நெஞ்சினீரே
my mind!
மனைவி, தாய், தந்தை, மக்கள், மற்றுளசுற்றம் என்னும் வினையுளே விழுந்து அழுந்தி
sinking low having fallen into the bondage of wife, mother, father, children and other relations.
வேதணைக்கு இடம் ஆகாது
and without becoming room for the sufferings.
கனையும் மா கடல் சூழ் நாகை மன்னு காரோணத்தானை நினையுமாவல்லீராகில்
if you are capable of fixing your thoughts in the proper manner on Civaṉ in Karōṇam which is permanent in nākai surrounded by the big ocean which is roaring.

நெஞ்சே
my mind!
வையனை
Civaṉ who has a bull to ride on
வையம் உண்டமால் அங்கம் தோள் மேல்கொண்ட செய்யனை
the red coloured Civaṉ who bore on his shoulders the skeleton of Māl who swallowed the earth.
செய்ய போதில் திசை முகன் சிரம் ஒன்று ஏந்தும் கையனை
one who holds in his hand one of the heads of Piramaṉ who has four faces for each of the quarters and who resides in a red lotus flower.
கடல் சூழ் நாகைக் காரோணம் கோயில் கொண்ட ஐயனை நினைந்த நெஞ்சே
mind which thought of the father who had his temple in Nākaikkārōṇam surrounded by the sea.
அம்ம! நாம் உயர்ந்தவாறே
listen; what a wonder we saved ourselves!

நிருத்தனை
the dancer
நிமலன் தன்னை
god who is naturally free from all impurities
நீள் நிலம் விண்ணின் மிக்க விருத்தனை
the senior one who is superior to the residents of this wide world and heaven.
விளைபொருள் மூலமான கருத்தனை
one who is the author and origin of all things that are produced.
கடல் சூழ் நாகைக் காரோணம் கோயில் கொண்ட ஒருத்தனை
and the unequalled one who had his temple at nākaikkārōṇam surrounded by the sea.
நாம் உயர்ந்தவாறே
what a wonder yourself and myself were saved!

மண் தனை இரந்து கொண்டமாயனோடு அசுரர் வானோர் தெண்திரை கடையவந்த தீவிடம் தன்னை உண்ட கண்டனை
Civaṉ who has a neck in which he has stationed the cruel poison which rose when the ocean of clear waves was churned the acurar, celestials and māyaṉ (Māl) who begged and got the earth (from makāpali)
கடல் சூழ் நாகைக் காரோணம் கோயில் கொண்ட அண்டனை நினைந்த நெஞ்சே
my mind which fixed your thoughts on the god who dwelt in the temple in nākaikkārōṇam surrounded by the sea;
அம்ம! நாம் உய்ந்தவாறே
listens; what a wonder we saved ourselves.

நிறை புனல் அணிந்த சென்னி நீள் நிலா மதியம் சூடி
wearing a crescent of greaat moonlight on the head which has adorned itself with plenty of water.
மறை ஒலி பாடி
chanting the vētams with their proper accent
மயானத்து ஆடல் மகிழ்ந்த மைந்தன்
the youth who felt happy indancing in the cremation-ground.
கறை மலிகடல் சூழ் நாகைக் காரோணம் கோயில் கொண்ட இறைவனை நாளும் ஏத்த இடும்பை போய் இன்பம் ஆம்
if one praises daily the Lord who dwelt in the temple of nākaikkarōṇam surrounded by the very black sea, our sufferings will vanish and happiness will come.

வெம்பனைக்கருங்கையானை வெருவ அன்று உரிவை போர்த்த கம்பனை
the Lord in kacci ēkampam who covered himself with the skin of an elephant which is cruel and has a black trunk like the palmyra tree, to make it frightened.
காலற் காய்ந்த காலனை
who destroyed the god of death by kicking him with his leg.
ஞாலம் ஏத்தும் உம்பனை
the god whom the people of this world praise;

நாகைக் காரரோணம் மேய செம்பொனை நினைந்த நெஞ்சே
my mind which thought of the god who is like superior gold, and who dwell with desire in nākaikkārōṇam.
திண்ணம் நாம் உயர்ந்தவாறு
It is certain that we saved ourselves.

வெங்கடுங்கானத்து ஏழைதன்னொடும் வேடனாய்ச் சென்று
having gone into the fearful forest of severe heat with a lady, Umai, in the form of a hunter.
அங்கு அமர் மலைந்து
having fought with pārttaṉ.
பார்த்தற்கு அடுசரம் அருளினானை
who granted to him an arrow which can kill.
மங்கை மார் பாடல் ஓவா மன்னுகாரோணத்தானைக் கங்குலும் பகலும் காணப் பெற்று
having obtained vision of, both in the night and day, the Lord in kārōṇam where the music of young girls stay permanently without ceasing.
நாம் களித்தவாறு
what a wonder we felt happy.

தெற்றினர் புரங்கள் மூன்றும் தீயினில்விழ
to make the three cities of perverse enemies to be consumed by fire.
செற்ற வெஞ்சிலையார்
Civaṉ who destroyed with his cruel bow.
வஞ்சர் சிந்தையுள் சேர்வு இலாதார்
who does not enter into the minds of deceptive people.
கற்றவர் பயிலும் நாகைக் காரோணம் கருதி ஏத்தப் பெற்றவர்
those who have the good fortune to praise with intention nākaikkārōṇam where learned scholars are crowded.
பிறந்தார்
are really people who enjoy the benefit of being born as human beings.
மற்றுப் பிறந்தவர் பிறந்திலாரே
others who are born as human beings are to be considered as not being born so.

கருமலி கடல் சூழ் நாகைக் காரோணர் கமல பாதத்து ஒரு விரல் நுதிக்கு நில்லாது ஒண்திறல் அரக்கன் உக்கான்
the famous and strong arakkaṉ languished without the strength to stand the pressure of the tip of the single toe of the lotus feet of the Lord in nākaikkārōṇam surrounded by the dark black sea.
இருதிறமங்கைமாரோடு எம்பிரான் செம்பொன் ஆகம் திருவடி தரித்து நிற்க
when we stand carrying the feet of our Lord which bore on it the weight of two ladies and the body of superior gold of our Lord.
திண்ணணம் நாம் உய்ந்தவாறு
what a wonder it is certain that we saved ourselves!
