பிறவாதே தோன்றிய பெம்மான் தன்னை
the god who came into existence out of his own volition
[[He was not born like other mortals]]
பேணாதார் அவர் தம்மைப் பேணாதானை
He does not like those who do not like him.
துறவாதே கட்டு அறுத்த சோதியானை
the light that rent asunder all bondage without going through the act of renunciation.
தூ நெறிக்கும் தூ நெறியாய் நின்றான் தன்னை
he was the exalted pure path even to the blemishless pure path.
திறமாய எத்திசையும் தானே ஆகி
Being himself all the directions which are of many kinds.
திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை

நிறம் ஆம் ஒளியானை
God who is the bright light
நீடூரானை

நீதனேன் நான் நினையா ஆறு என்னே
myself being low in character all these years, what a pity I did not think of him before!

முன் (தான்) உம் பின் (தான்) உம் ஆனான் தன்னை
one who is the past and present and directs them by being one with them
பித்தர்க்குப் பித்தனாய் நின்றான் தன்னை
one who is himself a maniac towards people who are mad after god, without desiring any other thing.
நன்று (ஆங்கு) அறிந்தவர்க்கும் தானே ஆகி
one who is himself the good thing for those who know what is good for them.
நல்வினையும் தீவினையும் ஆனான் தன்னை
one who is the good Karmam and bad Karmam.
[[People who commit the two kinds of Karmam reap the fruits of their Karmam which are pleasure adn pain]]
சென்று ஓங்கி விண் அளவும் தீயானானை
one who became the fire that rose high and touched the sky.
திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை

ஆய நீடூர் நின்று நிலாவினானை
one who stayed permanently in nīṭūr which is fitting to his greatness.
நீதனேன் நான் நினையாவாறு என்னே
myself being low in character all these years what a pity I did not think of him before!

எவ்விடத்தும் இல்லானை
one who is not omnipresent who try to see him with the physical eye.
எவ்விடத்தும் உள்ளான் தன்னை
one who is omnipresent who try to see him with inward illumination
இனிய நினையாதார்க்கு இன்னா தானை
one who inflicts sufferings on those who do not have good thoughts
வல் அடைந்தார்க்கு அருளும் வண்ணம் வல்லானை
one who is capable of granting his grace to those who reach him early in life.
மாட்டாதார்க்கு எத்திறத்தும் மாட்டாதானை
one who is indifferent to grant his grace in any way to those who cannot reach him early in life.
செல்லாத செந்நெறிக்கே செல்விப்பானை
one who causes us to tread the right path from which we are liable to swerve.

திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை

நெல் (ஆல்) வினை கழனி நீடூரானை
the god in nīṭūr which has paddy growing fields (ஆல் expletive)
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறே

கலை ஞானம் கல்லாமே கற்பித்தானை
one who taught me all arts without undergoing the tedious process of learning, staying within myself.
கடு நரகம் சாராமே காப்பான் தன்னை
one who prevents me from falling into the cruel hell.
பல ஆய வேடங்கள் தானே ஆகி
Being himself of many kinds of form.
பணிவார் கட்கு அங்கங்கே பற்று ஆனானை
one who has many dwelling places in many shrines to be useful to those who desire to worship him in their own places.
சிலையால் புரம் எரித்த தீ ஆடியை
one who danced in the fire when the world was destroyed and who burnt the three cities with a single bow.
திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை

நிலை ஆர் மணிமாடம் நீடூரானை
one who is in nīṭūr which has beautiful storeys of several floors
நிதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறே

நோக்காதே எவ்வளவும் நோக்கினானை
one who looked at things with the mental eye, without looking at them with the physical eye, with determination.
நணுகாதே யாதொன்றும் நுணுகினானை
one who is very minute even in the minutest object.
யாதொன்றும் ஆக்காதே ஆக்கினானை
one who created all things without much effort to create them, out of his resolve.
அணுகாதார் அவர் தம்மை அணுகாதானை
one who does not go near people who do not come near him
தேக்காதே
without loathing (nausea)
தெண் கடல் நஞ்சு உண்டான் தன்னை
one who drank the poison that rose in the clear sea.
திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை

நீக்காத பேரொளிசேர் நீடூரானை
the god in nīṭūr who has a brilliance which cannot be separated from him
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறு

பூண் அலாப் பூணானை
one who has ornaments that cannot be worn by any other person. (cobras are his ornaments)
பூசலாச் சாந்தம் உடையானை
one who has the sandal-paste of holy ash which cannot be smeared by any other person (The holy ash is from the cremation ground)
முடை நாறும் புன் கலத்தில் ஊண் அலா ஊணானை
one who eats his food from the low bowl which has the offensive odour of flesh, which is not at all fit for eating
ஒருவர்(உம்) காணா உத்தமனை
the supreme being who cannot be comprehended by anybody with his own intelligence.
ஒளி திகழும் மேனியானை
one who has a holy form whose brilliance is shining.
சேண் உலாம் செழும் பவளக் குன்று ஒப்பானை
one who can be compared to the hill of flawless coral, which is very high
திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை
civalōkaṉ who is in tiruppuṉkūr
நீண் உலாம் மலர்க் கழனி நீடூரானை
the god in nīṭūr which has fields in which flowers are abundant
[[நீள் changed into நீண் ;
cf. நீணுதல் செய் தொழிய campantar, piramapuram (1) 9).]]
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறு
Being myself a mean person all these years, what a pity I did not think of him before!

