{$} மாது இயன்று மனைக்கு இரு என்றக்கால்
If I say, ``stay in the house, possessing the qualities of womanhood''

நீதிதான் சொல நீ எனக்கு ஆர் எனும்
she says, who are you to advise me right conduct?
என்தையல்
my young daughter.
சோதி ஆர்தரு தோணிபுரவர்க்குத், தாதி நான் ஆவன் என்றும்
says, I would become the maid-servant of the effulgent Lord in Tōṇipuram.

To take away the white bangles of my young daughter who has much desire towards the Lord who asked, give me alms, coming naked.
தொக்கநீர்வயல் 1. தோணி புரவர்க்குத், தமது பெருமைக்குத் தக்கது அன்று
does not fit with the greatness of the Lord in Tōṇipuram which has fields which have plenty of water,

even after seeing the Lord along with the daughter of Imavāṉ, who has eyes like keṇtai (a fresh-water fish), and who has long tresses of hair on which bees settle.
தோணி புரவரைக் காமுறுகின்றனள் கன்னியே
my unmarried daughter desires the Lord in Tōṇipuram.

{$} பாலையாழ்மொழியாள் அவள்
that lady (Kaṅkai) who has sweet words like the music produced in pālaiyāḻ
தாழ்சடை, மேலள் ஆவது கண்டனள் தையல்
my young daughter saw her to be on the caṭai which falls low.
விண் உறச், சோலை ஆர்தரு தோணிபுரவர்க்குச், சால நல்லள் ஆகின்றனள்
has become very strong in love with the Lord in Tōṇipuram which has gardens to touch the sky.

{$} பண்ணின் நேர் மொழியாள், பலி இட்ட இப், பெண்ணை மால் கொடு பெய்வளை கொள்வது
snatching away the bangles worn by this girl who speaks as sweet as melody and went to give alms, by making her infatuated with love.
தோணிபுரத்து உறை, சுண்ணம் ஆடிய அண்ணலாருக்குச் சால அழுகிதே?
is it comely for the eminent god who resides in Tōṇipuram and who smears himself with the sacred ash?

{$} முல்லை வெண்நகை மொய் குழலாய்
Girl who has very close tresses of hair, and teeth as white as the flowers of mullai (arabian jasmine)!
உனக்கு, அல்லன் ஆவது நீ அறிந்திலை
you did not understand that the Lord is too great a person to receive you.
கனி ஆர்பொழில், தொல்லைத் தோணிபுரவர்க்கே நங்கையே! நல்லை ஆயிடுகின்றனை
Girl of distinction! you become good only to the Lord in ancient Tōṇipuram which has parks of abundant fruits.

{$} உலகத்தவர் ஒன்றுதான் அறியார்
The people of this world do not know the reason for the melody of the girl, which is different by nature.
நின்று சொல்லி
standing before the girl infatuated with love, and giving her advice.
1. நிகழ்ந்த நினைப்பிலர்
had no thought why and how it happened to her.
துன்றுவார் பொழில் தோணிபுரவர் தம் கொன்றை சூடும் குறிப்பு அது ஆகும்
The reason for her love-sickness is adorning herself with the koṉṟai flowers belonging to the Lord in Tōṇipuram surrounded by long and dense parks.

He has in his body a lady who is as tender as a creeper.
துறைகள் ஆர்கடல் தோணிபுரத்து உறை, இறைவனார்க்கு இவன் என்கண்டு அன்பு ஆவது
what did this girl find in the Lord who resides in Tōṇipuram which has a sea where there are many ghats, to fall in love with?

when the young ladies who have breasts like the tusk of the elephant which resembles the cloud in colour.

I too who am her friend was going in the way my talaivi went.
தோகை ஆர்தரு தோணி புரவர்க்கே யானும் அவர்க்கு இனி ஆளதே ஆக
Let me also become the protege of the Lord in Tōṇipuram which is full of peacocks.

{$} கட்டம் பேசிய கார் அரக்கன் தனைத்துட்டு அடக்கிய தோணிபுரத்து உறை அட்டமூர்த்துக்கு அன்பு (அது) ஆகி
having fallen in love with the Lord who has eight forms who resides in Tōṇipuram and who curbed the mischief of the black arakkaṉ who spoke proud words of no avail.

my daughter who is as tender as a creeper will do only, things which she desires.
