ஒளி மதி பாம்பினை ஒற்றி ஊரும்
the crescent which is brilliant crawls coming into close contact with the cobra.
அப்பாம்பும் அதனையே ஒற்றி ஊரும்
the cobra too will crawl coming into close contact with that crescent itself.
ஒற்றி ஊர ஒரு சடை வைத்தவன் ஒற்றியூர் தொழ நம்வினை ஓயுமே
our acts, good and bad will come to an end if we worship with joined hands oṟṟiyūr of Civaṉ who placed both the crescent and the cobra to come into close contact with each other on a single caṭai.

the Lord in oṟṟiyūr!
மலையான் மகள் வாட்டம் ஒன்று உரைக்கும்
the daughter of the mountain, Umai, will tell Civaṉ about her our distress.
ஈட்டவே இருள் ஆடி
dancing at night when the hosts of pēy gather together.
இடு பிணக்காட்டில் ஓரி கடிக்க 1. எடுத்தது ஓர் ஓட்டை வெண் தலைக்கை
the Lord in oṟṟiyūr has in his hand a white skull which has holes, which the old fox bit, in the burial ground where corpses are left

(People of this world!) guard carefully yourselves against the punishment of the god of death.
ஆற்றுத் தண்டத்து அடக்கும் அரன் அடி நீற்றுத் தண்டத்தராய் நினைவார்க்கு எலாம்
for those who meditate smearing the sacred ash and making obeisance by prostrating at the feet of araṉ who contains in him all things in the righteous way.
ஊற்றுத் தண்டு ஒப்பர் (போல்) ஒற்றியூரரே
the Lord in oṟṟiyūr is like the staff one uses in slippery ground. (போல்: expletive)

மற்றை ஊர்கள் எல்லாம் பலிதேர்ந்து போய் ஒற்றியூர் புக்கு உறையும் ஒருவரே
the unequalled Civaṉ who dwells in oṟṟiyūr entering into it, having collected alms in all other places.
சுற்றும் பேய் சுழலச் சுடுகாட்டு எரிபற்றி ஆடுவர்
will dance holding fire in the cremation ground, when the pēys whirl all round him.
பாய் புலித் தோலினர்
has the skin of the tiger which can pounce upon its prey (பாய்புலி : is a generic epithet).

மற்றையாரொடு வானவரும் தொழ
to be worshipped by the celestials also with others.
ஒற்றியூர் உறைவான் ஓர்கபாலியே
Civaṉ who has a skull in his hand and who dwells in oṟṟiyūr.
புற்றில் வாள் அரவு ஆட்டி
causing the shining cobra that lives in the anthill.
உமையொடு பெற்றம் ஏறு உகந்து ஏறும் பெருமையான்
has the greatness of riding with joy on a bull that belongs to the bovine species, with Umai.

prostrating before Civaṉ at every time of worship.
புது மலர் கொண்டு
with fresh flowers.
நீர் மாது தாழ் சடை வைத்த மணாளனார்
the bridegroom who placed a lady who is in the form of water on the caṭai hanging low.
திரு ஒற்றியூர் ஓது வேதியனார் பாதம் ஏத்தப் பறையும் நம் பாவமே
our sins will vaish if we worship the feet of the Lord in tiruvoṟṟiyūr who is praised as the god who expounded the vētams.

நெஞ்சமே
my mind!
அன்னங்கள் பலவும் பல் மலர் மேல் துஞ்சும்
many swans sleep on the many (lotus) flowers.
கலவ மஞ்ஞைகள் காரென வெள்குறும்
the peacocks with tails mistake the gardens as cloud and then feel shy knowing that they are not clouds;

approach the feet of Civaṉ who is eternal in tiru oṟṟiyūr surrounded by green gardens where the swans and peacocks are moving.

it is one bull that he rode with joy.
ஒன்று உதைத்துக் களைந்தது (போலும்)
it is the god of death that he kicked and removed.
ஒன்று ஒளி மதி சூடிற்று (போல்)
he wore one bright crescent.
ஒன்று உகந்தார் (போல்) ஒற்றியூரரே
the Lord in oṟṟiyūr rejoiced to dwell with desire in oṟṟiyūr as the unequalled shrine.

Civaṉ has an army of putams.
வேதத்தர்
revealed the vetams.
கீதத்தர்
sings many songs.
சடை கொள் வெள்ளத்தர்
has flood of Kaṅkai in his caṭai.
சாந்த வெண்ணீற்றினர்
has white sacred ash which he smears like sandal-paste.
உடையும் தோல் உகந்தார் உறை ஒற்றியூர் அடையும் உள்ளத்தவர் வினை அல்குமே
the acts of those who have the mind to reach oṟṟiyūr where Civaṉ who felt joy in having a dress of a skin, will become weak.

the dwelling place of Civaṉ who destroyed the strength like the mountain of the King of (ilaṅkai) who had shoulders as high as mountains
திரையினார் புடைசூழ் திருவொற்றியூர்
is tiruvoṟṟiyūr surrounded on all sides by waves of the sea.
உரையினால் பொலிந்தார் உயர்ந்தார்களே
those who praise highly about oṟṟiyūr flourish and are great men.
