Civaṉ in Aiyāṟu adorns with a cobra whose mouth is as red as the evening sky, holding a trident of three sharp blades.
வந்து சிந்தை வாய்தல் உளான்
having condescended to be near remains at the entrance of the minds of devotees.
சீரியன்
has eminence.
பொந்து வார் புலால் வெண்தலைக் கையினன்
has in his hand a long white skull which has holes for eyes, and mouth.

பால் மதி பாகம் மாலை மகிழ்ந்தனர்
Having adorned the catai with a crescent as white as milk, rejoiced in having as a half Māl.
1. போக
in order to remove the fear of the tevār
ஆனையின் ஈர் உரி போர்த்தவர்
covered himself with the skin of an elephant wet with blood.
கோகு (அம்) மாலை குலாயது ஓர் கொன்றையும் ஆக
the koṉṟai garland round in shape being on the shoulders
ஆன் நெய் அஞ்சு ஆடும் ஐயாறர்
is Civaṉ in aiyāṟu who bathes in the five products of the cow, beginning from ghee.

Civaṉ who dwells in aiyāṟu!
நெஞ்சம் என்னும் நீள் கயம் தன்னுளே
in the deep tank which is my mind.
வஞ்சம் என்பது ஓர் வான் சுழிப்பட்டு
being caught in the big whirlpool of fraud from which I cannot escape
துஞ்சம் போதும்
even at that time of death when I lose all my consciousness
நின் நாமத்து எழுத்து அஞ்சும் தோன்ற அருளும்
Bestow on me your grace so that I can invoke the five letters which are your name.

Civaṉ in aiyāṟu
நினைக்கும் நெஞ்சின் உள்ளார்
is in the mind capable of thinking him
நெடுமாமதில் அளைத்தும் ஒள்ளழல் வாய் எரி ஊட்டினார்
-set fire to, so that the bright fire might consume all the high and big walls of enclosure (of the three cities)
பனைக்கை வேழத்து உரி உடல் போர்த்தவர்
covered his body with the skin of an elephant whose trunk is comparable to the palmyra tree.
அனைத்து வாய்தல் உள்ளாரும்
is also the person who pervades all things both animate and inanimate.

பரியர் நுண்ணியர்
is the bulky thing as well as the minute thing.
பார்த்தற்கு அரியவர்
is difficult to be known by the souls' intelligence, it being defective
அன்றியும்
in addition to that,
அரிய பாடலர் ஆடலர்
has rare songs and dances
கரிய கண்டத்தர்
has a black neck.
காட்சி பிறர்க்கு எல்லாம் அரியர்; தொண்டர்க்கு எளியர்
To have a vision of him is difficult for others, but easy for his devotees.

Civaṉ in aiyāṟu
புலரும் போதும்
at daybreak
பட்ட பொற்சுடர் 1. இலாப் போதும்
and at night when the sun, which set, does not shine.
சிலர் மலரும் போது களால் பணிய
when some people worship him with blossomed flowers.
இலரும்
those who are incapable of worshipping in this manner.
போதும் இலாததும்
worship with leaves which are not flowers.
அலரும் போதும் அணியும்
adorns himself with them like the blossomed flowers and buds.

1. மங்கை காதன்மை செய்தவர்
bestowed his love on (this lady of distinction)
பங்கு அம் மாலைக் குழலி
has on a half a lady who has tresses of hair wearing garlands.
ஓர் பால் நிறக் கங்கை மாலையர்
has a garland of Kaṅkai of white colour like milk.
மாலை மதியமும் கண்ணியும் அங்க மாலையும் சூடும் ஐயாறர்
Civaṉ in aiyāṟu who wears the crescent that rises in the evening, and garland of bones.

முன் நை ஆறு முயன்று எழுவீர் எலாம்
all of you who persevered in the path which brings sufferings in former times!
பின் நை ஆறு பிரி எனும் பேதைகாள்
oh ignorant people! who pray to god separate me from the path of sufferings!
மன் ஐயாறு மருவிய மாதவன் தன்னை ஆறு தொழத்தவம் ஆகும்
it will be equal to penance if you worship the great ascetic who is aiyāṟu which is permanent, in the proper way.

ஆன் ஐ ஆறு என ஆடுகின்றான் முடிவான் ஐ ஆறு வளாயது காண்மினோ
see the head of Civaṉ who bathes in the five products of the cow which are poured like a river, surrounded by the beautiful river in heaven!
நான் ஐயாறு புக் கேற்கு அவன் இன்னருள் தேன் (ஐ) ஆறு திறந்தாலே ஒக்கும்
His sweet grace is like the river of honey whose flood gate was opened to me who entered into aiyāṟu (ஐ : here is expletive)

Civaṉ in aiyāṟu
அரக்கின் மேனியன்
has a body as red as lac
அம் தளிர் மேனியன்
has a body like the beautiful tender leaves
அரக்கின் சேவடியாள் அஞ்ச
when the lady with red feet like lac feared.
அஞ்சல்' என்று
saying, Do not fear.
அரக்கன் ஈரைந்து வாயும் அலற அடியால் (உம்) அரக்கினான்
pressed down the arakkaṉ to roar with all the ten mouths.
