பருவரால் வயல் சூழ்ந்த பழனத்தான்
Civaṉ in Paḻaṉam surrounded by fields abounding in big murrel fish.
அருவனாய் அத்தி ஈர் உரி போர்த்து உமை உருவனாய் ஒற்றியூர் பதி ஆகிலும்
Though formless and having Umai on his sacred body covering it with the skin of an elephant wet with blood, his place is Oṟṟiyūr

இத்தேவர்க்கு
from this god
திருவினால் திருவேண்டும்
(people) ask for liberation, doing services with the help of wealth.

சிலர் ஆதர்கள்
some who are mentally blind
வையம் வந்து வணங்கி வலம் கொளும் ஐயனை அறியார்
do not know the master who is adored and circumambulated by the people of this world having come to paḻaṉam
பை கொள் ஆடு அரவு ஆர்த்த பழனன்பால் பொய்யர் காலங்கள் போக்கிடுவார்களே
some will waste their lives without worshipping Civaṉ in paḻaṉam who has tied securely a dancing cobra which has a hood

வண்ணமாக முறுக்கிய வாசிகை திண்ணமாகத் திருச்சடை சேர்த்தி
Having attached securely in the holy catai a garland of flowers strung thickly together and twisted, to appear beautiful.
பண்ணும் ஆகவே பாடும் பழனத்தான் அவன் ஆயிரம் நாமமே நீர் எண்ணுமின்
you think of the thousand names of Civaṉ in paḻaṉam who sings music distinguishing the different melodies. (எண்ணுமின் may also mean count)

1. மூர்க்கப் பாம்பினைப் பிடித்து அது மூச்சிட
Having caught hold of a wrathful cobra and to make it hiss loudly
வாக்கப் பாம்பினைக் கண்ட துணிமதி பாக்க
the crescent which saw the cobra of perfect shape, to be always gazing at it with fear
பாம்பினைப் பற்றும் பழனத்தான் தார்க் கொள் மாலை சடைக்கு 2. அணிந்திட்டதே
what is the reason for Civaṉ in paḻaṉam who holds a cobra to adorn his caṭai with koṉṟai garlands and other garlands?

நீலம் உண்ட மிடற்றினன்
Civaṉ has a blue neck
நேர்ந்தது ஓர் கோலம் உண்ட குணத்தால் நிறைந்தது ஓர் பாலும் உண்டு
he has on one half a lady who has full of many good qualities and has beauty befitting him
பழனன் பால் என்னிடை மாலும் உண்டு இறை என் மனத்துளே
There is also a little bewilderment in my mind towards with Civaṉ in paḻaṉam

பந்தமாயின தீர்க்கும் பழனத்தான்
Civaṉ in paḻaṉam who destroys all earthly attachments.
மந்தமாகவளர் பிறைசூடி
having as an adornment a crescent growing slowly
ஓர் சந்தமாகத் திருச்சடை சாத்துவான்
wears on his holy caṭai a garland
எந்தை தாய் தந்தை எம் பெருமானுமே
is my real father, for my life, and mother and father who gave me this body and brought it up, and my master

பார்க்க நின்று பரவும் பழனத்தான் தாட்கண் நின்று தலை வணங்கார்களே
those who do not bow their heads at the feet of the Lord in paḻaṉam who grants his grace to those who praise him so that his benign look may fall on them, to be seen by all.
மார்க்கம் ஒன்று அறியார் மதியில்லிகள்
those who have no intelligence do not know any right path
பூக்கரத்தில் புரிகிலர் மூடர்கள்
and some stupid persons will not worship him by carrying flowers in their hands.

ஏறினார் இமையோர்கள் பணி கண்டு, தேறுவார் அலர் தீவினையாளர்கள்
some sinful persons will not clear thier doubts in their minds even after seeing the tēvar rise in status by their service to Civaṉ
பாறினார் பணி வேண்டும் பழனத்தான் உமையாளொடும் கூடவே கூறினான்
Civaṉ in paḻaṉam who desires even the services of low people has one half of his body united with Umai also.

சுற்றுவார் தொழுவார் சுடர் வண்ணன்
devotees will surround and praise with joined hands Civaṉ who has the hue of fire

தெற்றினார் திரியும் புரம் மூன்று எய்தான்
destroyed the wandering three cities of the quarrelsome enemies by discharging an arrow.

பொங்கு மாகடல் சூழ் இலங்கைக்கு இறை அங்கம் ஆன இறுத்து அருள் செய்தவன்
Civaṉ who granted his grace after crushing the limbs of the King of ilaṅkai surrounded by the big sea with surging waves
உமையொடும் என்றும் பழனன் பங்கன்
Civaṉ in paḻaṉam has always Umai as his half
அடியேனுடை உச்சி 1. தான் தங்கன்
he placed his feet to stay on his devotee's head.
