wearing a curved and big crescent.
ஓர் கோவணம் நாண் இல் வாழ்க்கை நயந்தும்
though desiring a life without shame wearing a men's loin cloth.
பயன்நிலை
Civaṉ is the stand for all benefits.
(1) பாணில் வீணை பயின்றவன்
among music of several instruments he practises on vīṇai;

Civan who is in the form of music.
பவளத்திரள் மாமணி அண்ணலை
the god who is like the heap of coral which is one of the nine gems.
அமரர் தொழும் ஆதியை
the first cause whom the immortals worship with joined hand.
சுண்ண வெண் பொடியான் வீரட்டம் நண்ணில் அல்லது என் கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
unless I reach vīraṭṭam of Civaṉ who smears sacred ash as scented power, will my eyes get sleep?

{$} உற்றவர் தம் நோய் களைபவர்
Civaṉ who weeds out the many afflictions of those who reach him as their support.
பெற்றம் ஏறும்பிறங்கு சடையினர்
who rides on a bull and has a shining caṭai.
சுற்றும் பாய்புனல் சூழ்தரு வீரட்டம் கற்கில் அல்லது என்கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
unless I learn about his vīraṭṭam surrounded by water which flows on all sides, will my eyes get sleep?

{$} முற்றா வெண்மதி சூடும் முதல்வனார்
the first cause who wears a white crescent.
செற்றார் வாழும் திரிபுரம் தீ எழ வில்தான் கொண்டு எயில் (1) எய்தவர் வீரட்டம் கற்றால் அல்லது
unless I learn about vīraṭṭam of the Lord who shot an arrow on the forte by using a bow to set a blaze the three cities in which the enemies resided.
என்கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
will my eyes get sleep
[[though the destruction of the three cities is a valourous act of Civaṉ it gains added significane as atikai is the place where that valourous act was performed; பூமன் சிரம் கண்டி; அந்தகன் கோவல், புரம் அதிகை மாமன் பறியல் சலந்தரன் விற்குடி; மாவழுவூர்; காமன் குறுக்கை; நமன் கடவூர்; இந்தக் காசினியில், தேமன்னு கொன்றைச் சடையான் பொருதிட்ட சேவகமே (old verse) Kantiyūr is the place where one of the five heads of Piramaṉ was severed; Kōvālūr is the place where the acuraṉ, antakaṉ was killed; the destruction of the three cities took place in atikai; takkaṉ's sacrifice was devastated in paṟiyalūr; the acuraṉ calantaraṉ was killed in vīṟkuṭi; the elephant was flayed in vaḻuvūr; Kamaṉ (cupid) was burnt at Kuṟukkai; the god of death was killed in Kaṭavūr; these are the eight valourous acts of Civaṉ and the places where they took place.]]

Civaṉ to whom many people of this world and immortals pay homage
நல்லாரும் நயந்து ஏத்தப்(1) படுபவன்
who is praised with devotion by good people also.
வில்லால் மூஎயில் எய்தவன் வீரட்டம் கல்லேன் ஆகில் என் கண்துயில் கொள்ளுமே
unless I learn about vīraṭṭam of Civaṉ who shot an arrow from the bow on the three forts, will my eyes get sleep?

Civaṉ held in his growing caṭai koṉṟai flowers on which bees hum, datura flowers, a beautiful crescent and a cobra.
விண்டார் மும்மதில் எய்தவன் வீரட்டம் கண்டால் அல்லது என் கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
will my eyes get sleep unless I weep on behalf of the eminent Vīrattam where the god who smears fragrant sacred ash and who is on the bank of the Keṭilam whose water flows having waves during its course.

will my eyes get sleep unless I weep on behalf of the eminent vīrattam where the god who smears fragrant sacred ash and who is on the bank of the Keṭilam whose water flows having waves during its course.

the spotless god who smears on his big shoulders sacred ash.
ஆறுடைப் புனல் பாய் கெடிலக் கரை ஏறு உடைக்கொடியான் திருவீரட்டம் கூறில் அல்லது என் கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
will my eyes get sleep unless I speak about Tiruvīrattam where on the bank of the river Keṭilam whose water always flows, the Lord who has a flag of a bull dwells?

{$} செங்கண் மால் விடை ஏறிய செல்வனார்
the god who rode on a big bull with red eyes.
பைங்கண் ஆணையின் ஈர்உரி (1) போர்த்தவர்
who covered himself with the skin wet with blood of an elephant of tender eyes.
அம்கண் ஞாலம் (அது) ஆகிய வீரட்டம் (2) கங்குல் ஆக என் கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
will my eyes get sleep when night comes unless I see Vīraṭṭam where Civaṉ who pervades the world of beautiful places, dwells?

the Lord who has ornaments, waist-cord and garlands suited to him.

will my eyes get sleep unless I see Vīraṭṭam of Civaṉ who discharged an arrow on the three forts of the enemies using the Meru mountain as a bow and Vācuki as the bow-string?

{$} வரை ஆர்ந்த வயிரத்திரள் மாணிக்கம்; திரை ஆர்ந்த புனல்பாய் கெடிலக்கரை விரையார் (1) நீற்றன் விளங்கிய வீரட்டம், உரையேனாகில் என் கண் துயில் கொள்ளுமே
will my eyes get sleep unless I speak about the shining viraṭṭam of Civaṉ who smears fragrant sacred ash which is on the bank of Keṭilam whose water flows with waves which has heaps of diamonds and rubis which are in plenty in the mountain.

வலம் தான் (1) மிக்க அவ்வாள் அரக்கன்தனைச் சிலம்பு ஆர் சேவடி ஊன்றினான் வீரட்டம் புலம்பேனாகில்
unless I utter repeatedly vīraṭṭam where Civaṉ who fixed firmly his foot in which the anklet sounds, on that cruel arakkaṉ who had excessive strenght.
