you remained to be praised that all things are the form of Civaṉ who protect me.

எரிசுடராய் நின்ற இறைவா (போற்றி)
the master who is the burning light.
கொல் ஆர் மழுவாட்படையாய் (போற்றி)
who has a weapon of a battle-axe which can kill enemies!
கொல்லும் கூற்று ஒன்றை உதைத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you kicked one god of death who kills living beings!
கல்லாதார் காட்சிக்கு அரியாய் (போற்றி)
you are difficult to have a vision of you by those who have not learnt properly!
கற்றார் இடும்பை களைவாய் (போற்றி)
you will weed out the sufferings of learned people!
வில்லால் வியன் அரணம் எய்தாய் (போற்றி)
you discharged an arrow on the spacious fortifications from the bow.
வீரட்டம் காதல் விமலா (போற்றி)
the immaculate god who loves Vīraṭṭam!

you felt joy in eating your food from the skull

you dwells in the minds of those who meditate on you.

கார்மேகம் அன்ன மிடற்றாய் (போற்றி)
you have a neck resembling the black cloud

you have a visible form in which sacred ash is smeared from head to foot.
எல்லை நிறைந்தகுணத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you have qualities which have grace as their highest limit.
ஏழ் நரம்பின் ஓசை படைத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you possessed the music of the seven strings of the lute.
சில்லைச் சிரைத்ததலையில் ஊணா (போற்றி)
you eat from the skull which is without hairs, and is mean.
சென்று அடைந்தார் தீவினைகள் தீர்ப்பாய் (போற்றி)
you remove the evil acts of those who approach you and seek refuge in you.
தில்லைச் சிற்றம்பலம் மேயாய் (போற்றி)
you desired to dwell in ciṟṟampalam in tillai.
திருவீரட்டானத்து எம் செல்வா (போற்றி)
you are in vēraṭṭānam as the Lord who is the cause for all pleasures.

you adorned your chest with sacred ash.
தவநெறிகள் (2) சாதித்து நின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you fulfilled the paths of penance undertaken by your devotees, being helpful to that.
கூம்பித் தொழுவார் தம் குற்றேவலைக் குறிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் குழகா (போற்றி)
the youth who fixes the mind steadily on the menial service of those who worship you focussing their minds on you.
பாம்பும் மதியும் புனலும் தம்மில் பகை தீர்த்து உடன் வைத்த பண்பா (போற்றி)
you kept together the cobra, the crescent and the water removing their enmity.
ஆம்பல் மலர்கொண்டு அணிந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you adorned yourself with flowers of water-lily.

you have a blue neck in which the sacred ash is smeared thickly.
நிழல் திகழும் வெண் மழுவாள் வைத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you held in your hand a white battle-axe which is lustrous by its brightness.
கூறு ஏறு உமை ஒருபால் கொண்டாய் (போற்றி)
you had on one side Umai who is one half of you.
கோள் அரவம் ஆட்டும் குழகா (போற்றி)
the youth who causes a cruel cobra to dance?
ஆறு ஏறு சென்னி உடையாய் (போற்றி)
you have a head on which the river, Kaṅkai has risen!

you are as sweet as the rare nectar, to your devotees.
ஏறஏற என்றும் உகப்பாய் (போற்றி)
you always rejoice in riding on a bull.

our father in vīraṭṭam on the bank of the big Keṭilam.

you rejoice the songs of those who can sing.
பழையாற்றுப் பட்டீச்சுரத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you are in paṭṭiccuram which is a suburb of paḻaiyaṟu.
வீரவார் வீடு அருள வல்லாய் (போற்றி)
you are able to grant salvation to those who are capable of destroying attachments.
வேழத்து உரிவெருவப் போர்த்தாய் (போற்றி)
you covered yourself with the skin of elephant, to make even Umai frightened.
நாடுவார் நாடற்கு அரியாய் (போற்றி)
you are difficult to be investigated by those who search for you.
நாகம் அரைக்கு அசைத்த நம்பா (போற்றி)
Civaṉ who tied a cobra in the waist as a waist-cord.
ஆடும் ஆன்ஐந்தும் உகப்பாய் (போற்றி)
you desire bathing in the five products of the cow (the five products of the cow are milk, curd, ghee, urine and cow-dung)

you are the big ocean and the extensive space.
விண்துளங்க மும்மதிலும் எய்தாய் (போற்றி)
you discharged an arrow on the three forts to make the celestials tremble with fear.
வேழத்து உரி (1) மூடும் விகிர்தா (போற்றி)
you who are different from the world, cover yourself with the skin of an elephant!
பண் துளங்கப்பாடல் பயின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you practised singing, the melody-types to be eminent.
பார்முழுதும் ஆய பரமா (போற்றி)
the supreme god who pervades the whole of the earth.
கண்துளங்கக் காமனைமுன் காய்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you burnt long ago Kāmaṉ by moving the eye lids by opening the frontal eyes
கார்க்கெடிலம் கொண்ட கபாலீ (போற்றி)
God who holds a skull and has as his residence the shrine on the bank of the river Ketilam which is full of water.

you have as a vehicle a white bull of cruel anger.
விரிசடைமேல் வெள்ளம் படைத்தாய் (போற்றி)
you got the flood of Kaṅkai on the loosened caṭai.
துஞ்சாப் பலி தேரும் தோன்றாய் (போற்றி)
great person who obtains alms always without rest.
தொழுதகை துன்பம் துடைப்பாய் (போற்றி)
you will completely remove the sufferings as soon as one worships you;

நஞ்சு ஒடுங்கும் கண்டத்து நாதா (போற்றி)
the master in whose neck the poison is restrained!
நான்மறையோடு ஆறு அங்கம் ஆனாய் (போற்றி)
you are the four vetams and the six aṅkams.
அம்சொலாள் பாகம் அமர்ந்தாய் (போற்றி)
you desired as half a lady speaking beautiful words. (The beauty consists in being pleasing to the ear and bearing good).

Civaṉ who is the object of meditation!

you had in your mind Ciparppatam as your shrine. (this shrine is popularly known as cricailam in andhra pradesh)
புந்தியாய்ப் புண்டரிகத்து உள்ளாய் (போற்றி)
you are the lotus of the mind and dwell within it.
புண்ணியனே (போற்றி) புனிதா (போற்றி)
the embodiment of all virtues and the pure god!
சந்தியாய் நின்ற சதுரா (போற்றி)
the able god who is the three cantis ie. morning, noon and evening.
தத்துவனே (போற்றி) என் தாதாய் (போற்றி)
the ultimate reality ! my father !
அந்தியாய் நின்ற அரனே (போற்றி)
araṉ who is the evening!

you are the god who sits facing south!(this form is known as takkiṇāmurthy)
தருமா (போற்றி)
God who is justice and righteousness!
தத்துவனே (போற்றி)
the ultimate reality!

தொக்கு அணா என்று இருவர் தோள்கை கூப்பத்துளங்காது எரிசுடராய் நின்றாய் (போற்றி)
you stood as a burning fire without flickering when those two Māl and Piramaṉ conbined together and joined their hands and shoulders uttering, elder brother.
எக்கண்ணும் கண் இலேன்; எந்தாய் (போற்றி)
I have no other support to relieve my distress; my father (களைகண் may also mean refuge)

the Lord of the Universe who dwells in vīraṭṭam on the bank of the river, Keṭilam which throws waves.
