ignorant mind!
கொல்லை ஏற்றினர்
Civaṉ who has a bull that lives in the forest region.
கோள் அரவத்தினர்
has a cobra which is capable of killing.
தில்லைச் சிற்றம்பலத்து உறை செல்வனார்
is the god who dwells in Ciṟṟampalam in Tillai.
தொல்லை ஊழியர்
who has seen many aeons.
சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே வல்லையாய்ப் பணி செய்
Do service to Civaṉ himself in Cōṟṟuttuṟai, possessing the capacity to do it.

ignorant mind!
முத்தி ஆக ஒரு தவம் செய்திலை
you have not done even a little of penance to attain salvation.
அத்தியால் அடியார்க்கு ஒன்று அளித்திலை
you have not given to Civaṉ's devotees anything with love.
தொத்து நின்று அலர் சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே பத்தியாய்ப் பணி செய்
Do service at least hereafter with piety only to Civaṉ in Cōṟṟutuṟai where in the gardens bunches of flowers blossom in all seasons.

ஒட்டி நின்ற உடல் உறு நோய் கட்டி நின்ற வினை கழிந்து அவை போய் அற
the diseases that are united with the body and the Karmams that bind the soul to leave you and become destroyed.
தொட்டு நின்றும் அச் சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே பட்டியாய்ப் பணி செய்
do service as an iredeemable slave to that famous Civaṉ in Cōṟṟuttuṟai touching his feet by your mind. (thinking of his feet in your mind).

ஆதியான்
the primordial Civaṉ.
அண்டவாணர்க்கு அருள் நல்குந்தியான் என்றும்
praising him as having the nature of bestowing his grace to those who live in heaven.
நின் மலனே
the spotless god.
சோதியான் என்றும்
and as the effulgent light.
சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே வாதியாய்ப் பணி செய்
do service only to Civaṉ in Cōṟṟuttuṟai without indulging in fruitless discussions.

ஆட்டினாய்
saying that you tossed me hither and thither.
வினை ஆயின ஓட்டினாய்
you drove all my Karmams,.
ஒரு காதில் இலங்கு வெண் தோட்டினாய் என்று
and you wear a white woman's ear-ring on one ear.
சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே நீட்டி நீ பணி செய்
do service to Civaṉ only in Cōṟṟuttuṟai saying his famous acts at length.

பொங்கி நின்று எழுந்த கடல் நஞ்சினைப் பங்கி உண்டது ஓர் தெய்வம் உண்டோ? சொலாய்
Tell me; is there any deity that consumed the poison that rose angrily in the ocean snatching it from the ocean.
[[பங்கி is the curruption of பருங்கி;
பல் பல இருங்கனி பருங்கி மிக உண்டவை (campantar, tirukkāḷatti, tiruvirākam 3);
பாதிரி சந்து அகிலினொடு கேதகையும் பருங்கி (cuntarar, Kalayanallūr, 7)]]
தொங்கி நீ என்றும் சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்குத் தங்கி நீ பணி செய்
do service to sticking to the right path, being submissive always to Civaṉ in Cōṟṟuttuṟai.

ignorant mind!
ஏணி போல் இழிந்து ஏறியும் ஏங்கியும்
Though you suffer like the ladder which is helpful to climb up and descend down, being stationery in a place.
நீ ஆணி போல ஆற்றவலியை காண் ஆயினும்
and Though you are very strong as an iron nail.
தோணி ஆகிய சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே என்றும் பூணியாய்ப் பணி செய்
you do service working like a bull always to Civaṉ in Cōṟṟuttuṟai who is like a boat to tranship people from the ocean of birth,

cf. துன்பக் கடலிடைத் தோணித் தொழில் பூண்டு தொண்டர் தமை, இன்பக்கரை முகந்து ஏற்றும் திறத்தன (appar, tiruvaiyāṟu, tiruviruttam, (3) 6).]]

பெற்றம் ஏறில் என்
what does it matter if Civaṉ rides on a bull?
பேய் படை ஆகில் என்
what does it matter if pēy is his army
புற்றில் ஆடு அரவு அதுவே பூணில் என்
what does it matter if he wears as ornaments dancing cobras that live in ant-hills? (Do not think these as low things not befitting his greatness.)
நீ சுற்றி என்றும் சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே பற்றி நீ பணி செய்
you do service only to Civaṉ in Cōṟṟuttuṟai being stead-fast in your devotion by going round him from left to right.

அல்லியான்
Piramaṉ who is seated in the inner petals of the lotus flower.
ஐந்தலை அரவு நாக அணைப் பள்ளியான்
and Māl who has the cobra with five hoods as his bed.
நீ அறியாத பரிசு எலாம் சொல்லி
you say his nature which they could not know.
என்றும் சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே புல்லி நீ பணி செய்
do service always only to Civaṉ in Cōṟṟuttuṟai in a suitable manner.

மிண்டரோடு விரவியும்
mixing with ignorant strong people.
வீறு இலாக்குண்டர் தம்மைக் கழிந்து உய்யப் போந்து
coming to Civaṉ slipping away from the low amaṇar who do not possess any distinctive excellence.
நீ தொண்டு செய்து என்றும் சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே உண்டு; பணி செய்
eating to do service to Civaṉ only in Cōṟṟuttuṟai, you do service to him always.

வாழ்ந்தவன் வலி வாள் அரக்கன் தனை ஆழ்ந்து போய் அலற(வ்) விரல் ஊன்றினான்
Civaṉ fixed his toe to make the arakkaṉ who lived to be praised by the world, and who was very strong and had a sword, to roar by sinking very low under (the mountain) (அலற(வ்) : வ் is augmentation for metre)
பாரிடம் சூழ்ந்த சோற்றுத்துறையர்க்கே தாழ்ந்து நீ பணி செய்
you do service only to Civaṉ in cōṟṟuttuṟai; surrounded by pūtams, being submissive to him in thought, word and deed. (ஊன்றினான் put in apposition with துறையர்க்கு)
