காலை எழுந்து
waking up early in the morning
கடிமலர் தூயனதாம் கொணர்ந்து
having brought pure and fragrant flowers.
மேலை அமரர் விரும்பும் இடம்
the shrine which is desired by the immortals in the upper world for worship.
விரையால் மலிந்த சோலை மணம் கமழ்
(Ōṟṟuttuṟai) where the gardens spread their fragrance as fragrant flowers are abundant.
சோற்றுத்துறை உறைவார் சடைமேல் மாலை மதியம் அன்றோ எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியதே
Is not the crescent that shines in the evening, beautiful on the caṭai of our god who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai.

வண்டு அணை கொன்றையும் வன்னியும் மத்தமும் வாரைவும் கொண்டு அணைந்து ஏறும் முடி உடையான்
Civaṉ has a holy head on which koṉṟai flowers which are approached by bees, leaves of indian mesquit, dhatura flowers and a killing cobra come near and thrive, as the place fit for them.
குரைசேர் கழற்கே தொண்டு அணைந்து ஆடிய சோற்றுத்துறை உறைவார் சடைமேல் வெண்தலை மாலை அன்றோ எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியதே
is not the garland of white skulls worn on the long caṭai of Civaṉ who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai where the devotees reach and dance, performing service and approaching the jingling armour of his feet.

அளக்கும் நெறியினன்
Civaṉ has a means by which he measures the piety of his devotees.
அன்பர்கள் தம் மனத்து ஆய்ந்து கொள்வான்
he will investigate into the minds of his devotees.
விளக்கும் அடியவர்மேல் வினை தீர்த்திடும் விண்ணவர் கோன்
is the chief of the celestials residing in heaven and completely destroys the accumulated karmams of previous birth and karmams accumulating in this birth yet to bear their fruit, of the devotees who explain the greatness of the feet of Civaṉ and themselves.
துளக்கும் குழை அணி சோற்றுத்துறை உறைவார் சடைமேல் திளைக்கும் மதியம் அன்றோ எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியதே
Is not the crescent that is always on the caṭai of Civaṉ without leaving it, who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai and wears a brilliant ear-ring, beautiful!

ஆய்ந்த கைவாள் அரவத்தொடு மால்விடைஏறி எங்கும் பேர்ந்தகை மான்நடம் ஆடுவர்
Civaṉ will dance with a deer held in the hand which swings everywhere, riding on a big bull with a lean and killing cobra.
பின்னு சடையிடையே சேர்ந்த கைம்மாமலர் துன்னிய சோற்றுத்துறை உறைவார் ஏந்து கைச் சூலம்மழு எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியதே
to Civaṉ on whose intertwining caṭai the flowers that were scattered by the hands of devotees get close together, and who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai, the trident and battle-axe the Lord holds in his hands, are beautiful.

கூற்றைக் கடந்ததும் கோள் அரவு ஆர்த்ததும் கோள் (1) உழுவை நீற்றில் துதைந்து திரியும் பரிசதும் நாம் அறியோம்
we do not know the manner in which the skin of the tiger capable of killing, being close to the holy ash and rolling on the body, destroying the god of death and tying a killing cobra.
ஆற்றில் கிடந்து அங்கு அலைப்ப அலைப்புண்டு அசைந்தது ஒக்கும் சோற்றுத் துறை உறைவார் சடைமேலது ஓர் தூமதியே
the spotless crescent which is on the caṭai of the Lord who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai appears like moving here and there, being tossed as the waves in the river (Kaṅkai) in which it is lying, toss it.

வல்லாடி நின்று வலிபேசுவார் கோளர் வல் அசுரர்
the strong acurar will play rude pranks and speak arrogant words and are capable of killing.
கொல்லாடி நின்று குமைக்கிலும்
though they commit murders and give annoyance.
வானவர் வந்து இறைஞ்சச் சொல்லாடி நின்று பயில்கின்ற சோற்றுவத்துறை உறைவார் வில்லாடி நின்ற நிலை எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியது
to our Lord, who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai, who freely converses with the celestials when they descend from heaven and worship him; the posture of his standing having made use of the bow, is beautiful.

