{$} கொள்ளும் காதன்மை எய்துறும் கோல்வளை
this girl who wears a collection of bangles and who has the nature of having fallen in love with Civaṉ
வள்ளல் மாமயிலாடுதுறை உறை வெள்ளம் தாங்கு சடையனை வேண்டியே
desiring Civaṉ who supports the flood in his caṭai and the person of unbounded literality who dwells in the great Mayilāṭutuṟai.
உள்ளம் உள்கித்திருப்பெயர் உரைக்கும்
always utters his name thinking of him in her mind.

{$} பால் மதிவைத்த மா மயிலாடுதுறை அரன் கொத்தினிற்பொலி கொன்றை கொடுக்கில்
if Araṉ who dwells in the great Mayilāṭutuṟai and who places on his head a crescent as white as milk, gives the koṉṟai shining in the bunches worn by him
என் பைங்கொடி
my girl who is as tender as a green creeper
சித்தம் தேறும்
will become clear in her mind
செறிவளைசிக்கெனும்
will wear her bangles tightly which were once tight, as her body will swell in size out of joy.
பச்சை தீரும்
has sallownes will also disappear

{$} வண்டுசேர் மயிலாடுதுறை அரன்
Araṉ who dwells in Mayilāṭutuṟai where bees swarm
தொண்டர் பாதங்கள் சூடித்துதையிலே
If I come into close contact with devotees, wearing their feet in my head.
அண்டர் வாழ்வும் அமரர் இருக்கையும் கண்டுவீற்றிருக்கும் கருத்து ஒன்று இலோம்
I do not have the slightest idea of sitting majestically and seeing the pleasures of the position of the celestials and residing in heaven.

{$} மஞ்சள்
God of great strength
மயிலாடுதுறை அஞ்சலாள் உமைபங்கன் அருளிலே
if Civaṉ who has Umai who has the name of Añcalāḷ and who dwells in Mayilāṭutuṟai grants his grace.
வெஞ்சினக் கடுங்காலன் விரைகிலான்
the dreaded Kālaṉ of cruel anger will not hasten to take our lives.
(1) அஞ்சு இறப்பும் பிறப்பும் அறுக்கலாம்
we can completely destroy death and birth which are dreadful.

{$} கறை நிலாவிய கண்டன் எண் தோளினன்
Civaṉ who has a neck in which the black colour is prominent and has eight shoulders.
மறைவலான் மயிலாடுதுறை உறை இறைவன் நீள்கழல் ஏத்தி இருக்கில்
if we praise the feet which do not know destruction, of the Lord who dwells in Mayilāṭutuṟai and who is well-versed in the vētams
கொடுமாநுட வாழ்க்கையால் குறைவு இலோம்
we will not have anything wanting in the cruel human life.

{$} நிலைமை சொல்லும் நெஞ்சே!
my mind which is always taking about his benign nature!
கலைகள் ஆயவல்லான்
Civaṉ who is well-versed in what are called arts
[[ஆய-ஆயன; ஆய்வதற்கு in the former meaning it is a personal noun in the form of a finite verb, in the latter it is verbal participle]]
கயிலாய நன் மலையன்
who is in the mountain of Kayilāyam
மா மயிலாடு துறையன்
and who is in the great Mayilāṭutuṟai
நம் தலையின் மேலும் மனத்துளும் தங்க தவம் என் செய்தாய்
what is the penance you performed for that Lord to stay in our head and in the mind?

{$} நீற்றினான்
Civaṉ who smears himself with holy ash
நிமிர்புன்சடையான்
who has a ruddy caṭai standing upright
விடை ஏற்றினான்
who has a bull
நமை ஆள் உடையான்
who owns us as his slave
புலன் மாற்றினான்
who changed the course of the senses of the body
மயிலாடுதுறை என்று போற்றுவார்க்கும் உண்டோ புவி வாழ்க்கையே
will there be birth hereafter in this world even for those who praise Mayilāṭutuṟai of the god?

{$} கோலும் புல்லும் ஒருகையில் கூர்ச்சமும் தோலும் பூண்டு துயரம் உற்று என் பயன்
what is the use of undergoing suffering by wearing deer's skin, and carrying the bundle of darbhā grass, (kaus), tied into a knot, and the sacred gress, (kaus) and the staff?
நீல மா மயிலாடுதுறையனே
god who is in the great Mayilāṭutuṟai which appears blue in colour!
நுண் உணர்ந்தோர்கட்கு நூலும் வேண்டுமோ
Do people who have perceived the truth very keenly require books which are aids to realise god?
[[I have my own doubt whether this verse is the composition of Appar; generally his decades consist of ten verses occasionally it exceeds that limit; moreover it is a veiled attack on brahmins whose citadel was Mayilāṭutuṟai]]

{$} பணம் கொள் ஆடு அரவு அல்குல் பகீரதி மணம் கொளச் சடை வைத்த மறையவன்
the brahmin who placed on his caṭai Pakīrati who has a waist like dancing cobra's hood, to receive the fragrance of the flowers on the caṭai.
வணங்கு மா மயிலாடுதுறை அரன்
Araṉ in Mayilāṭutuṟai which got that name as Umai worshipped Civaṉ in the form of a peacock
அணங்கு ஓர் பால் கொண்ட கோலம் அழகிதே
the external appearance of Araṉ who had a divine damsel on one half is exceedingly beautiful

{$} நீள் நிலா அரவச் சடை நேசனைப் பேணிலாதவர் பேதுறவு ஓட்டினோம்
we drove away the bewilderment of those who did not desire Civaṉ who is food of having in his caṭai a cobra, and a long crescent.
வாள் நிலா மயிலாடுதுறைதனைக் காணில் ஆர்க்கும் கடுந்துயர் இல்லையே
there will not be acute sufferings for anyone who has visited Mayilāṭutuṟai whose fame has spread everywhere.

{$} பருத்ததோளும் முடியும் பொடிபட இருத்தினான்
Civaṉ who pressed down the bulky shoulders and heads (of Irāvaṇaṉ) to be broken.
அவன் இன்னிசை கேட்டலும் வரத்தினான் மயிலாடுதுறை தொழும் (1) கரத்தினார் வினைக்கட்டு அறும்; காண்மின்
the bondage of karmams of those who worship with joined hands Mayilāṭutuṟai of Civaṉ who granted boons as soon as he heard his music; you know this.
