தையலார் தம் மானம் காப்பது ஆகி
to preserve the chastity of women.
வலையுள் ஆழ்ந்து
sinking low into their tricks.
அம்மானை, அமுதன் தன்னை, ஆதியை
Civaṉ, who is the father, the nectar, the cause of all things.
அந்தம் ஆய செம்மான ஒளிகொள் மேனிச் சிந்தையுள் ஒன்றி நின்ற எம்மானை
and our Lord, who is united with my mind and who has a beautiful body which has the colour of the evening red sky.
நினைய மாட்டேன்
I am incapable of meditating on him.

மக்களே, மணந்த (1) தாரம் அவ்வயிற்றவரை ஓம்பும் சிக்குளே அழுந்தி
sunk in the entanglement of protecting wedded wife, children born and their children.
ஈசன் (2) திறம்படேன்
I do not have any connection with the path of Civaṉ.
தவம் அது ஓரேன்
I do not consider attentively doing penance.
கொப்புளே போலத்தோன்றி
appearing like bubbles in the water.
அதனுளே மறையக்கண்டும்
even after seeing that bubble to vanish into that;

கூழையேன் ஆகமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of doing the duties of a devotee;

கொடுவினைக்குழியில் வீழ்ந்து
falling into the pit of cruel acts.
ஏழின் இன்னிசையினாலும் இறைவனை ஏத்தமாட்டேன்
I will not praise, Civaṉ with sweet music having the seven diatonic scales.
மாழை ஒண் கண்ணில் நல்ல மடந்தைமார் தமக்கும் பொல்லேன்
I am ugly looking to the good-natured ladies who have bright and young eyes;

ஏழையேன் ஆகி நாளும்
being always an ignorant person.

என் முன்னைவினையினாலே
as I experience the fruits of my acts done in previous births.
நான் மூர்த்தியை நினையமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of meditating on Civaṉ who has a visible form.
பின்னைர்
after I realised my mistake of not worshipping Civaṉ and knew there is no other benefit in the birth.
பித்தனாகிப் பிதற்றுவன் பேதையேன் நான்
being attached to the feet of Civaṉ, I who am ignorant will babble incoherantly.
என்னுளே மன்னி நின்ற சீர்மையது ஆயினானை என்னுளே நினைய மாட்டேன்
I am incapable of meditating within myself internally on Civaṉ who has the eminence of remaining permanently within me.

பிறைநுதற் பேதைமாதர் பெய்வளையார்க்கும் (1) அல்லேன்
I am not in favour with women who wear bangles and have forehead like the crescent.
காமரம் கற்றுமில்லேன்
I have not learnt music (cf. verse of previous decade).
கறை அணி கண்டன் தன்னை, மறை நவில் நாவினானை மன்னி நின்று இறைஞ்சி நாளும் இறையேயும் ஏத்தமாட்டேன்
I am incapable of praising even for a while daily prostrating before Civaṉ remaining steadfast in my devotion, Civaṉ who adds beauty to the poison by keeping it in his neck and who is always practising chanting of the vētams.

ஐவர் கள்வர்
the five organs of sense which are like robbers.
வளைத்து நின்று
remaining surrounding me.
வந்து எனை நடுக்கம் செய்ய
draw near me and make me tremble.
தளைத்து வைத்து
trying the feet.
உலையை ஏற்றி
setting a pot of water on the fire for cooking rice.
தழல் எரி மடுத்த நீரில்
in the water which was heated by burning fire.
திளைத்து நின்று ஆடுகின்ற ஆமைபோல் தெளிவு இலாதேன்
I who have no clarity like the tortoise which bathes in the water without ceasing.
இளைத்து நின்று ஆடுகின்றேன்
I am enjoying this life, being exhausted.
