ஏழைகாள்
ignorant people!
கொல்ல (த்தான்) நமனார் தமர் வந்தக்கால்
when the messengers of the god of death come to take away your lives.
இல்லத்தார் செய்யல் ஆவது என்?
what is that which people in the house (wife and sons) can do to prevent it?
நல்லத்தான்
Civaṉ in Nallam.
நமை ஆள் உடைய என் கழல் சொல்ல (த்தான்) வல்லிரேல் துயர் தீரும்
your sufferings will cease if you are capable of praising the feet of one who has us as his protege.

{$} (ஏழைகாள் ignorant people!)
பொக்கம் பேசிப் பொழுது கழியாதே
without wasting your life talking all kinds of lies.
துக்கம் தீர் வகை செல்லுவன்
I shall tell you the way to remove your sufferings.
கேண்மின் (ஓ)
please listen to me.
தக்கன் வேள்வி தகர்த்த தழல் வண்ணன்
Civaṉ who has the colour of fire and who devastated the sacrifice of takkaṉ.
நக்கன்
and who is naked.
சேர் நல்லம் நண்ணுதல் நன்மையே
it is good for you to reach nallam in which he dwells.

பிணி கொள் வார் குழற் பேதையர் காதலால் பணிகள் மேவிப் பயன் இலை
there is no good if you do the commands of the women, on account of the love that you place on them who have long tresses of hair which captivate your minds by their beauty.

sinners!
அணுகவேண்டில் அரன் நெறி ஆவது
if you wish to follow it is only the path shown by araṉ.
நாதன் நகர் நல்லம் நணுகும்
you reach nallam, the city of the master.
[[பிணிகொள் வார் குழல் may also mean long tresses of hair tied into a knot.]]

தமக்கு நல்லது தம் உயிர் போனால்
if your life leaves the useless body it is good for you. (தமக்கு -: the 3rd person is used in the sense of 2nd person pronoun).
இக்குரம்பை (தான்) இமைக்கும் போதும் இராது
This body will not be stable even for a small time taken for the winking of the eye
உமைக்கு நல்லவன் (தான்) உறையும் பதி
the place where the husband of Umai dwells.
நல்லம் அடைவது நமக்கு நல்லது
it is good for us to reach his nallam and worship him there.

உரை தளர்ந்து உடலார் நடுங்கா முனம்
before the body quivers nd the speech falters (due to old age).
நரை விடை உடையானிடம் நல்லமே பரவுமின்
(people of this world!) praise nallam, the place of Civaṉ who has a white bull
[[உடலார்: ஆர் is used to disparage the body]]
பணி மின்
Bow before it
பணிவாரொடு விரவுமின்
join those who bow to it.
விரவாரை விடுமின்
leave the company of those who do not join in worship.

அல்லல் ஆக ஐம்பூதங்கள் ஆட்டினும்
even if the five elements harass us to give us sufferings.
வல்லவாறு சிவாய நம என்று நல்லம் மேவிய நாதன் அடி தொழ
if we worship the feet of the master who dwells in nallam, uttering Civaya nama' (his mantiram) according to our ability.
வெல்லவந்த வினைப் பகை வீடும்
the enemy of Karmams which came to conquer us will meet with destruction.
(People of this world!)

மாதராரொடு மக்களும் சுற்றமும் பேதமாகிப் பிரிவதன் முன்னமே
before your wife, children and relations disagree with you and go away from you.
நாதன் மேவிய நல்லம் நகர் தொழப் போதுமின், எழுமின்
start and go to worship the city of nallam where the master, Civaṉ dwells.
புகல் ஆகுமே
he is our refuge.

நம்மை ஆள் உடையான் இடம் நல்லம் சும்மை ஆர் மலர் தூவித் தொழுமின்
(people of this world!) worship scattering flowers on which bees hum loudly, nallam, the place of Civaṉ who has us as his protege
[[சும்மை = சுமை the ம் may be taken as an augmentation; சுமை will mean loads.]]
வெம்மையான வினைக் கடல் நீங்கி நீர் செம்மை ஆய சிவகதி சேரலாம்
you can attain eternal bliss which is the right thing, having crossed the cruel ocean of Karmams.

காலம் ஆன கழிவதன் முன்னமே
before the remaining life passes away.
ஏலு மாறு வணங்கி நின்று ஏத்துமின்
praise for a long time bowing, according to your capacity.
மாலும் மாமலரானொடு மாமறை நாலும் வல்லவர் கோன் இடம் நல்லம்
nallam, the place of the Lord of those who are well-versed in the great four vetams, Piramaṉ in the big (lotus) flower and Māl.

மல்லை மல்கிய தோள் அரக்கன் வலி ஒல்லையில் ஒழித்தான் உறையும் பதி
the place where Civaṉ who quickly destroyed the strength of the arakkaṉ who had shoulders of increasing greatness.
[[மல்லை-பெருமை greatness;
மல்லைக்கடல் மல்லைத் தலசயனம் (periya tirumoḻi, 2-6-6);
மல்லைச் செல்வ வடமொழி மறைவாணர் (tiruvāimoḻi, 8-9-8);
மல்லல் கடைக் குறைந்து ஐகாரம் விரிந்து நின்றது (Kōvaiyār, 368, pērāciriyar's commentary)]]
நல்ல நல்லம் எனும் பெயர் நாவினால் சொல்ல வல்லவர் தூநெறி சேர்வர்
those who are capable of saying with their tongues the name of good Nallam will attain blemishless eternal bliss.
