முந்தி எயில் எய்த முதல்வனார்
Civaṉ, the first cause who destroyed the three forts by shooting an arrow, long ago.
சிந்திப்பார் வினை தீர்த்திடுந் செல்வனார்
-the Lord who completely destroys the acts of those who meditate on him.
அந்திக் கோன் தனக்கே அருள் செய்தவர் பந்திச் செஞ்சடைப் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the deity in pācūr who has a red caṭai bound and who granted his grace to the moon that rules in the evening.

மடந்தை பாகம் மகிழ்ந்த மணாளர்
the bridegroom who rejoiced in having a lady on one half.
தொடர்ந்த வல்வினை போக்கிடும் சோதியார்
the divine light that removes the irresistible acts which follow the soul in every birth.
கடந்த காலனைக் கால்கொடு பாய்ந்தவர்
pounced on the god of death who was victorious formerly, with his
படர்ந்த நாகத்தார் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr wears a cobra that spreads its hood.

நாறு கொன்றையும் நாகமும் திங்களும் ஆறும் செஞ்சடை வைத்த அழகனார்
the beautiful god who placed on his red caṭai fragrant koṉṟai, a cobra, a crescent and a river.
காறு கண்டத்தவர்
has a blackened neck.
கையது ஓர் சூலத்தார்
holds a trident in his hand.
பாறின் ஓட்டினர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr has a ruined skull.

வெற்றியூர் உறை வேதியர் ஆவர்
Civaṉ is the brahmin who dwells in veṟṟiyūr (veṟṟiyūr has no tevaram for it; but is mentioned in tevarams of other shines; it is called in tamiḻ vaipputtalam).
நல் ஒற்றி ஏறு உகந்து ஏறும் ஒருவனார்
the unequalled God who rides with joy on a bull that has no equal.
நெற்றிக் கண்ணினர்
has a frontal eye.
நீள் அரவம் தனைப்பற்றி ஆட்டுவர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr will make a cobra to dance catching hold of it.

மட்டு அவிழ்ந்த மலர் நெடுங்கண்ணிபால் இட்ட வேட்கையர் ஆகி இருப்பவர்
has love placed on Umai who has long eyes like the flower from which honey drips.
துட்டரேல் இவர் சூழ்ச்சியை அறியேன்
if he is a mischievous person I did not know before hand the thought in his mind.
பட்டம் நெற்றியர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr wears on his forehead a plate of gold.

பல் இல் ஓடுகை ஏந்திப் பகல் எலாம்
holding a skull without teeth, during the whole of the daytime.
எல்லி நின்று இடுபெய் பலி ஏற்பவர்
receives the alms that is placed in his skull standing in one place in the hot part of the day.
பல்கு நீற்றினர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr smears sacred ash sumptuously.
சொல்லிப் போய்ப் புகும் ஊர் அறியேன்
I do not know the place where he stays, having gone, telling me about it.

கட்டி விட்ட சடையர் கபாலியர்
Civaṉ has a caṭai which he has tied and bundled up; has a skull.
எட்டி நோக்கி வந்து இல்புகுந்து (வ்) அவர்
who entered into the house coming peeping into it
[[புகுந்தவ் அவர் the underlined letter is augmentation for rhythm]]
இட்டமா இவர் செய்வன அறியேன்
I do not know what he does according to his desire.

வேதம் ஓதி வந்து இல்புகுந்தார் அவர்
Civaṉ entered into the house chanting the vētams.
காதில் வெண் குழை வைத்த கபாலியார்
who holds a skull and wore on the ear a white men's ear-ring.
நீதி ஒன்று அறியார்
does not know right conduct
நிறை கொண்டனர்
took away complete self control of my mind.
பாதி வெண்பிறைப் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr who wears a crescent which is half the size of the full moon.

சாம்பல் பூசுவர்
will smear sacred ash.
தாழ் சடை கட்டுவர்
will tie up caṭai hanging low.
ஓம்பல் (1) மூது எருது ஏறும் ஒருவனார்
the unequalled god who rides an aged bull which can carry him.

these two words have become முத்தெருது;
சில முத்தெருத்தர் பதினொடு தேவரே;
முடம் செய்தே அவர் முத்தெடுத்து எற்றியே;

தேம்பல் வெண்மதி சூடுவர்
will wear on his head a waning crescent.
தீயது ஓர் பாம்பும் ஆட்டுவர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr will cause to dance even a cruel cobra. (this fact is mentioned in the 4th verse also)

மாலினொடு மறையவன் தானும் ஆய் மேலும் கீழும் அளப்பு அரிதாயவர்
Civaṉ could not be measured in the upper region and in the lower region, though Piramaṉ combined with Māl.
ஆலின் நீழல் அறம் பகர்ந்தார்
gave moral instruction under the shade of the banyan tree.
மிகப் பால் வெண் நீற்றினர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr who smears himself with white sacred ash which is very white like milk.

திரிய மூ எயில் செங்கணை ஒன்றினால் எரிய எய்தனரேனும்
though Civaṉ shot a straight arrow to burn the three forts which were wandering.
இலங்கைக் கோன் நெரிய ஊன்றியிட்டார் விரல் நன்றினால்
placed firmly a toe to crush the King of ilaṅkai.
பரியர் நுண்ணியர் பாசூர் அடிகளே
the god in pācūr is the biggest as well as the smallest things.