உரை ஆர் பொருளுக்கு உலப்பு இலானை
one who has no finality to the meanings of words.
ஒழியாமே 1. எவ்வுருவும் ஆனான் தன்னை
one who is in the form of all things wihtout exception.
புரையாய்க் கனமாய் ஆழ்ந்து ஆழாதானை
one who is naturally high, naturally weighty and is very naturally deep; but not sunk in anything.
2. புதியனவும் ஆய் மிகவும் பழையான் தன்னை
one who is new things and at the same time very old things
[[புதியனவும் ஆய் this should be changed into புதியன ஆயும்]]
[[புதியனவும் ஆய் மிகப் பழையான் : Though god is all things that are born again and again as cause and effect, he is not hidden in any thing which is invisible and concealed and is in a ruined inert state; he is the chief creator of all things.]]
திரையார் புனல் சேர் மகுடத்தானை
one who has a crown of matted hair on which water (of the Kaṅkai) with waves is staying.
திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை

நிரை ஆர் மணி மாடம் நீடூரானை
one who is nīṭūr which has rows of beautiful storeys.
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறு
Being myself a bow person all these years what a pity I did not think of him, before!

கூர் அரவத்து ஆணையானும்
(as) Māl who is sleeping on a serpent bed which is superior to other serpents.
குளிர் தண் பொய்கை மலரவனும் கூடிச் சென்று அறிய மாட்டார்
and Piramaṉ who is in a lotus which grows in the very cool tank, could not know though they combined their efforts to know him, by soaring high into the sky and digging into the earth; (குளிர் தண் பொய்கை is a generic epithet)
ஆர் ஒருவர் அவர் தன்மை அறிவார்
who is capable of knowing his real nature, if they both could not know it?
தேவர் அறிவோம் என்பார்க்கு எல்லாம் அறியல் ஆகாச்சீர் அரவக் கழலானை
one who has feet adorned with cobras of eminence which could not be known by all the tēvar who say, `we will know him'.

நிழல் ஆர் சோலைத் திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை
civalōkaṉ in tirupupṉkūr which has gardens with plenty of shade.
நீர் அரவத் தண் கழனி நீடூரானை
God in nīṭūr which has cool fields where the water flows with a rippling sound
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறு
Being myself a low person, all these years what a pity I did not think of him before!

கழுத்தே கிட்ட
to make the mouth reach the hands.
கை எலாம் நெய் பாயக்கால் நிமிர்த்து நின்று உண்ணும் கையர்
jains who have the habit of eating, in the standing posture stretching the legs, the ghee to flow throughout the hands.
[[As the jains eat their food from their hands using no plates, the fully stretched-out hands cannot go further higher than their chests. They eat in this manner so that the ghee may not overflow their hands and the food may not fall down. Stretching the legs is to relieve the pain caused by standing for a long time. Eating from the hands is with the purpose of not to develop any attachment to things and eating standing is meant not to develop any attachment to the place.]]
[[கையர் may also mean deceitful persons.]]
சொன்ன பொய் எலாம் மெய் என்று கருதிப் புக்குப் புள்ளுவரால் அகப்படாது உய்யப் போந்தேன்
I came out to save myself without being ensnared by those deceitful persons, as I entered into their company thinking of all the falsehood that they told me as absolute truth
[[புள்ளுவர்: hunters, deceitful person;
hunters cause animals and birds to come out of their hiding places by mimicry.]]
செய் எலாம் செழுங்கமலப் பழன வேலித் திருப்புன்கூர் மேவிய சிவலோகனை
God in Tiruppuṉkūr which is bounded by tanks of fertile lotus flowers and many fields.
நெய்தல் வாய்ப் புனற் படப்பை நீடூரானை
the god in Nīṭūr which has gardens with water in which white indian water lilies grow.
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையா ஆறு
Being myself a low persons, all these years what a pity that I did not think of him before!

ஏழை நெஞ்சே
my ignorant mind!
இகழாது பரந்து ஒன்றாய் நின்றான் தன்னை
without despising anything god who was the sole thing pervading everything and including them in his omnipresence
நகழ மால் வரைக்கீழ் அரக்கர் கோனை இட்டு
pressing the king of arakkar (iravaṇaṉ) under the mountain to suffer acute pain

நலன் அழித்து
and having destroyed his beauty.
நன்கு அருளிச் செய்தான் தன்னை
one who granted his grace in abundance
திகழும் மாமத கரியின் உரி போர்த்தானை
who covered himself with the skin of the eminent and big elephant which has musts.

நிகழுமா வல்லானை நீடூரானை
God who can follow his own will and who is in nīṭūr.
நீதனேன் நான் என்னே நினையாவாறு

இகழுமாறு எங்ஙனே
How can you afford to be negligent about him?
