கரைந்து கை தொழுவாரையும் காதலன்
Civaṉ loves those who worship him with folded hands, their hearts melting

வரைந்து
denying his existence
வைது ஏழுவாரையும் வாடலன்
he does not cause the heterodox religionists who wake up from sleep abusing him, to grieve.
நிரந்த 1. பாரிடத்தோடு அவர் நித்தலும் விரைந்து போவது வீழி மிழலைக்கே
he goes hurriedly daily along with the pūtams which accompany him in rows, to viḻimiḻalai to grant his grace to his devotees.

ஏற்று வெல்கொடி ஈசன்
Civaṉ who has a flag of a bull which is victorious.
தன் ஆதிரை
during the festival of ārtirai
நீற்றுச் சந்தன வெள்ளை விரவலார்
will not smear himself with the white holy ash to which he is partial like the sandal paste.
வேற்றுக் கோலம் கொள் வீழி மிழலை
in vīḻimiḻalai where he takes different forms.
நாற்றம் சூடுவர்
will adorn his head with fragrant flowers
நல் நறும் திங்களார்
will wear a very good crescent

புனை பொற்சூலத்தன்
Civaṉ has an adorned trident made of gold.
போர் விடை ஊர்தியான்
rides on a bull which can give battle.
வினை வெல் நாகத்தன்
adorns himself with cobras and is naturally free from Karmam
வெண் மழுவாளினான்
has a battle-axe which is sharp.
வினை இலார் தொழும் வீழிமிழலை
vīḻimiḻalai is the place worshipped by persons free from Karmam.

மாடத்து ஆடும் மனத்து உடன் வைத்தவர்
Māl who placed civa in the vimāṉam and his heart simultaneously.
கோடத்தார்
and Piramaṉ who chants aloud the vētam (கோடம்-கோஷம்)
குருக்கேத்திரத்தார் பலர்
many people belonging to kurukkettiram.
பாடத்தார்
brahmins who preserve the text of the vētams.
பழிப்பார் 1. பழிப்பு அல்லது ஓர் வேடத்தார்
who has a form without blemish by people who despise him.
தொழும் வீழிமிழலை
viḻimiḻalai is the place worshipped by the above-mentioned persons.

எடுத்த வெல் கொடி ஏறு உடையான் தமர்
the devotees of Civaṉ who has the flag of a victorious bull held acloft.
கோவணம் உடுப்பர்
will have loin-cloth only as their dress
பிச்சையே உண்பது
it is only alms which is their food.
கெடுப்பது ஆவது 1. கீழ் நின்ற வல்வினை
it is the irresistible Karmams that were done in previous births that they destroy.
வீழிமிழலைக்கே விடுத்துப் போவது
they go to vīḻimiḻalai having given up all wordly attachments.

குழலை யாழ் மொழியார் இசை வேட்கையால்
by the love placed on women who speak sweet words like the music of the flute and yāḻ.
உழலை யாக்கையை ஊணும் உணர்விலீர்
men who have no sense and therefore make the body that strays into bad ways, strong.
சாற்றினோம்
we proclaimed you many times to be known by many people
தழலை நீர் மடிக் கொள்ளன் மின்
do not carry the fire in the fold of the cloth. (மடி : fold in a cloth wrapped round the waist, answering for a poenet)
மிழலையான் அடிசார விண் ஆள்வரே
you can obtain the right to reign over heaven if you reach the feet of Civaṉ in miḻalai.

the valiant Civaṉ
தீத்திரளன்
holds a mass of fire in his hand (has a red body like the ball of fire)
சடைத்தங்கிய நீரன்
has water that stays in his caṭai
ஆடிய நீற்றன்
smears all over his body with holy ash.
வண்டார் கொன்றைத் 1. தாரன் மாலையன்
wears on the chest a garland of koṉṟai on which bees hum loudly; has a garland of the same flower
தண் நறுங்கண்ணியன்
wears a cool and fragrant chaplet of the same flower;
[[கண்ணி கார் நறுங்கொன்றை காமர், வண்ணமார்பில் தாரும் கொன்றை (puṟam, 1-1-2);
கார் விரி கொன்றைப் பொன் ஏர் புதுமலர்த், தாரன் மாலையன் மலைந்த கண்ணியன் (akam, invocatory verse, 11.1-2);
தாரன், மாலையன், மலைந்த கண்ணியன் என்றது, தார் ஓர் விசேடமாக இடுவது;மாலை அழகுக்கு இடுவது; கண்ணி போர்பூ; இனி தார் சேர்ப்பதாகவும், மாலை கட்டுவ தாகவும் கண்ணி தனித்துத் தொடுப்பதாகவும் இவ்வேறுபாடுகள் என உரைப்பாரும் உளர் (do. old gloss)]]
வீரன் வீழிமிழலை விகிர்தன்
the god different from the world who is in vīḻimiḻalai is a hero.

இறை ஆர் எரியினார்
Civaṉ holds fire in his hand.
இடுகாட்டிடை நரியினார்
dwells in the cremation ground which has foxes.
பரியா மகிழ்கின்றது ஓர் பெரியனார்
is a noble person who is always joyful without being distressed.
பிறப்போடு சாதலை விரியினார் தொழும் வீழிமிழலையே
viḻimiḻalai is the place worshipped by people who are afraid of birth and death.

நீண்ட சூழ் சடைமேல் ஓர் நிலாமதி
a bright crescent is on the long catai tied in coils round the head.
காண்டு சேவடி மேல் ஓர் கனைகழல்
on the red-lotus foot there is a Kaḻal that makes a sound within earshot
வேண்டுவார் அவர் வீதிபுகுந்திலர்
Civaṉ who is desired by us has not entered into our street.
வீழி மிழலைக்கே மீண்டும் போவது
is it right that Civaṉ returns to vīḻimiḻalai itself? (is this his grace?)

பாலை யாழொடு செவ்வழி பண்கொள மேலை வானவர் வந்து வழிபடும் (வீழிமிழலை)
the celestials come in the evening with their yāḻ and sing songs in the melody types of pālai and cevvaḻi
ஆலை ஆர் அழல் அந்தணர் ஆகுதி வேலையார் தொழும் வீழிமிழலை
in that evening the brahmins who perform the act of offering oblations in the consecrated fire in the hall and who worship vīḻimiḻalai, is the abode of Civaṉ.

மழலை ஏற்று மணாளன் திருமலை சுழல ஆர்த்து எடுத்தான் முடி தோள் இறக் கழல் கொள் கால் விரல் ஊன்றலும்
when Civaṉ pressed down the toe of the foot in which he wears a Kaḻal, to break the heads and shoulders of the arakkaṉ who lifted, roaring, the sacred mountain belonging to Civaṉ, the husband of Umai, and who has a tender bull, to cause it to whirl
மிழலையான் அடிவாழ்க என விட்டதே
when he cried, Let the feet of miḻaliyāṉ live long' he set him free without further punishment.
