{$} நெய்தற் குருகுதன் பிள்ளை என்று எண்ணி
the crane of the maritime tract mistaking to be its young one.
நெருங்கிச் சென்று
having gone near it.
கைதை மடற்புல்கு தென்கழிப்பாலையதன் உறைவாய்
you who reside in the beautiful Kaḻippālai where it embraces the petals of the fragrant screw-pine.
நம் இறையவனே
our Lord!
பைதற் பிறையொடு பாம்புடன்வைத்த பரிசு அறியோம்
we are unable to understand your idea of keeping the young crescent along with the serpent.
எய்தப் பெறின் இரங்காது
if one gets near the other it will not take pity on the other
[[if the crescent comes near the serpent goes near the crescent the serpent will swallow it without pity]]

{$} பருமாமணியும் பவளம் முத்தும் பரந்து உந்தி வரை பொருமால் கரைமேல் திரை கொணர்ந்து எற்றப் பொலிந்து இலங்கும் கழிப்பாலை
the Kaḻippālai which shines with splendour as the waves bring big precious stones, coral and pearls which are spread in them and which are pushed and dashed against the shore which is big like a mountain.
கருமாமிடநுடைக் கண்டன் எம்மான்
one who has a beautiful black neck, and is our Lord.
கழிப்பாலை எந்தை பெருமான்
our father and the great one in Kalippalai
இப்பெருநிலத்து அவன் என்னை ஆள் உடையான்
He has received me as his protege in this wide world.

{$} குளிர் ஆர்தடத்துத் தாட்பட்ட தாமரைப் பொய்கை அம்தன் கழ்ப்பாலை அண்ணற்கு
to the chief who is in cool and beautiful Kaḻippālai which has tank of lotuses which have stems growing in cool ponds.
நாட்பட்டு இருந்து இன்பம் எய்தலுற்று இங்கு
living for a long time and enjoying trivial pleasures.
நமண்தமரால் கோட்பட்டு ஒழிவதன் முந்துற
before we caught by the servant of the god of death and pass away.
வல்லமாய்
being capable (of becoming his protege).
இஅகல் இடத்தே ஆட்பட்டு ஒழிந்தம் அன்றே
we definitely become his protege.
