தி வாழ்த்தி
praising and saying benedication during night and midday.
பிழைத்தது எலாம் பொறுத்தருள் செய் பெரியோய் என்றும்
saying `great god who forgives all the wrongs committed by me'
பிஞ்ஞகனே
saying god who adorns himself on the head with a peacocks `feather'
மைஞ்ஞவிலும் கண்டா என்றும்
saying `Civaṉ who has a neck like the cloud'.
அழைத்து அலறி
crying aloud with words that are marticulate

அடியேன் உன் அரணம் (கண்டாய்)
saying I your slave seek your protection.
அணி ஆரூர் இடம் கொண்ட அழகா என்றும்
saying `the beautiful god who has as his abode beautiful ārūr.'
குழற் சடை எம் கோன் என்றும் கூறு
and say `our King who has a catai with curls.'
என்மேல் குற்றம் இல்லை
I cannot be blamed
நான் கூறினேன்
I told you (if I do not tell you the blame will be mine; if you do not act according to my advice the blame will be yours)

நெஞ்சமே

1. நீப்பு அரிய பல் பிறவி நீக்கும் நினைந்திருந்தேன்
I was always thinking of getting rid of many births which are difficult to be rid of
சேப் பிரியா வெல் கொடியினானே என்றும்
saying `god who has a victorious flag which the bull never leaves!'
சிவலோக நெறி தந்த சிவனே என்றும்
saying, `Civaṉ who showed to the world the way to civalōkam.'
பூப் பிரியா நான் முகனும் புள்ளின் மேலைப் புண்டரிகக் கண்ணானும் போற்றி என்னத் தீப்பிழம்பாய் நின்றவனே (என்றும்)
saying `God who stood as a mass of fire to be praised by Piramaṉ of four faces who is found of the lotus flower and Māl who eyes are like red lotus and who rides on a bird (Karutaṉ) protect us'
செல்வம் மல்கும் திருவாரூரா என்றே (நித்தமாக)

நெஞ்சே! சிந்தி
my mind! daily fix your thoughts saying, `the Lord in tiruvārūr where wealth is increasing (நெஞ்சே is repeated twice for two separate purposes.)

நெஞ்சே
my mind!
பற்றி நின்ற பாவங்கள் பாற்ற வேண்டில்
if you want to destroy the sins which have you in their grip.
பரகதிக்குச் செல்வது ஒரு பரிசு வேண்டில்
and if you want a way to attain the supreme state of existence.
சுற்றி நின்ற சூழ்வினைகள் வீழ்க்க வேண்டில்
and if you want to cause the acts which surround you and conspire against you; fall down.
சொல்லுகேன்; கேள்
I shall give you advice; listen;.
துஞ்சா வண்ணம்
so that you may not meet with death.
உற்றவரும் உறுதணையும் நீயே என்றும்
saying `you yourself' are the relations and thick friends
உன்னை அல்லால் ஒரு தெய்வம் உள்கேன் என்றும்
and saying `I shall not think of any other god except you'
புற்று அரவக்கச்சு ஆர்த்த புனிதா என்றும்
and saying the pure god who tied as a belt the cobra that lives in the anthill!
பொழில் ஆரூரா என்றே போற்றா நில் (ஏ)
Be praising always saying `God in ārūr which has gardens'

மதி தருவன்
I shall give you sound advice.
உஞ்சு போக வழி ஆவது இது (கண்டாய்)
this is the way for saving yourself.
வானோர்க்கு எல்லாம் அதிபதியே ஆரமுதே, ஆதீ என்றும்
saying `the supreme Lord of the celestials, rare nectar, and the cause for all things'
அம்மானே
our father!
ஆரூர் எம் ஐயா என்றும்
and saying, our master in ārūr.
துதி செய்து
praising Civaṉ.
துன்று மலர் கொண்டு தூவி
scattering carrying flowers which fill the basket.
சூழும் வலம் செய்து
going from left to right round him.
தொண்டு பாடி
singing the grace he bestows on devotees.
கதிர் மதி சேர் சென்னியனே காலகாலா 1. கற்பகமே என்று என்றே கதறா நில்
Be crying aloud saying his names many times continuously; `one who attaches on his head a crescent emitting rays, one who deals death to the god of death himself and Kaṟpakam.

பரஞ்சோதி
Supreme being as the light divine!
பண்டரங்கா
Civaṉ who performed the dance, pāṇṭaraṅkam!
பாவநாசா
who destroy all sins!
தேசத்து ஒளி விளக்கே
the lamp that gives light to the living beings!
தேவதேவே
one who has the name of mākātēvaṉ!
திருவாரூர்த் திருமூலட்டானா என்றும்
saying, the Lord in tirumūlaṭṭaṉam in tiruvārūr!
நேசத்தை நீ பெருக்கி நேர் நின்று உள்கி
increasing your devotion being steady in the path of his grace, and thinking of him.
நித்தலும் சென்று அடிமேல் வீழ்ந்து நின்று ஏசற்று நின்று
going daily to the temple, falling at his feet and standing with shyness.
இமையோர் ஏறே என்றும்
the chief who is like the lion among celestials who do not wink.
எம் பெருமான் என்று என்றே ஏத்தா நில்
be praising uttering many times `our Lord!'
பாசத்தைப் பற்று அறுக்கல் ஆகும்
you can cut a sunder bondage and attachments (பாசத்தை - பற்றை).

my mind.
புலன்கள் ஐந்தால் ஆட்டுண்டு
being tossed by the five senses.
போது போக்கி
wasting your life (whiling away your precious life time)
புறம் புறமே திரியாதே 1. போது
without loafing away your time in extraneous activities, come to me (and listen to me)
சலம் கொள் சடைமுடி உடைய தலைவா என்றும்
saying the master who has on his caṭai water!
தக்கன் செய் பெருவேள்வி தகர்த்தாய் என்றும்
you who devastated the great sacrifice performed by takkaṉ!
2. இலங்கையர்கோன் சிரம் நெரித்த இறைவா என்றும்
saying the Lord who crushed the heads of the King of ilaṅkai!
எழில் ஆரூர் இடம் கொண்ட எந்தாய் என்றும்
saying our father who has his abode beautiful ārūr.
நலம் கொள் அடி என் தலை மேல் வைத்தாய் என்றும்
and saying you who placed on my head your beautiful feet.
நாள்தோறும் நவின்று ஏத்தாய்
praise him without stopping, with these names, daily.
நன்மை ஆம்