ஆயம் உடையது நாம் அறியோம்
we do not know his owning a big army;
[[வெற்பர் ஆயம் ஓடி (periya purāṇam. kaṇṇappa nāyaṉār.77)]]
அரணத்தவரைக் காயக்கணை சிலை வாங்கியும் எய்தும் துயக்கு அறுத்தான்
Civaṉ put an end to the distraction of the acurar who had three forts by bending the bow and discharging an arrow from it, to destroy them.
தூயவெண்ணீற்றினன்
who besmears with pure white holy ash.
சோற்றுத்துறை உறைவார் சடைமேல் பாயும் வெண்ணீர்த் (1) திரைக் கங்கை எம்மானுக்கு அழகியது
the Kaṅkai of waves and white coloured water rushing down on the caṭai of our master who dwells in Ōṟṟuttuṟai is beautiful.

அண்டர் அமரர் கடைந்து எழுந்து ஓடிய (1) நஞ்சு அதனை உண்டும்
consuming the poison which ran rising from the ocean when the enemies of the immortals (acurar) and the immortals churned the ocean.

This is a corrupt form of the word அண்டார் in which the long vowels has been shortened to suit the rhyme;
கால்வல்புரவி அண்டர் ஓட்டி (Patiṟṟuppattu, 88-9);
உயர்நிலை உம்பர் ஒன்னல ருடனே, இடையர் அண்டர் என்னலாகும் (piṅkalam, 3055);
ஓடிய நஞ்சு:
முன்னும் கடுவிடம்-பரந்து செல்லும் கடியவிடம் Kōvaiyār; 236);
``The poison which made those who churned the ocean to flee by its severity'' is another [possible] meaning]]
அதனை ஒடுக்கவல்லான்
Civaṉ who was capable of subduing its severity.
மிக்க உம்பர்கள் கோன் தொண்டு பயில்கின்ற சோற்றுத்துறை உறைவார் சடைமேல் இண்டை மதியம் அனறோ எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியதே
Are not the circlet of flowers and the crescent which are on the caṭai of our Lord who is in Ōṟṟuttuṟai where (Intiraṉ) the king of the countless celestials beings practises service to god.
[[இண்டை மதியம் the crescent which resembles the circlet of flowers is another meaning;
இந்திரன் வனத்து மல்லிகை மலரின் இண்டை சாத்தியதென நிறைந்த சந்திரன் முடிமேல் வந்துறும் சோன சைலனே கைலை நாயகனே (oṇacailamālai, 57);
இண்டை மதியம் : may be taken either as an elliptical compound in which the conjuction part உம் is understood (இண்டையும், மதியமும்) or as an elliptical compound in which the sign of comparison is understood (இண்டை போன்ற மதியம்)]]

கடல் மணி வண்ணன் கருதிய நான் முகன் தான் 1. அறியாவிடம் அணிகண்டம் உடையவன்
Civaṉ who has a neck made beautiful by the poison and who could not be found by Māl whose colour is that of the sea and sapphire, and by Piramaṉ who thought that he could easily find out the head.

எனை ஆள்உடையான்
who accepted me as his servant.
சுடர் அணிந்து ஆடிய சோற்றுத்துறை உறை வார் சடைமேல் படம் அணி நாகம் அன்றோ எம்பிரானுக்கு அழகியது
Does not the cobra which is beautiful by its hood and which stays in the caṭai of Civaṉ who dwells in ōṟṟuttuṟai where the suns rays fall on the linkam, and our master, appear beautiful?

இலங்கைக்கு இறைவன் இருபதுதோளும் முடி(உம்) நெரியக் கலங்க
the twenty shoulders and ten heads of the king of ilaṅkai to be crushed and he himself to become confused in mind.
விரலினுல் ஊன்றி அவனைக்கருத்து ஒழித்த துலங்கல் மழுவினன்
ivaṉ with a glittering battle-axe who destroyed his pride by fixing firmly the toe.
சோற்றுத்துறைவார் சடைமேல் இலங்கு மதியம் அன்றோ எம்பிரானுனக்கு அழகியதே
Does not the bright crescent on the caṭai of the Civaṉ who dwells in ōṟṟuttuṟai and who is our Lord, appear beautiful?
