தவம் பெருகலாம்
one can increase one's penance
பேதைமை தீரலாம்
ignorance will vanish
திருகல் ஆகிய சிந்தை திருத்தலாம்
one can rectify the crookedness of the mind.
பருகலாம் பரம் ஆயது ஓர் ஆனந்தம்
one can enjoy the supreme happiness.
மருகலான் அடி வாழ்த்தி வணங்கவே
if one praises, and pays obeisance, to the feet of Civaṉ in Marukal.

பாடம் கொள் பனுவல் திறம் கற்றுப்போய்
being well-versed in the different kinds of words which are to be committed to memory.
நாடு அங்கு உள்ளன தட்டிய நாண் இலீர்
People who have no sense of shame, who defeated scholars travelling in many countries!
மாடம் சூழ் மருகற் பெருமான் திருவேடம் கை தொழ வீடு எளிது ஆகும்
liberation will be easy of attainment if one worships with joined hands the holy form of Lord in marukal which is surrounded by mansions

சினத்தினால் வரும் செய்தொழில் ஆம் அவை அனைத்தும் நீங்கி நின்று
giving up all actions that spring from anger
ஆதரவாய்
with great love.
மனத்தினால் மருகற் பெருமான் திறம் நினைப்பினார்க்கு இல்லை நீள் நில வாழ்க்கை
life in this world will not be for those who meditate in their minds the benign nature of the Lord in Marukal
[[They will live in Civalōkam enjoying bliss.]]

ஓதுபைங்கிளிக்கு ஒண்பால் அமுது 1. ஊட்டி
feeding the green parrots which repeats what is taught, with the food of good milk.
பாதுகாத்து
protecting it from its enemies.
பல பல கற்பித்து
teaching it very many things
மாது தான் மருகற் பெருமானுக்குத் தூது 2. சொல்லத் தான் தொடங்குமே
this lady begins to send it to carry some message as messengers to the Lord in marukal

இன்னவாறு உண்டு என்பது அறியேன்
I do not know the way to cure this girl's sufferings.
துன்னு கை வளை சோரக் கண்ணீர் மல்கும்
the tight-fitting bangles worn on the hand slip down; tears fill her eyes.
மன்னு தென் மருகற் பெருமான் திறம் உன்னி ஒண் கொடி உள்ளம் உருகும்
thinking of the nature of the Lord in marukal who is permanent there the heart of this girl who wears bright bangles, melts.

சங்கு சோர கலையுஞ் சரியவே மங்கை தான் மருகற் பெருமான் வரும் அங்க வீதி அருகு நாளும் அணையா நிற்கும்
the young girl daily approaches by the side of the important street where the Lord in marukal comes, her bangles to slip down and her dress to slip away.

மாட்சி ஆர் மருகற் பெருமானுக்குத் தாழ்ச்சி சால உண்டாகும் என் தையல்
my young daughter has developed desire towards the Lord in marukal who is full of glory.
காட்சி பெற்றிலன் ஆகிலும்
though she has not obtained sight of him.
காதலே மீட்சி ஒன்று அறியாது மிகுவது
her love increasing without her mind knowing any way to return to her.
[[In the fourth line the form தாட்சி would be in keeping with the other three lines for rhyme;
வரன் முறை மனப்படும் மதியோர், தாட்சி செய்யனும் அனையர்பாள் அணுகுமோ தவறு (kantapurāṇam, tirunakarappaṭalam, 22)]]

நீடு நெஞ்சுள் நினைந்து கண்ணீர் மல்கும்
(my daughter) is full of tears in here eyes thinking of Civaṉ in her mind for a long time.
ஓடும் மாலினோடு
with the confusion of mind which makes her run after Civaṉ.
ஒண் கொடி மாதராள்
this girl who wears bright bracelets.
மாடம் நீள் மருகற் பெருமான் வரின் கூடு நீ என்று கூடல் இழைக்கும்
will draw loops on sand saying, Both your ends should join if the Lord in marukal which has tall storeys, comes to me
[[கூடற் பெருமானைக் கூடலார் கோமானைக் கூடப் பெறுவனேல் கூடு என்று - கூடல், இழைப்பாள் போல் காட்டி இழையாதிருக்கும், பிழைப்பின் பிழைபாக்கு அறிந்து (muttoḷḷāyiram).;
There are two versions about this கூடல்;
(1) The love-lorn lady will draw loops on sand closing her eyes; if two ends meet she will be satisfied that her lover would return.;
(2) The love-lorn lady will draw many loops within a big circle and when counting them if the number is odd it is auspicious; if it is a even number it is otherwise;
நீத்து அகன்றார் வரு கென்று ஆழி திருத்திச் சுழிக்கணக்கு ஓதிநையாமல் (Kōvaiyār, 186); this quotation supports the latter version);
பாடல் ஆக்கிடும் பெண்ணொடு; பெண் இவள், கூடல் ஆக்கிடும் குன்றின் மணற்கொடு (nāvukkaracar, tirukkōḻampam, 4)]]

காரிகை கரந்தவார் குழல் கட்டிலள்
this beautiful girl has not tied her long and fragrant tresses of hair into a knot
1. அந்திமால் விடையோடும் அன்பாய் மிக வந்திடாய் மருகற் பெருமான் என்று
saying, `will you not come in the evening on the big bull with great love'.
சிந்தை செய்து திகைத்திடும்; காண்மின்
she becomes confounded thinking of Civaṉ; you please see this.

ஆதி மாமலை அன்று எடுத்தான் இற்றுச் சோதி என்றலும்
when the arkkaṉ lifted the pre-eminent great mountain in the distant past, and broke his body exclaimed, effulgent light.
தொல் அருள் செய்திடும் ஆதியான் மருகற் பெருமான் திறம் 1. ஓதி வாழ்பவர்
those who lead a life uttering the nature of the Lord in marukal and the first cause who granted his ancient graces.
உம்பர்க்கும் உம்பர்
are celestials who are worshipped by the residents in heaven.
